+ Great variety of wooded, open and lakefront holes. Windrush Alley combines a wide variety of course "types": the initial holes are lightly-wooded park style; there are some narrow "woods" holes, and a number of wide open holes - plus the shoreline holes. With the exception of The Beast (the other course on the property), I've never played a course that presents so many different types of disc golf - and keeps switching among them as you play your round


+ The rough on the lakeside holes is largely tall grasses - it's punishing, but it's clearly visible, and on a windy day you'll feel like you're playing links-style golf in Scotland. You're throwing low shots that have to take account of the wind while aiming at specific landing areas


+ Many of the reviews on this site seem to predate the conditions I found (especially the signage). Excellent poured concrete tees, very good signage and baskets. Clean course in a well-maintained State park with plenty of parking. There's nothing wrong with the equipment or amenities here

~ I can't imagine how great it would be to live near Lakeside and play these courses regularly. The day we played featured howling winds off the lake, creating an entirely different set of disc choices and challenges than we'd find on a calm evening


~ The pars are pretty easy on the white (Windrush Alley) course, and only a few of the holes are very memorable. It's a good course and a fun play, but it's overshadowed by the awesomeness of the blue course (The Beast). If you have time for only one round (and you're up to the challenge), skip this one to play The Beast. But if you have time for both (and I hope you do), white makes a great warm-up and introduction to the conditions of playing lakeside

The White Course. The baby brother of the Beast on the other side of the parking lot. A more relaxing round for sure, but that doesn't mean this course is easy. With wind coming off the lake, and brutal rough in some places, bogies can come just as easily as birdies.

Set in the gorgeous Lakeside Beach State Park that houses beautiful views of Lake Ontario, I had a nice time camping here for the weekend, even though I am by no means a camping kind of guy. In addition to this, the course was in great condition. The fairways were mowed well, lines were marked for the tournament, and all tees were marked.

The tee sign, while only one per hole, had a nice map and distances for all three pads. While it would be worse if you weren't playing the pad with the tee sign, it's not hard to look at the sign, and then go to your correct tee. The white an blue tees are nice and grippy concrete that allow a full brace on your drives.

For a course that is mostly wide open, there was a surprising mix of shots. A lot of tight lines through the trees on the middle stretch of the course, as well as some strategically placed trees on the wide open holes that make them less than a grip and rip.

This course is a very fun track, but lacks a few things that make it the best of the best.

This course isn't incredibly difficult, as a good bit of the holes are two-able, and the course pars are forgiving (although par really doesn't matter ) The knee high rough on some of the more open holes plays as more of a nuisance than a challenge.

There is a streak of wooded holes in the middle of the course that are pretty lackluster. They are pretty tight, play similarly to each other, and overall, not the greatest disc golf holes.

Navigation isn't impossible by any means of the word, but I would recommend having the map up on your phone. As noted in other reviews, you walk across the parking lot to get to hole 10.

This course doesn't have the "wow" holes that are more prevalent on the Blue course. This course is definitely more geared to the intermediate player.

Overall, the course is worth a play. If it was by itself, I would still say that you should play this course, but with another course, that is even better, right on-site, this turns into a destination. With amazing views and camping on the other side of the park, make a weekend out of a trip to Shore Winds!

-Forgiving pars (pro for those just beginning)
-Often much cooler near the lake during the summer which is nice in the dog days of summer.
-Great for warming up for the Blue Course next door.
-After the front nine you will walk back by the parking lot, so you can drop off trash, grab something you forgot or use the bathroom

-Often very windy, like ridiculously windy.
-Experienced players may see the forgiving pars as a con.
-The last few holes don't have much character.
-The rough (long grass) on some of the holes can get a bit high, making it difficult to find discs.
-Some thick rough, filled with prickers and other nasty brambles. (holes 6, 7, 8, 9)

This is my most often played course. I'm lucky to have the two courses offered at Lakeside so close to home. The fact there are two great courses and camping on site makes this for a great disc golf get away. The park is well kept and the fairways are rarely deep. There is also very little trash here compared to some of the city courses. The park has a carry in carry out policy, so if you happen to bring your beverage of choice, please make sure you have a plan for carrying the empties to your vehicle.
They have done some trimming, most notably on hole 7 to make the tunnel a little wider in parts. They also have trimmed 2 and 15.
Make a weekend out of disc golf and camp at this park, there is plenty of disc golf to be played here.

