Gone soon?

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 21, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Excellent use of elevation to challenge and excite you
- Not a heavily wooded course but enough trees
- Creeks make some throws a bit scarier
- Funny triple mando
- Really challenging mix of longer par 3 holes
- A few par 4/5 holes though these are the easiest on the course by par

Cons:

- Graffiti and trash are present
- The front 9 isn't nearly as good as the back
- You can throw the same disc for most holes out here
- Navigation is rough for first timers without Udisc
- A few holes play close to the road leading to the park and walking/picnic areas

Other Thoughts:

Apparently, according to locals this park is getting an upgrade and disc golf isn't in the plans for the upgrade. It's tough to blame the parks department when all you see when you play here is empty beer cans, cigarette butts, and graffiti. When will disc golfers learn to take pride in their courses so they don't get pulled? I know, I know the same old line of "it's not all disc golfers" but the problem is it's generally in the disc golf area and the disc golfers aren't cleaning it up. Not sure if no one cares anymore for this course or what the deal is but the local club needs to organize some work parties and get this place into shape. It's a really nice course, design wise, it would be a shame for it to become extinct.

Well anyway I think it's a nice course that's worthy of your time and to check out if in the area.

Turner Park

Reviewed: Played on:May 21, 2023 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-- Elevation. Depending on basket placements, all 18 holes can have significant elevation. Three holes throw up hill and down hill. In the course's most-flat iteration, 15 of 18 holes have significant elevation.
-- In addition to the elevation, this had other great features: Large mature trees and a meandering creek that comes into play often. The only thing missing is a significant water carry.
-- This is a long course, but distance variation is excellent. Only three holes are shorter than 300 feet, but 10 are 350 or shorter, and you've got three longer than 550, including the 1,000-foot finishing hole.
-- Basics are there. Good baskets and concrete tee pads. Tee signs are old but have good information (par, distance, picture of the hole).
-- Port-o-potty at the parking lot.
-- Best holes are 10, 12 and 13. Ten is 330 feet with tree right and a creek left. You've got to clear a small creek/ditch about 300 feet from the tee. Twelve is 295 feet with THREE water carries. All are over the small creek/ditch, but that makes accuracy crucial. The basket is surrounded on three sides by water. Thirteen is 564 feet. You tee downhill hitting a gap in the trees to clear the small creek before a right turn uphill to a guarded basket. And that leaves out 18: more than 200 feet uphill off the tee before a plateau longer than a football field and then long downhill into trees to reach the basket.
-- Seating at the tees. It's not at every hole, but it feels as if you find seating just when you need it. And between the length and the uphill walking, you might need it often.

Cons:

-- Navigation is not very intuitive. There is a long walk from 4 to 5 (follow the road and then a worn path). Another long walk (down hill, using metal stairs) from 9 to 10. The course loops back on itself, so you sometimes pass a tee well before you play that hole.
-- Water in the creek is generally shallow, but thick foliage and slippery creek banks can make disc retrieval difficult.
-- Mandos. I am not a fan, but I am more understanding when they are for safety reasons. Most of the mandos here fall into that category, but a few are questionable, and the clown's mouth on No. 3 is design only.
-- Between the elevation and the basket options, it can be difficult to know where you are throwing. Flags on the top of the baskets help, but you still are likely to spend some time walking up the fairway to locate the basket.

Other Thoughts:

-- Five years ago, the city announced plans to remove disc golf from this park to make room for other uses. A promise was made to install another course before this one is removed.

It's just not very much fun at all. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 23, 2022 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Difficult course that takes significant advantage of elevation and length.

-Good variety of basket positions that keeps the course fresh from time to time.

-The back 9 are some good holes, with a nice mix of long wooded holes and long wide open uphill and downhill holes, some tricky landing zones and greens, and some water running throughout to keep you one your toes, nothing's going to steal your disc though. Hole 18 can be as long as 1000 ft in its long position with some uphill heaves followed by tricky downhill approaches to a rollaway green.

Cons:

-I know the club works hard to keep it in good condition but there's almost always plenty of trash everywhere you go, and the grass is usually dead and the trees are dying and you're always near a road or a highway.

-There are somehow significant walks from tees to the next basket and yet many tee boxes are in danger of getting hit from drives on other tees. Throughout you've got to keep your head on a swivel in terms of crossing fairways and poorly placed tee boxes, not to mention the close proximity of fenced in yards, parked cars, various expensive lawsuits waiting for your wrist roll.

