Great shade and fun course. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 25, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great shade on the front part of the course and lots of pledges to seek shade once you're out of the trees. Scenic view on the lake shore. Back half opens up. Great hole placement made it fun and challenging.

Cons:

Needs mowed at the moment. I would guess from the cut and the current heights of the fairways, it's probably on the schedule soon.

Great Course in NWA 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 28, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Northshore DGC sits very close to Lake Fayetteville and a few of the holes have a beautiful look at the lake.

The course has quite a bit of variety in it from playing through the trees on about half of the holes to being more open on the other half. Even the open holes have enough obstacles that it is not incredibly open. I believe it was hole 10 that threw from up on a hill and threw into a group of trees that guarded the basket. The wooded holes were all fair and a line was visible from the tee.

The signature hole with pine trees going down each side was one to remember. I happened to catch up to a group of locals on this hole that were just bombing it down there like they play it every day. It is a tight throw and you need to have a gentle S curve to get it the ~400' down the fairway

The course was in overall good condition. Most tees had tee signs. The baskets were in good condition. The concrete tee pads were adequate, and navigation was no issue at all and where it was a bit tricky, there were signs pointing you in the right direction.

Cons:

I played on a sub-freezing day and there were several groups out and about. I can only imagine when the weather is nice what the course looks like in terms of how many people are playing.

The course map listed here on DGCR is out of date. I am not sure when the course changed, but be aware.

I probably played the course at the perfect time of year. Though I could see the course being muddy near the lake when it rains or the lake overflows, and I could also see that the course could get overgrown especially on the more open holes during the growing season. I could also see the more wooded holes lose their fair lines with vegetation.

Other Thoughts:

I really had a fun time on this course. It was my first exposure to real courses in the Northwest Arkansas area, and I was happy to have played it.

It is not a super tough course, shooting >54 should be no problem for an intermediate level player, but it does have some challenge on a few of its holes. I would highly recommend playing this course to anyone in the area, just be wary of the course conditions based on the time of year and the amount of rain that has happened.

Open Course with Hazards 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 28, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Open Course to throw a few bombs
wooded holes for accuracy
Lake and ravines in play
get to practice all shots
wind makes course change

Cons:

easy to lose discs Holes 1-3, 5
lake comes into play on front 5 holes and deep brush and inlet
wind makes course very tough
Map needs updating as current map is not correct

Other Thoughts:

#1 on map is gone and #2 is starting hole
Will play again while in area, but requires all the shots, but fun and more open than most.
#6 is a tight drive thru trees, if you try and go over might be having to climb a tree to retrieve trees
#5 is a tight drive with deep brush on left and lake on right, requires accuracy, that I do not have

Best course in NWA 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 10, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Absolutely beautiful park. Holes are fun, challenging, and each one is different. This course has done what so many new courses are failing to do, and that is incorporate all parts of a good game. It has distance, technical shots, lefty and righty, back hand and flicks, some water and OB, and all the while the course is still a blast. Secluded and laid back but also family friendly.

Cons:

Definitely an issue with signs. Being a college town I imagine that the signs are constantly vandalized, but it still makes it tough to navigate if you aren't a local. It is by FAR the best course in North West Arkansas (no other course comes even close) so on a beautiful day there is very little parking and the course can get crowded. The bike/jogging trail runs right through some parts of the course and fairway so you have to be careful if you have a long throw because people can get hit.

Other Thoughts:

The things this course lack almost don't matter because of everything it does correct. Like I stated earlier, so many courses are one sided... either long or technical. This course did both beautifully.

Northshore DGC, Fayetteville AR 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 31, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Absolutely beautiful scenery, mowed fairways, a couple "death putts", its close to town. Lots of wooded shots balanced with plenty of long open drives.

Cons:

Small tee pads (imo), very tall grass off fairway (about 1.5 ft.) , maybe about 5 signs for the next basket on the entire course. Most tee signs are removed or missing. Absolutely no maps at all.