- A perfect companion to the Blue Course (The beast) which is on the same property; this one significantly shorter and not as advanced, but still has plenty of challenge.
- Nice mix of wooded holes (3, 10, 11, 12, 13), open holes on the fields along the bluff above Lake Ontario (4, 5, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18) and other interesting holes.
- Holes 1 and 2 are nice easy warm up holes.
- Have played this one several times and never get bored with it.
- Nice tee pads, signs, and bathrooms.
- Gorgeous campground right on site.
- Championship level course right across the parking lot.

- Hole 6 is right along the road which has the potential for issues and is distracting.
- Long walk from #9 basket to #10 tee.
- Not really many restaurants or stores nearby, so make you bring everything that you need.
- Entry fee.

- Part of a perfect disc golf weekend....stay/camp here and do both courses plus some of the great ones about 30-45 minutes away in Rochester (Parma, Basil Marella, etc.)

Even the short wooded holes are now throwable. The tee pads and signs are in excellant conditiion. The day we played last, the wind was not a problem on the lakeside holes. It's not a long drive for me, but it is a good enough course,especially with the Blue Course on site to justify a drive and a longer day.

- a good variety of hole lengths including a few nice multi shot holes and a few that should be an easy chance at 2.

- maps available at the kiosk by hole 1. Pick one up.

- signage. Most of the course is easy enough to follow as the tee is close to the prior basket and obvious. 9-10 transition is NOT obvious w/o the map.
- tee signs with hole pictures / lengths would be nice.
- tall grass "rough" can be frustrating more than punishing.
- hole 6 puts a road very much in play. there isn't a lot of traffic but especially with the road hugging the left side on the longest par 3 it is perfect for landing noob hyzers in the road.
- a few of the wooded holes have some very tight lines required. probably too tight for the beginner audience - but these are very short holes so even if you don't hit your line par is usually an option.
- $6 for parking for the day.

Overall a great beginner friendly course. On the short side with very forgiving pars, but this makes it a great compliment to the much tougher and longer blue course. Great amenities, great views, and a lot of fun. Bring the family, have lunch, and sneak a round in on this course and another on the blue after lunch. By itself this course wouldn't be a destination course but with the blue courses and scenery its a great way to spend a day.

If you can only play one of the 2 courses on site - I would play this if you are a beginner. If you are int/advanced I would definitely play the blue as it is much more challenging.

-Excellent course for a beginner/amateur. Majority of the holes were shorter par 3's with a few tricky blind/dogleg/tight fairway shots thrown in.

-Camping within walking distance for 20$ a night! Play the white one day, the blue the other!

-Needs more signage!! Hole description signs on each tee would really help as well. Make sure you grab a map provided by the park at the kiosks on both #1's or the main gate if it's open.
-When you go in the rough, you are in the ROUGH! Throw a bright colored disc! The rough (where I spent most of my time) was about a foot high!

-Bring bug spray!
-I have played the blue and the white courses here. The blue course (longer) is more for the advanced players. Although, the white course had a few shots I had to think about. It would be perfect to bring your kids to play. The holes are all shorter so they won't get as frazzled.

The course plays in a nice park with two courses and onsite camping. The white course is a little shorter than the blue, with a little more variety. There is a mix of a few park style holes, some technical wooded shots and several links style holes mowed through the long grass along the lake. The woods holes offer a few different lines to hit, and the open holes have some length variety. There are multiple tees that at least offer different distances for various levels of players.

Some staked off ob areas add some challenge, and a few holes have enough trees to punish errant shots. There are course maps available at the parking lot that make navigation pretty easy other than one long walk.

There are some dangerous spots on this course, with roads and picnic areas in play off several tees. It didn't seem like the park gets too crowded, but there definitely are potential issues. The tees are natural, and some of the wooded ones are a bit eroded, I could see many of them getting a bit rough after wet weather. There is no signage at the tees, the course map is nice but hole distance and layout would be nice.

There is a long walk between the front and back 9s that would be pretty difficult to figure out without the map. I'm not a huge fan of long grass rough, it adds frustration rather than real challenge. The different tees really only make small distance changes, and almost always have the exact same line.

I enjoyed this course, and it's worth a stop if you're in the area with two layouts on site and camping in the park. Beginners will find the course fairly accessible, the long grass holes are short enough that they won't be too frustrating. Experienced players won't find too much challenge here, there are some nice views and a few fun shots but no real tests.