-While many of the holes are long and feature exciting elevation, a nice challenge, many of the baskets are blind from the tee (and rotated frequently), requiring you to walk 300 ft or so uphill and downhill just to see where the basket is, then you walk back to the tee, catch your breath, and take your shot. It's a great place to get your steps in!

-The front 9 is just dumb. Wide-open holes all next to each other and then some silly short holes through trees that are really just poke and hopes.

-There's always a lot of traffic when I'm here, both other DGers and people hanging out, so the rounds are long and slow and you're worried about hitting people.

-Artificial out of bounds and Mandos abound to try to carve some difficulty out of an environment that's really not naturally suited to DG.

-Minimal shade so it's hot as hell for a lot of the year.

Other Thoughts:

This is one of the more popular and higher-rated courses in the metroplex but it's just not fun to play. You walk too far to play a dumb long or silly short hole and worry about hitting another person or a car and then move on to the next one. My buddies live nearby so we play it a lot but I almost always regret it. It's an absolute workout but not in an interesting way, just in a "I wish we just went to Veterans".

Bring your Leopards and throw up hill and hit lines get your pars while drinking some beers to keep you hydrated and distracted from the sort of sad environs.

Taxing, Tranquil Terrain 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 16, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Discs soar great distances over hills on this shaded course.
+ plenty of trees provide good cover and tough obstacles
+ hilly terrain adds dramatic elevation changes
+ the many long holes feel appropriate for the course (not just long for sake of being long)
+ generously open fairways encourage grip it and rip it throws
+ course is nestled into park surrounding in such a way as to create areas that feel secluded from the rest of the park

Cons:

There's potential for hills to slow play and creeks to hide discs.
- walking the hills is a bit of a work out
- thick foliage, especially around creeks, make it hard to find errant shots
- deceptively shallow-looking yet deep sections of creek makes disc retrieval tricky
- several blind tee shots may require walking fairways occasionally to learn where to throw

Other Thoughts:

INFO
This course sits in the heart of the Metroplex just off Hwy I-30 between Dallas and Fort Worth on a very hilly and shady stretch of park land. While green spaces are primarily designated for disc golf use, the park also includes a baseball field (since removed), play ground, picnic shelters and community buildings accessible via roads within the park. This course plays long with six holes over 400 ft., including two over 550 ft. and a final hole that measures just over 1,000 ft. in length. Many holes have mandos to protect discs from entering roadways or other areas frequented by park guests.

EVAL
The gently rolling hills of this nicely maintained city park pose both a welcome change from the majority of flatter Texas blackland prairie courses in the area and a formidable challenge with its differing elevation obstacles from hole to hole. Thankfully, tall old-growth trees provide much needed shade during the heat of Texas summers. The design of this course tests accuracy and distance in equal measure, and its aforementioned hills test one's stamina for continuously walking uphill and downhill.

The challenging arrangement of holes along these inviting hills and among so many mature trees in this relaxing park setting yields a really satisfying, epic feel to play on this course that abounds with risk vs. reward opportunities. There's a bit of exhilaration that comes from watching discs soar on throws and maneuver around trees standing ready to arrest their flight which this course offers again and again. If this course were flat it would be a good course, but add in the hills and it becomes a great course. I have so much fun playing rounds here. The taxing, tranquil terrain both challenges me in my game and calms me as I traverse the course. This is the kind of course that generates excitement just thinking about next plays or recalling previous rounds thrown. It's one that always puts a smile on my face, and I shall sorely miss it when it's gone.

NOTE
On a hillside in the corner of the park beside basket #16 lies The Texas Map, a unique roadside attraction displaying a stone map of Texas' counties. The Texas Map was the vision of former Council Member Ruthe Jackson. Each stone in the map was imported from the county it represents.

In 2018 the city of Grand Prairie announced plans to eventually remove disc golf from this park to utilize the area for redevelopment, agreeing to build a new course elsewhere within the city first before removing this one.

LAYOUT
The course begins in the center of the park. Holes #1-2 throw first uphill to the front of a park building and then downhill into the field behind it. Hole #3 continues downhill through a framed triple mando guarding a gazebo off to the left. Hole #4 throws back uphill between a double mando to a basket beside the woods. (Walk left around woods and cross the park road at T-intersection to #5 down by creek.)

Hole #5 throws across the creek and up underneath trees branches on a small hillside. (Walk uphill around woods to #6.) Holes #6-9 travel up and down the hillsides of a deep gulley. A mando protects the roadway on hole #6, and a tricky pin position near the top of a steep hillside hides #6's basket from view in the long position. Short hole #7 crosses the gulley to the opposite hillside. Hole #8 throws downhill along the park boundary with a neighboring business on the right towards boulders near a drainage area. Then hole #9 returns back uphill through trees to a basket beside woods. (Follow stairs downhill through the woods to #10.)