Other Thoughts:

-1 point for small tee pads. These are probably the smallest tee pads ive ever played and it was actually distracting. Theyre not level with the groud so you have to incorporate a step up with your run up. If your going to have smaller tee pads at least offer an alternate tee thats just dirt. They dont HAVE to be regulation butt at least give room for a run up. Sorry but it was literally a game changer.

-1 point for no maps and most of the signs missing. This is something i see way way way too much and I really should take 2 points for it. It's very frustrating and very tiresome when you're out on a course you've never been before and you have to walk up and down the fairway 18 times because there are no maps and no signs directing you which way to go or where the basket is. Honestly, its rude. In parks like this, the bikers get maps, the hikers get maps, theres maps and signs for jogging routes, theres even signs to the bathrooms... but good luck on a sign to the next basket.

Very well laid out! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 27, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Variety- wooded, open, long, short, straight, right to left, left to right. No two holes felt the same.

Good use of lake- pin locations on holes with water make you think twice about going for it... but of course you end up going for it because you didn't come to play for pars.

Most holes are fair and offer a line. The only ones that I didn't have a fair line were 1 and 12, but I didn't play with a local, so maybe one exists.

Benches- cool hand made benches on most holes for when you are playing behind an eight some (actually happened to me here.)

Poles with hooks for your bag to keep them off the muddy ground.

Simple navigation for the most part. I will say that the map on listed here is outdated though.

Cons:

Extremely muddy- If you are able to, wear boots and bring a towel. I can't overstate the importance of a towel on this course. Your discs will definitely get wet and muddy.

Signage- Some holes have a distance marked on them that seemed to be reasonably accurate, but no signs at all on 15-18. If the signs included a layout of the hole, that would help a lot for those new to the course. On 13, I thought I was safe in some brush and actually ended up in the lake. No idea that there was water near the basket. (I guess I could have looked at a map beforehand)

Other Thoughts:

Lots of great holes here, but a few stand out.

5- Short RHFH hole with the basket about 20 feet away from water.

6- have to hit a gap about 150 feet ahead and keep it straight for a basket behind a tree.

7- long straight fairway lined neatly with trees and growth on both sides.

10- short downhill throw with water about 30 feet past the basket.

13- short with a double mando forcing a left to right throw with water all around the basket... Could be one of the easier holes on the course, but somehow I ended up bogeying both times played. Don't let the distance trick you!

The mud and signs are really the only big cons out here. If you are able to count those two out, you will really enjoy this course! Definitely should play if you are in the area and even go out of your way if anywhere near!

Great course year round 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 20, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Beautiful scenery
-Great variety of shots
-Well marked tees and trail
-Awesome place to spend an afternoon

Cons:

-Muddy on holes close to the shore immediately following rain
-Very spread out (not a con if you have plenty of time, but definitely expect to spend over and hour to play all 18)
-Easy to lose discs if the vegetation is overgrown

Other Thoughts:

This course uses the landscape to its full potential, great shots near the lake and farther inland. Snakes stay away from the heavily traveled parts, but if you have to track a disc in the woods, I recommend making a little noise so you don't spook anything up. Overall a great course, worth playing again and again.

Cons:

It can be muddy and busy. Snakes!!

Northshore 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 5, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Best course in Arkansas! It is an easy course for even amateurs to do well on, but yet it can be challenging enough for even the more experienced disc golfers. Beautiful area, good equipment used. The rough isn't so unmanaged that you can't find your discs, and if you can keep your disc on the green, you'll be okay.

Cons:

The area that the course is built doesn't have a great drainage system but it's gotten much better. Some areas the brush could stand being cut down a bit.

Other Thoughts:

It is in the top two of the better courses in northwest Arkansas for a reason! Go play a round there and see what you think!

Awesome Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 8, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Concrete tee pads, nice Discatcher baskets, and well maintained. The course begins with a few technical lightly wooded shots by the lake, and then opens up to some long shots in the open, goes back to the lake and ends with a few open long holes again. The views while playing are incredible, and the course is very well designed. Many people have written reviews complaining of the mud, but after mulching, added rocks, drainage updates, etc., the mud is almost never a problem.