-i thought the wooded holes were very disappointing. very short and very tight but not a lot of good lines. maybe there are some local routes that aren't very obvious?
-newer players may be frustrated by the wind on the open holes but especially the ones back near the lake, it is quite challenging.
-the walk from 9 to 10 is long and not at all obvious, some next tee signs would be great. i think there was one in the place where you go into the woods to get to 10.
-the multiple tees rarely change the hole, most are just another 20-30' longer

This gorgeous state parks boasts two full 18 hole courses and with the amenities and views makes for a great all day experience. It would be easy to bring the family here and keep everyone occupied.

The white course is the shorter of the two and is pretty forgiving except for the tall grass. This along with the multiple tees make it an ideal place to introduce people to the game or bring beginners.

The course makes its way through several different areas of the park. The first 5 are on the east side of the area with 3 short technical holes then 2 longer open holes. The rest of the front 9 plays around an area south of the park road. Then back across the parking lot and into the woods for a few holes before moving out in the open near the lake. 4, 5, and 14-18 all have tall rough next to the fairways. I really liked how the course plays through these different areas, each section has a different feel and it adds to the sense of variety here.

The wind is a significant factor on the open holes and particularly on 14-18 near the lake. You really have to know your discs and read the wind to stay on the fairway.

Overall, the course was fun and beautiful but there wasn't anything that really wowed me about it. I think the fact that there are two courses is what makes it worth the trip. I didn't have time to play the Blue course but I might have been disappointed if the White course was all there was out here. If you only have time for one course, I'd probably play the Blue course. But this place is definitely worth the trip, especially if you have the time spend all day there.

- wind: can sometimes be very windy, but that's part of the fun. i'd say it's only been windy 20% of the time i've gone

- tees and signs: gotta say i'd love for there to be fly pads or concrete. also, no signs at the tees giving distance or picture of the hole
- wooded holes: are kind of weak (12 is the best of the four). the only redeeming quality is there are only a few of them and they're short
- pars: doesn't seem like a par 71 course (as listed on the scorecard). on dgcr the blue tees on dgcr are listed as a par 54, which to me seems ridiculous with 6 holes over 400 feet, 3 of those 6 are close to or over 500 feet. seems like it should be a par 60.

- fast to play. if you're short on time, play the white course for sure.
- if you're not short on time, consider playing both and hang out at the park for some lunch
- if you disc golf with family, you might want to come in the fall and when you're done head on over to brown's berry patch which is only 2 miles away on rt 18. http://brownsberrypatch.com / not just berries, but apples, pumpkins, apple cider donuts, live music, grill, indoor restaurant...simply awesome (just went there this past weekend with my wife and daughter)

- the park station holds discs in the welcome center if they find them. They will call you if your name and number is on them or just check in occasionally and see if your discs are there.
- no one is ever there. there are picnic tables but I never see anyone. (well maybe one or two) It seems the whole park is dedicated to disc golf.
- I played today 6/19 and there are now detailed signs and concrete tee pads have been installed for the white tees . As of 4/17/16 there are concrete tee pads at the blue tees as well.

- no signs pointing to the next hole. most holes are straightforward but signs would help on some of them.
- the two course intertwine with each other on the back nine and could be confusing as to which course you are playing on. (I haven't had that problem yet but I could see it happening)
- lots of heavy brush to lose discs on. (my friend lost three today)

There are some wooded holes but they are not that good, but it does add more variety to the course. The pars are generous which can be good for newcomers. Some of the more experienced players just play all par 3's. I am not one of them.I will post that when I find out. Overall great course and even better with another course right there. There are grills on site so bring lunch and make a day of it.

In one word: Beautiful! The course is well laid out, with a bit of everything. Some mowed fairways, some tight woods shots, and wide open shots on the shores of lake Ontario. The course is easy to navigate, with 4' white markers at each tee pad with the corresponding hole number. We got to play it on a great autumn day in upstate, NY and it was just breathtaking. Worth the drive from Rochester.

WIND!! Oh my god, the course name is very accurate. I'm all for a little wind, but we must have gone on a bad day. Five foot putts would lift immediately and carry twenty feet away. Used my midrange as my putter after going back an forth a few times on one. My only other gripe is with the "marked" pars. On a calmer day, a novice could crush the 400 ft. "par 5's" that litter the course. If the wind is down, this course would make an excellent confidence booster. Playing it as all 3's would be more realistic.

