It's Come a Long Way, Baby 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 9, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- You can let it fly on the majority of this course

- The redone course is somewhat terraced so you end up walking from side to side up the hills instead of straight up and down. It's easier on the legs.

- Depending on the time of day, you might be the only one out there (plus for me, anyway).

Cons:

- Some signs still need to be updated. Some tee placements aren't updated when the pins are moved.

- Pavilions next to holes 8, 10, and 11 sometimes have large family gatherings, and the kids are running around on the fairway or right next to the teebox.

- I've seen people grilling out on hole 18 before. Like, on the teebox grilling out.

Other Thoughts:

It's been ages since I logged in this thing but figured if anything I need to update this review since the course redesign is - what - half a year old now?

It has really shaped up to be a decent course. Kudos to the guys who put the time and effort into making it an enjoyable place to play. Two Rivers is now on our weekly rotation after work. It used to be "Do you want to go play Seven Oaks after work today?" Now it's "Do you want to play disc golf after work today? Do you want to play at Two Rivers or Seven Oaks?"

Also, I don't know why, but this is the most wide-open course around and I've lost the most discs here, especially on the back nine. Weird.

Oh, and if you find yourself on hole three looking ALLLLL the way to the right to the basket, you're more than likely looking at hole 4, and the basket for hole 3 is probably behind the tree line directly in front of you. Seen a few people mess that one up.

You've got to admit it's getting better. A little better, all the time. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 8, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

UPDATE!!!!!

A lot of work has been done to the course by a dedicated group of locals and I am happy to say this course is now a great addition to the Nashville Disc Golf Scene.

Lots of nice open room here to drive. The best use of the space available. Every single tree or road that could be used to make the course interesting is used. Most holes have multiple pin placements and are moved regularly. Thursday Doubles round at 5pm. $3 entry.

Cons:

The course has been updated but parts of the old course are left (old teepads) so this can be confusing without a guide. No benches. This course is more about distance than challenge.

Other Thoughts:

I helped work on this course 3 years ago and it makes me feel really good to see the work continuing and the course thriving. It's still far from being a PRO level course but it's a fun city park course near downtown to play if you happen to be in town. It's also connected to Shelby Park via the Greenway so you can technically play Two Rivers anfd Naval Hill if you have a bike and are into it.

Hot and Unorganized 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 4, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

really can't think of any unless you want a killer uphill/downhill workout (in the 95* heat)

Cons:

course poorly organized. tee signs not marked correctly. baskets not marked correctly.

Other Thoughts:

appears that someone decided to rearrange the holes, but forgot to finish the job. after 9 holes we gave up and went somewhere else to play.
As mentioned in another review "I can not recommend this course until the locals take an afternoon to correct the hole numbers, fix the distance signs to only display the used pin position, and convince the park to install benches and garbage cans." TAKE SOME PRIDE IN YOUR COURSE.

Big Hills 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 8, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course will defiantly be remembered for the big hills. It is also pretty open for the most part except for a few mature trees that are scattered around for an occasional obstacle. The course is pretty nice looking with its thick grass and rolling hills. For those living in the Nashville area I am sure it is a welcomed addition to an already diverse choice of courses.

The course has satisfactory concrete tee pads, baskets and signs. There are several pin placements around the course as well. I also noticed a couple of shorter tee pads for those who may interested. The hole lengths vary from some sweet ace runs to a couple of longer hole that will make you work for a three.

There is a walking path the meanders through part of the course and gets some use. Beyond that you'll get the feeling the you have the whole course to yourself. It is a real opportunity to experiment with different shots or unleash your whole bag on the ace runs without worrying about holding other players up during their round.

Cons:

For the most part, there is really only three shot types out here. Uphill, downhill, or the less common across a valley shot. As you might imagine, the course can get a little repetitive.

I wish they would have indicated which pin position was in use. Although the basket is clearly visible it's still hard to figure out exactly how far away they were. The landscape is just so open and hilly that sometimes it is hard to tell. For example, if position A is at 275' and B is at 300' it's hard to tell the difference from the tee.

Other Thoughts:

I had a pretty fun time playing out here even though it's not one of my favorite Nashville courses. Unless you just like open, hilly, and windy courses there are better choices in the area. With that said, if you wind up playing out here it is a pretty solid course. It's good for all types of players of all skills levels. Anyone should have a good time out here. Enjoy!

Confusing but very open - getting better 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 21, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

RECENTLY REDESIGNED (MARCH 2011)
Very wide open. Great place for beginners to let loose and experiment with throws without too many dangers of loosing discs.

The redesign requires far less up and down hill, and more side to side. Holes are designed to make the most of the park, with nice OB forcing certain throws and baskets behind obstacles requiring good approach shots.

No longer have to worry about other park users in new layout.

About 1/3 of the back 9 (the most back corner), and the first 1/3 of the front 9, are the best holes on the course.

Rolling hills, few trees.

Cons:

Baskets and tees confusing could still benefit from additional signage (& I believe that will happen in the coming months)

Other Thoughts:

If you tried this course before, and were frustrated, give it another shot.

Some teepads are still carpet. Full concrete pads coming soon, along with other ameneties. The best holes remain and the rest have been redesigned and given careful consideration.

Thanks to those who put effort into reinventing this course.

