Perfect place for a fun DG course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 25, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

* Pretty little 9 hole course, one of the only courses in a 20 mile area.
* Located in a very family friendly public lake and park system
* Always kept clean and well maintained
* very easy to follow the the course, as it is a smaller layout and very beginner-friendly
* A couple of holes actually use the elevation at-hand to give a sense of greater difficulty
* Local park ranger (Jason) is very friendly, and loves to see disc golfers out there playing. He'll approach any group and be sincerely happy to see you playing. Jason was a key figure to getting the course set up.
* Nice baskets, signage, and concrete teepads for every hole.
* Mailbox next to tee #1 contains free pencils and scorecards
* Once you are done playing, you can go boating, fishing, hiking, camping, picnicking, swimming etc etc. Great place to spend the weekend.

Cons:

* Teepads are a bit small for most folks, don't expect a huge run-up on all holes.
* Since this is bordering picnic areas, you may have plenty of park-goers "interferring" on hole #1, always be courteous and give anyone a heads-up prior to throwing.
* The large parking lot is not for public use (unless you reserve it). You must park down by the boat ramp, or around the circle. If you park in the circle it's actually pretty convenient to get to several holes.
* There is a small fee, per car ($3 I think), to get into the park. That's just the way it is, and be happy to have nice facilities and a fun DG course to boot.

Other Thoughts:

All of the underbrush by hole #2 was cut out, so no more getting cut by thorns. There is a no alcohol policy on this course, and they absolutely mean it. A lot of work and effort went into getting this course put in, so please don't be selfish and respect the grounds rules. All it takes it for a group to be selfish and give the local community a bad name.

The most scenic hole is #1, beautiful "valley" shot. The wind can absolutely be a factor on this course on any given day, as the lake funnels the wind through the park. While every hole "is a bird", getting -3 or -4 on a very windy day is impressive.

Here's my suggestion to what you should expect at a particular skill level, on an ideal day;

27 (0) Novice
25 (-2) Intermediate
23 (-4) Advanced
21 (-6) Pro

Bogies are most easily attained by going out of bounds (on, or across the road), or by hitting an early tree on some holes, or rolling down the hill on #9. OB really only comes into play on holes 4, 6, and 9.

Course Record (as far as I know), is 19 (-8).

Here is how I would handicap the holes (I have TD'd out there more than anyone else as of Nov 2014).

Hole/Handicap

1/6
2/7
3/8
4/5
5/4
6/3
7/2
8/9
9/1

It's a fun course, great for a 27 hole "marathon". Closest courses to Oologah DG course are Claremore Lake (9 holes), and Centennial (Owasso, OK). Thanks for reading.

Well balanced 9 hole campground course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 3, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course has a good mix of short and moderate length holes. This is a good park style course that is very beginner friendly.
The tee pads are very nice and long, the baskets are new DGA's and catch wonderfully.
The flow is very logical and the course plays quickly. Good use of a nice piece of land that was otherwise unused.
Good elevation especially on holes 1 and 9.
Signage is very good and lists all the needed information.
Here is a hole by hole run down:

1-downhill throw with the basket out in the open
2-uphill and dog legs right
3-uphill shot with the basket out in the open
4-slightly uphill, watch out for the road on the right hand side
5-moderate length, has trees in the fairway to navigate around
6-has 2 trees off the box to throw between and a low ceiling. Plays L to R
7-slightly downhill and has a low canopy mid fairway to throw under. Basket is out in the open
8-short with the anny RHBH line being more open
9-wide open moderate length hole, with the basket up on the hill by the parking lot

Cons:

The wind will factor in here especially on holes 1,3, and 9. The right hand side of #4 has a road that is very close and if you throw a RHBH hyzer shot you could very well hit a car passing by.
There aren't any benches here, however I highly doubt that you would need them.
There is a possibility of hitting someone on #2 if you are throwing on #9 and your shot fades too much to the left, so be careful.

Other Thoughts:

This is a very well balanced beginner friendly, camp ground/park style course. $3 is very reasonable for an all day pass and this course is another option for an activity while you are camping. I played 2 rounds here mainly because I was chasing that ACE on the second time around.
For what it is, a campground 9 holer, this course does its job. It isn't super technical and it isn't super long either. Its a well balanced 9 holer at the lake. If you are in the area then hit this course up. Who knows maybe you will get that coveted ACE.