I had to drive 45 minutes from Rochester to play this one, and it's likely about the same from Buffalo. Absolutely worth the trip. It sits next to a campground on the lake, and we're already talking about a trip for the weekend next summer. I would like a few more cracks at redemption as the wind beat my butt on my first try. Can't wait to play this one again!

unclear OB. Some people were playing all long grass is OB if it had stakes in it, others played that you had to pass the stakes for OB.

The wooded holes are not good wooded holes, like Basil Marella. There is no fairway on #12, it's just a lucky crap shoot and there are several saplings right infront of the tee on 13. They are short and dense with no clear shot. Since it is only 2 holes it is not extremly frustrating, but they are 2 weak holes.

Hole 6 is a dangerous hole. You stand next to the road and throw down to a curve in the road, so you can not see a car coming as you are throwing directly at it.
Gravel and grass tees can get muddy and slippery.
Gravel in some areas can chew up discs

Course is set up like 2 9 hole courses, there is a long walk to get to hole 10 from hole 9.
Tee signs would be a nice addition.

Wind is a HUGE factor, I threw a driver and the wind held it still in the air, then pushed the disc back towards me. It was also lifting discs making putts from 15-20 feet fly 20 feet past the basket. It is a unique challenge that may affect your game that day, then the next day you will have a totally different experience with no wind.

Nice piece of land for a course. All three tees marked with colored stakes (they look temporary and hope more permanent ones are installed soon). Great mixture of holes with tight woods to long, open bombs. The mowed fairways make blah open holes a little more challenging. The view on the last five holes over Lake Ontario is amazing.

Super crazy thick rough is abundant around holes 6 though 9 with lots of poison ivy. Long trek from hole 9 to 10. A couple wooded holes just seemed too tight for me, especially from the red tees. No number plates on the baskets.

Had a blast playing this new course over the 4th. Apparently if you get to the park after 6 you don't have to pay $6 to enter. I really hope to see the course mature over the next few years with the addition of teepads, directional signage and the brush getting beat down a little more.

This course really took me by surprise. A very pleasant surprise. You get a little bit of everything here but the views from the last five holes are tremendous and worth the drive. I equate it to the disc golf equivalent of Pebble Beach.

Beautiful location on the shores of Lake Ontario in a well kept state park. The last few holes play in a field right along the banks of the lake. The entire course is well maintained with natural and gravel tees and painted stakes for tee markers. Nice variety of open and wooded holes. Scorecards and maps available at start of course make it easy to navigate.

Course plays close to several picnic areas which could be a problem when the park is busy. Several of the fairways on the last few holes are real close to each other and will likely be a hazard during heavy play. Several holes play along some thick brush that is easy to lose discs in. No tee signs.

Overall I think this is a great course in a beautiful park with a good variety of holes. We played on a Sunday before Memorial Day with very few people at the park and only a few other disc golfers. This park is about halfway between Rochester and Buffalo, so I'm not sure how busy it gets, but I wouldn't expect the course to get too backed up. It's a great course to spend the day golfing and barbecuing.

Awesome course with a variety of different shots. Enjoyed starting in the open and working my way through the tight alley way shots in the woods, and then back out to the open. The holes next to Lake Ontario were absolutely stunningly epic. Course map + score card, public bathroom, bountiful picnic tables also made this a great course. Saw zero other people playing which allowed me to take my time. Tee's were marked well and will only be better once cement is put in. Overall a great course, will definitely play it again.

A crapload of bugs. Picnic tables near holes 1, 2, 3, could be a problem on heavy traffic summer days. Lack of cement tees also a factor, but being that this course is very new it's not that off putting. Other than those minor details this is a great course that only has room for improvements.

Great course, great place to spend the day, beautiful scenery, right on the water.