Hole #10 lies between the creek on left and woods on right and crosses the creek in its long position. Uphill hole #11 throws past a mando on the right through trees and downhill in its long position. (Cross the park road to #12.) Hole #12 carries slightly downhill over a meandering creek and ends at a shaded green encircled by a horseshoe bend of the creek. (Walk right uphill to #13.)

Lengthy hole #13 throws downhill over the creek through a gap in the trees and past a right side mando before curving off to the right beneath a large tree canopy towards the basket parked near roadside trees. (Walk uphill to #14.) Hole #14 throws downhill through a clearing to a basket at the edge of the trees. Then hole #15 turns around to go back uphill past trees and a picnic shelter towards the corner of the park. A mando protecting the street to the right on long hole #16 leads downhill to a basket in front of a wooded backstop near a drainage ditch. (Cross the drainage ditch to #17.) Hole #17 throws over the drainage ditch and slightly uphill beneath a few trees. The longest and final hole #18 heads uphill to start, doglegs right past a mando at the top where the fairway levels out across a clearing, then throws past another mando on the right and ultimately finishes downhill at a green hidden from view until within range for an approach.

Great, Hilly Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 8, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Turner Park in Grand Prairie is the hilliest course I have ever played in the state of Texas, which is not known for its abundance of hills on the east side of the state. You will definitely get your work out in here. The course utilized the elevation well. A lot of baskets were perched at the edge of a hill, which created death putts where if you miss you will be rolling down the hill. Lots of risk/reward type of holes here.

This really is a championship caliber course, clocking in over 7,000' You need to get your birdies when you can, because they are tough to get. Each hole has its own challenge whether that be the major elevation, long length, or the few technical holes that are offered in the middle of the course. This course is punishing, and will not reward bad shots.

Each hole has a nice concrete tee pad and detailed tee signs on every hole. The baskets are a bit older but still have good bones. Because of the elevation, the course has plenty of blind baskets, but the blind baskets have poles with flags that you can see from the tee. It makes it easier for first time players to not have to walk half way down the fairway.

The last few holes are some of the most epic I have played consecutively. A couple par 4s and then a crazy, finishing 1000'+ hole bringing you back to the front of the course.

Cons:

Navigation is tricky at places. Hole 4 to hole 5 is challenging to find as a brand new player. The map on here helps with that.

There are a bit of overlapping fairways or fairways that play very close together; the holes in the middle that play in the woods are tight fairways to one another and you risk throwing into another fairway.

This course is very challenging, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but this course is definitely not a place to bring a new player or play if you just started.

Other Thoughts:

I like to think I am in okay physical shape, but I was exhausted after playing this course. The hills were intense especially the walk from 13 to 14.

All in all, this is an incredible course that is a must play in the DFW area. Any skill level of player will be challenged through-and-through. Good scores are far and in between. There are no gimmie holes here.

Good Course for the Area Given 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 12, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Several long, challenging holes
Good tee pads
Good signage
Excellent use of significant elevation changes on almost every hole
Lots of bridges to cross creeks.
Lefty friendly :)

Cons:

Some holes very close to a busy road or too close one another
A little too open on a few of the holes, not enough guardian trees by the baskets, but they are often on an incline.
Dangerous drives on a few holes if there are people there in playground area.
perpetual muddy ground on a couple of holes.
small creeks on several holes that are deep or muddy and will eat discs more than you would realize by looking at them.

Other Thoughts:

Turner utilizes the very hilly space of the park very well, but it seems like the a couple of the holes are mashed on top of each other...there is no space or woods separating the fairways. You definitely feel like you are in the middle of a small park in the city as you are right next to busy traffic on several holes. Not a place to escape civilization, but does play very good with the area given. There are several small creeks in the course that will gobble up discs more than you would think. One of the holes has a creek that zigzags across the fairway about 5 times and even a good throw can skip into one of deep parts and get lost and it is more of a luck shot than anything to avoid getting wet on it. Updating my review after playing it recently and seeing even more improvements and bridges added to get across the creeks which is a big plus.