Cons:

This is a fairly flat course. Only real disadvantage to this course is that it can be pretty crowded on good days. There can be a lot of waiting to play through large groups, or getting stuck behind people who are new to the game.

Other Thoughts:

This course's combination of short and long, straight and curved, wooded and open shots helped me improve my disc golf skills more than any other course in my first year of play. I have seen it regularly maintained as I went regularly as a student at the University this past year. Definitely a recommended course.

One of the best around 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 4, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Right by the lake and the views are incredible
- Nice open and defined fairways on most holes
- Very nice Innova Discatcher pro baskets
- Concrete teepads in great condition
- Friendly locals who allow me to play through
- Ok tee signs have distances on most signs
- A few ace oppurtunities
- Lots of different challenges throughout the course (some wide open, very technical wooded shots, tunnel shots, etc.) Lots of variety and different forms of difficulty.
- Pretty easy to get to.
- Navigation is easy in the couse becasue there are lots of signs showing the direction of the next tee.

Cons:

- On a few holes, you may have to wait for pedestrians to move along before throwing such as hole 9 because there is a concrete walking trail that is always busy.
- Since this course is one of the best around, it is the busyest around. If you are under time constraints, this may not be the place to play. Most locals will let you play through but never in the 20+ times ive played this course have i ever been able to be finished in less than an hour.
- A few holes are easy to lose a disc in especially in the summertime where the vegitation is great.
- I wish there was a little bit of elevation
- Course doesnt drain well from rain at all. If youre going to play after rainfall, be prepared for a very muddy course.

Other Thoughts:

This is really a nice course. It has a nice mix of different types of holes and it is pretty challenging. The reason im giving this course a 4 is because it really is an all around great course and it is always fun to play. If you are in the area, you should play this course.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 23, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The course allows for a variety of different shots throughout, which makes for a great practice course.
Anything near the water is more technical, and usually pretty short to where only a Putter or Mid is required.
The open holes allow for some nice aired out D.
There are concrete teepads and the fairways are (somewhat regularly) maintained.
It's also a very FH friendly course, I FH off the tee on at least 15 of the holes.

Cons:

The course floods really easily, so if it's rained within the week, always bring a towel.
Also, some more elevation change would be nice, obviously the course doesn't have much, but possibly some basket placement on towers or such would make for an extra challenge on the open holes.

Other Thoughts:

Water isn't really too much of an issue, if discs go in, more times than not the water is clear enough to go in after.
People in the park are almost never an issue, except possibly on hole 16, but it's just a running path and people quickly fly through the area.

Good enough 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 26, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

The layout is fairly easy to navigate and they mix of holes is great. It seems every open holes is balanced by a more technical hole. The use of the land was impressive. Some of the holes along the lake provided an extra challenge since they were wooded and were conducive to losing discs in the water.

Cons:

The park, when even slightly wet, becomes completely swampy and flooded. some of the tees, like hole 5 and 2, were difficult to access without getting soaked shoes. some of the open shots are a bit redundant, since half of the course revolves around one large-ish field.

Other Thoughts:

I enjoyed by quick round here. I was suprised by this course. When I drove up it didn't look very promising but as I found my way through it was more and more enjoyable. hole 7 was beautiful (i birdied it too), among others. Overall, It's not the best course I've seen, but if you are in the area, it doesn't hurt to stop by and play a round.

Basket on 16 broken - doesn't sit straight/even.

Other Thoughts:

Excellent mix of technical/wooded shots and open "bomb" holes. Even the open holes utilized trees to add some challenge (basket behind at varying distances/ slightly in the woods). Very visually appealing course with the lake directly behind several baskets (far enough not to be a "disc vaccum"). Surprisingly, the wind was basically calm even though it is a lake course. Pretty busy with other activities (biking, dogs, jogging) on a Sunday morning but the other people were very courteous for the most part and didnt disrupt the round. Loved hole 7 - the longer "tunnel" shot! Would definately recommend this course.