A bueatiful park hosts this course set right on the edge of Lake Ontario. The course was pretty enjoyable with a mild difficulty that would be good for anyone.
Hole Break Down:
1 - A short right to left hole that a good duce chance.
2 - Is a short left to right hole that will punish you if you over shoot the hole.
3 - Is a S turn through a fairly open lane in the woods. Hitting a tree and going on to the woods will surely add a stroke.
4 - Is the longest hole yet and plays from an elavated tee position. Someone with a big arm can probably reach it within one shot that goes over the tree's.
5 - Another fairly open hole that can be played with an anhyzer or hyzer shot.
6 - A fairly open straight hole. The green is on a slight slope and the road boarders the fairway on the left.
7 - I like this hole the schule on the left and right slowly tighten as the fairway gets closer to the basket.
8 - A par 5 that can be duced by experience players. Fairly open but O.B. comes into play on both side of the fairway in the tall grass.
9 - A left to right hole that pretty short. If you over shoot it straight making the approach back could be risky.
10 - Fairly far away from 9 and wasn't well marked. A straight shot through a REALLY tight gap. An anhyzer route is an option if you can see it.
11 - Super short hole that I almost putted at from the tee. Its a left to right hole.
12. Another short hole. I couldn't see a clear fairway for this hole and just threw a thumber trying to poke through.
13 - A long S turn shot. I felt like I really had to lace my shot when I got my duce, but it isn't so bad that its a poke and hope.
14 - The first hole on the back nine that plays out along Lake Ontario. Its a reachable straight shot, but brush comes into play half way up the fair way along the right side.
15 - Reminds me of playing a links style ball golf course. A par 5 that I duced from inside the cirlce. The tall grass and being right next to the lake make this hole majestic.
16 - Is pretty much 15 in reverse. Wide open, reachable, par 5.
17 - Teeing off from inside the woods its a short left turing hole
18 - An up hill hole that you can't see from the tee. You need to be sure that your disc doesn't fade out left into the lake.

I wonder how difficult it would be to play hole 1 during the summer if people are using all the picnic tables. The walk between 9 and 10 was longer then I've ever seen anywhere else. A map on the tee sign for 9 would have been great because we played to a gap that looked like where the hole would go but ended up being incorrect. We ended up playing to 18's basket from 17's tee. With three sets of tee's I wish they were a little stretched out so the blue and white tee's had more challenge. When the cement teepads go in this would be a 3.5 for me. If some of the tee pads weren't so close to other teepad's and baskets this would probably bump it up to a 4 for me.

Just awesome scenery. This course begs for a tourney or some kind of competition between Rochester and Bumsville... I mean Buffalo.

This is going to be a really nice course with a little work. If scenery had a rating, it would get a 5/5 for that -- the whole layout runs through the woods and fields of a bluff on Lake Ontario. Unlike Wilson and Evangola, which are set well back from the lakefronts in their respective parks, you're directly next to the water here, close enough that an awful drive could get wet.

Good mix of wooded and open, short and long holes. 1-3 are tame, short woodsy warm-ups to what quickly becomes a much tougher course. 4 plays out into a field with very tight OB's marked, 5 and 6 should be unremarkable open-field pars most of the time.

That brings us to 7, a really tight tunnel shot with nasty thick hedges on both sides. I'm assuming that the tunnel will be a mando, because as it stands, there's definitely the better option of going high and deep right-to-left. However, that line has the dangerous distinction of blindly ending exactly where hole 8's tee is. Lefties, break out your understable discs on 8 -- the right is a jungle of nearly impenetrable pricker bushes.

10-13 are back into the woods for tight placement shots, and although they play short, it's easy to deflect off a tree for bogey or worse.

14-18 are the "signature" portion of the course. Tight and long mowed fairways are flanked by tall grass with moderate elevation change. These holes are subject to the full fury of the wind coming off the lake, which varies from moderate to just a notch below category 1 hurricane. A calm day back there is going to be rare indeed. If the tall grass is OB, those holes will be highly challenging most days.

Good course flow, with only one short "jump" between 9-10. (And it goes right through the parking lot/restroom area, which is a plus.) Ample parking for even a large tourny.

Some of the wooded holes could have been longer and less poke'n'hope.

Coming up the fairway of 16, you find 2 baskets in near proximity, and none have #'s on them yet. Which to shoot at? Only after searching for 17's tee and finding it up in the woods, was it clear which basket was which.

Remote -- it's about equally far from Rochester and Buffalo. I suppose this could be a pro as well, if you're searching for a course that won't get much traffic.

I love the holes out next to the lake shore -- definitely a unique environment. The mix of wild winds and scenery make this worth the drive.

Heading out from Buffalo, I'd suggest taking route 18. The thruway to 98 might be slightly faster, but it was pure monotony the whole way, as well as harboring a few small-town speed traps.

Should be an ideal location for tournaments.

Great mix of open and wooded holes. has alot of potential. A few great alley shots command controll of your discs. A large hyzer should work well on #9 if you can avoid tree in front of you. Hole # 4 could be a great tournament hole with a couple of out of bounds leaving a tight fairway.