I saw an online posts from the course designer and locals who are in the know that this course is on borrowed time...it may only be around for another year or so as there is some sort of bureaucratic nonsense going on with the city where they are allowing a "consulting" firm to dictate the parks destiny. The firm doesn't want the disc golf course there to obtain extra funds from the state with what is called a legacy park designation. Seems like the city wants some money in their coffers vs. providing a really good service to people with what is currently a destination disc golf course for the DFW area. Play here while you can before the city takes it away to pad their parks budget. The city has promised it will replace this course with another before this one goes away, but it will not have all of the hilly features Turner Park has.

Challenging and Fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 10, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Played this course a couple times and plan to hit it a few more
- Good variety of open, long throws and some tight wooded throws.
- Just about every hole is pretty long throw. No easy birdies here.
- Couple of creek hazards, but none we were unable to fish the disc from.
- Love one hole on the back half that has you throwing over a long field of wildflowers.
- Markings and baskets are good
- Good shade for most of the course

Cons:

- You will see one or two holes where there is a tree almost directly in line of throw from tee box... and it is beaten up. One in the party will inevitably hit that tree. Ha
- One or two navigational issues, but not too bad.

Other Thoughts:

- I find the wooden frame around the throw at hole 3 hilarious. Forces a more accurate throw to start and someone usually hits it!

A tough fun round 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 22, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Huge variability
-Beautiful

Cons:

-Tough Navigation
-Change of layout makes the ending confusing
-Very tiring because of the hills

Other Thoughts:

Difficulty (4/5): This course will really make you work, and punishes missed lines. The few wide open holes are long. Most holes have the opportunity to hit trees fairly soon off the tee, which would guarantee you a bogey. Birdies were practically impossible for me on most holes because of the combination of distance and obstacles. However, I found that a well placed fairway driver off of the tee left me a manageable upshot. If you're conservative on your drive, you'll give yourself a lot of pars. If you want birdies you'll have to get aggressive, and run the risk of lots of bogeys.

Maintenance (5/5): Grass is cut very short. The pins are in perfect condition, as are the teepads. The brush seems to be cut back frequently. The tee signs are great! Very informative about distance, location, and out of bounds.

Variability (5/5): Even with my general strategy of throwing safe layup shots off of the tee I was required to throw a ton of different shots. Turnovers, S-Curves, hyzers, low skips, etc. If the wind had been right I would have thrown a couple of tomahawks/thumbers too. The elevations changes and obstacles really forced me to consider what my best option was off of the tee, which made for a really fun, technical round. I would imagine going for the birdies would have increased that even more.

Flow/Experience (1.5/5): The flow of this course left a lot to be desired. The multiple pin locations for the majority of holes will add a lot for replayability, but makes navigation a pain. There were multiple instances where several pins could reasonably be the pin I was supposed to be shooting at, so I would have to walk all the way to the pin to check the number to make sure it was the right one. To add on top of that, they have removed hole 8 and construction has changed the layout of 18. This caused me significant confusion as a first timer playing alone.

Great Course not too far from Downtown Dallas 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 7, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Intermediate level course set in a mixed use park.

Baskets - 20 grippy DGA baskets. 1 basket per hole as well as 2 practice baskets. Had no issues with spit outs. There were 3 pin placements per hole.

Tees - 1 grippy concrete tee per hole. However, course seemed to be going through construction so hole 18's tee was natural.

Variety - This course had a great mix of holes that varied from short and technical to long and open using elevation as its obstacle. Most of the holes were medium length but there were several on the longer side which was a nice bonus. There were no heavily wooded holes but there were moderately wooded holes as well as water hazards. The water hazards were a creek and a small pond. They were shallow when I played so it wasn't much of a factor.

There were a few blind shots due to elevation but there were large flags sticking up out of the baskets.

Signs - There was a course map at the start, as well as signs at every hole that had a map, distance, par, as well as next hole.

There were benches at a few of the holes but exactly where you needed them. There were also a few trash cans throughout.

Course was clean with exception of 8 in the brush beyond the basket.

Easy to navigate.

Options for food and drink nearby if needed.

Cons:

Alternate tees on each hole would be a game changer. I think it could take this course to a 4.5 out of 5. All of the long holes could use a shorter hole. The rest of the shorter and mid range holes could use an added tee to change the lines on the holes.

There were a few next hole signs. However, this course could use several added signs after a few of the holes pointing you in the right direction. After 4. After 5.

Construction took out hole 17. So for hole 17, play from original tee of 18 to basket 17. There is a temporary tee for 18.

Other Thoughts:

I did notice an extra tee next to hole 16 pointing to the tee of hole 17. No basket though. There is room to expand this course by a few holes. Perhaps splitting up hole 13. A hole between 16 and 17. Splitting up 18.

I really liked this course and would highly recommend it. The elevation really made it stand out. Being from Indianapolis, anytime elevation is added to a course, I really enjoy it.

Added tees, signs, and a few more trash cans would take this course to a 4.5 in my opinion. Ideally I would rate it a 4.25 but that was not an option.

If I return to the Dallas area, I would more than likely visit this course again and would recommend it to anyone in the area. It was about 20 minutes away from the DFW airport if you are staying in that area.

Grand Prarie 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 25, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

A very nice course that plays all around a city park. There is a good deal of trees and elevation, as well as a creek in some places. It utilizes these features very well. There really aren't any holes that play completely wide open, you have trees on most all of the holes, with big hills being the obstacles on others. it's not ridiculously wooded (Like Coyote or Z Boaz), but there are key trees to work around on every hole, even the really long ones. You have to shape your shot on every tee.
There's are really nice metal bridges anywhere that you have to cross the creek. Lots of parking.

Cons:

Navigation is not always very clear. There are good tee signs and a map on each tee, so you can usually find your way around, it's just not always intuitive. When the pins are in the longs, the long holes are stupid long, so be prepared for that.

Well-kept, challenging course with lots of hills and some trees. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 30, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Large variety of shots with holes that are of varying distance (from 180 ft. to over 1000 ft.) though most are a standard 3-par length.

Course is very well-designed. You never feel too far away from the parking lot.

Accurate tee markers, tee pads are a nice size and kept clean, holes are easy to see/find and often have flags coming from the top so players can see them over hilly areas.

Cons:

Some holes can be slightly difficult to find. Luckily, each hole has a map of the entire course located on the tee marker.

Due to Turner's difficulty, newer players might want to try someplace else until they're able to throw their discs reliably. I played this course before I got the hang of my throwing form and it was absolute hell.

Not tons of tree coverage, so you'll want to go in the morning/evenings during the summer months.

Pin placement is subject to the course maintenance people, so you don't get to choose whether you the play short, medium or long pins.

Other Thoughts:

Easily the best disc golf course I've played in the DFW area (alongside Grapevine, Trophy Club, Leonard L. Woods and Denton).

The signature hole probably has to be the 18th. It can be over 1000 ft. when the pin is in the long placement, 870 ft. for medium, and I think it gets significantly shorter from the short pin. I also really enjoyed the 16th, which is a straight shot downhill to the pin.

Great Course, longest drives I've seen 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 7, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Turner Park is one of the oldest, if not the oldest disc golf park in DFW and it's still all about little hills & valleys. This course is wide open for first 4 holes, then you enter the wooded glen around a narrow but surprisingly deep, clear creek. Turner has the best steel bridges (in DFW) to cross said creek and you'll need them. Hole #10 crosses the same creek 4 times! Little Creek is narrow but only 2-4ft deep, so you can easily get your disc after you've 'washed' it in the creek.

Cons:

If you DO NOT want a long walk work out, this course is NOT for you! Hole#18 at the long set, is 1000ft !! Holes #13-17 are all over 400ft and they too are up and down hills. That Said, I loved this course.

Other Thoughts:

I went back to play Turner. It's a great course well laid out. I still love Hole #7 with the shaded, green grass valley (with a 24ft drop then back up 18ft.) #7 is only 207ft in the short set. Ao it's Ace-able. When we were there, #7 was in the long set, protected by trees and nobody hit an Ace.

Turner Park is in a hilly area with scattered trees, several park roadways and a small creek running through it. The course layout utilizes these features very well placing baskets near roadways, the creek and on slopes that punish overthrows and inaccuracy very well.

Holes 1 and 2 are the most open holes on the course with no trees that come into play as I recall. And yet, ob sidewalks and roadway on 1 and brush past the basket on 2 provide challenge to start off your round.

Hole 3 has a basket on a slope with ob danger past and to the left (the direction of the slope) to make you wary of an overthrow from the tee.

Hole 4 follows with an uphill throw through a gap between or around trees and then then next few holes take you across the small creek, up hill, across the creek bottom, downhill, back up hill, and so forth. The elevation and creek has been used exceptionally well and this is a very fun course as a result.

The tee pads are the longest that I have ever played on. They are overkill on many of the shorter holes, but that's certainly nothing to complain about.

There are only two truly open holes (1 and 2). Every other hole requires some shot shaping, often times with a low ceiling to work with. There are also some very long holes, including a 1000+ finishing hole when the basket is in the log position, which it was when I played, and a long downhill, turnover hole that ends with a small island green.

There is virtually no repetitive feel to any of this course. The variety, elevation, use of the creek and challenge of the holes make this a course that I highly recommend if you are in the area.

This course is also very easy to get to off I-30, being only seconds away from the interstate.

Cons:

There are multiple basket positions which are usually not visible from tee. The signs provide no indication of basket position and makes the information on the sign useless if you are not familiar with the course or don't scout ahead on most of the holes and there are a lot of tees from which the baskets cannot be seen.

Hole 18, in the short position looks like a really fun hole. In the long position, it was a bit of a slog, especially on a day in which the temp was near 100 degrees.

I'm not a fan of the "island" green on 16, but I also didn't let this factor into my rating because you can lay up and safely get on the green. If you want to go for the putt, you are risking some strokes. It's a little gimmicky, but I have seen far worse. This hole, despite the mandos off the tee, begs for you to throw toward oncoming traffic on your second shot.

The only other criticism that I have of this course is that it approaches garbage dump status with all the trash all over the course. I certainly hope this was only because I played on a holiday weekend, but the course condition note at the time of this writing worries me that it's like this a lot. Just a beautiful views can make a course a bit more fun to play, all the trash can be a downer.

Other Thoughts:

I thoroughly enjoyed this couse, but my round was made longer by the need to scout almost every hole. I'd love to have this as a local course and highly recommend it to any travelers.

Pros:

-Pretty much everything

Cons:

-Pretty much nothing

Other Thoughts:

I know it is a short review, but sometimes when a course is great you just let it be. I'm a newer player, and overweight, so this course really challenged me physically. Can't wait to go back and play it again.

Pros:

Elevation changes abound in this great 18 hole course. Multiple pin positions do make for different shots. Some of my personal favorite holes- Hole 2- great wide open shot that is deceptive, OB road on your right and woods behind the basket - a precise shot is more beneficial than just airing this one out, Hole 3 - low ceiling downhill with a possible skip- definitely aceable but the trees make for some great lines and strategy- pin is on a slope and will make you pay with a long roll out if you miss this putt. Hole 7- one of the very few holes in which a thumber or tomahawk is possibly the best line from the tee- You will want to throw this one multiple times it is very rewarding to throw - as the trees grow it will become harder and harder another rollout on a bad putt and your birdie will become bogie on this hole. Hole 10 has a line to the basket over a stream that snakes through the fairway takes precise placement to get your disc up by the basket from the tee. Hole 16 is really challenging if the basket is on the island- mandos keep discs from going out over the road and trees create real obstacles to airing it out over the creek. Hole 18 favors the longer arms but is pretty taxing for me after playing this course.

Cons:

When there is a lot of wind this course is really difficult- Holes 1,2, 4, will have the wind throw your disc at parked or moving cars, in the street or parking lot. It is a part of this course but you have to play something stable or the wind will turn your disc over and send it into oncoming traffic. Don't park by hole 1's basket.

Other Thoughts:

It is a fantastic course, the design is excellent, and it is really challenging, a good work out and you will use every shot in your bag. Great fun-

Pros:

This is a perfect city park for disc golf. There were very few other park users to contend with, and the elevation changes were big. Every hole has some elevation change, and nearly all of them have some trees to contend with.

The design here was really good. I can't even think of all the great holes, but here are a few:

Hole 7 was one of the shortest holes, but it had three distinct routes to the basket. The forehand route is tight but might get you closest. The hyzer or straight route is easier but requires a tricky uphill skip to get close. And there is a thumber route. The basket sits on a steep hill.

Hole 6 had some great pin placements within the roly poly valleys.

Hole 13 was maybe the best, a downhill huge drive through a gap with a late turn, and then another full throw to the basket uphill. I was pretty pumped to get a 3 on this.

Hole 16 was a blast, a huge downhill bomb. I was a little confused by which basket to use (I think there were two options), but I went to the island green that reminded me of a hole at Mile McIver used in the Beaver State Fling.

Water came into play on a few holes.

The tee signs were old but good, showing the various pin positions and distances.

Navigation was fine, but I'd recommend having the map.

Cons:

Ants! The course is unforgettable, but the ants made double sure I'd never forget this day. Ouch. Be careful where you stand and where you put your bag.

This course will thrill intermediates. It might not challenge top tier players like other courses. There were worse criticisms.

Other Thoughts:

This reminds me of Waterworks and Swope in Kansas City. What a fun course. Not a single hole I didn't enjoy.