Pros:

- good for practicing throws
- nearby water park

Cons:

- almost every hole is uphill or downhill
- many of the holes are numbered incorrectly... someone has gone around putting incorrect number stickers on top of the previous numbers
- seems as though hole 10 is missing entirely
- needs a redesign... or at least renumbering
- due to the "valley" between hills, there seems to be a swamp of sewage running between many holes

Open and hilly 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 8, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course plays through scattered trees in a park mostly devoted to disc golf. There is a walking path, but it seems lightly used, and the playground is never even remotely in play so there isn't much interference from other park users. There's great elevation on nearly every hole, as the course plays up and down a few grassy hillsides.

There's a good mix of lengths from a couple ace run holes to some good long holes that let you really rip it. There are decent concrete tees that were mostly in good shape. The signs were adequate to follow the course and know where to shoot.

The park is a nice setting for a casual round, with good grass and no underbrush. The grass was full with not much mud even after some rain, and was well-mowed.

Cons:

Almost every hole on the course felt pretty much the same. Either you were shooting up a hill or down a hill, and you had to avoid a few scattered trees but otherwise it was just straight shots. There was some variety in length, but too many were in that in between length where most players won't be in range for 2 but there's nothing to punish bad shots and make a 4 at all a risk.

The signs were not in great shape, many were broken or vandalized and one was missing. Many showed multiple pin positions, but there was no marking for which position the basket was currently in. Luckily most of the baskets were visible from the tees, but with the elevation changes it's helpful to know what the distance you're shooting is.

Other Thoughts:

This course is a nice quick open round, with no chance of losing a disc and a good workout with all the hills. It's definitely not the best course in the area, but it's not one to avoid, you can have some fun here.

It's a little too long for most newer players, but otherwise it's beginner friendly. More experienced players will have fun ripping some drives on some fun hills, but there's just not enough variety or difficulty to make this a great course.

Good place to practice 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 13, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Not busy is the biggest pro. I didn't see another player for the first ten holes. This allows for practice on tons of throws. I found myself creating situations allowing for multiple types of shots. I also took multiple drives on many of the holes to really learn what my discs would do. The players I encountered were friendly.

Cons:

Misnumbered teepads and someone stole the basket on hole 9. Print out the map on the site and use that as a guide but it's still not quite right.
I lost a bright orange sidewinder on 18 in the middle of the field, which seems impossible since I looked for over an hour. However, they just mowed for what appeared to be the first time in months and there was clippings galore.

Other Thoughts:

Great place for a beginner to go and learn the behavior of their discs since it is not very busy. Think of this more like a driving range rather than a course since many holes are very similar. Some holes you can rip into it without worry. I just started about two months ago and can throw 300' and shot a 54 here.

Distance Builder 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 18, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Open space for long drives, cut grass, not crowded, bathrooms, free to play.

Cons:

Incorrect signs, tee pad numbers don't match basket numbers, garbage on course (no cans), overlapping holes, no benches.

Other Thoughts:

The hills didn't bother me because I knew that going in, but how hard is it to have the tee pad number match the basket number? After the third hole the next tee is #6 where you throw to basket #4. So it's a brain teaser for the rest of the course. The distance signs show multiple pin positions that don't seem to exist so you have to guess which basket you are aiming at. This challenge is increased by the close proximity of some of the holes. If there are people playing in front of and behind you please bring a helmet!

I liked being able to work on my drive distance and playing 18 was definitly a workout with the hills.

I can not recommend this course until the locals take an afternoon to correct the hole numbers, fix the distance signs to only display the used pin position, and convince the park to install benches and garbage cans.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 27, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Bombs away!
-Pure elevation, no flat holes
-Won't lose a disc
-Water park next door if you get too hot

Cons:

-There are two shots on this course: downhill and uphill
-Signs are confusing, use the map online!
-Extremely repetitive

Other Thoughts:

I've played this course once, and it's fun for a while. All you do is rip drives from one hill to the next. It's satisfying to watch the disc glide seemingly forever.

The biggest problem with this course is the fact that it's located on 3 hills, with trees scattered around. Your first shot will go from hill 2 to hill 1. Then you will shoot from hill 1 to hill 2. Follow this pattern for 9 or 10 holes. Once you have used all available space on hill 1, you will then walk to the other side of hill 2 and use the same pattern with hill 3.

If you want to throw bombs and that is it, play this course. I recommend taking a friend and just throw back and forth on the hills. You'll get the same looks for every hole without the walk.

A place to work on your drives 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 24, 2001 Played the course:once

Pros:

Course has very large hills (moreso that the photos show), a scattering of trees (some very large as well), well-mown grass and no underbrush. So.....

You can really rip some drives. It's not an open field; the gaps are wide but you can miss them, hit trees, and get knocked down. Good practice throwing uphill & downhill, and rollers if you wish. I suspect that on a windy day, this would be a great place to learn how to deal with headwinds, tailwinds, etc.

Very convenient to highways, for travelers passing through Nashville---right at the exit of a beltway-type highway.

Forgiving course for beginners and average players, especially compared to some other area courses.

Cons:

Not terribly challenging for better players.

For travelers to Nashville, there are better choices---Cedar Hill, Seven Oaks, & Sanders Ferry among those I've played.

Other Thoughts:

I last played here in 2001. I know there have been some changes, and I've missed out on the "lost baskets" in other posts, but the general nature seems to be still the same.

Hole Up, Hole Down, 9X 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 14, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Concrete teepads. Multiple pin positions.

Between map online/at course and signs at each tee, this was an easy course for a first-time visitor to navigate.

Practically no chance to lose a disc. Would probably be a good course for glo.

Cons:

Tee pad #10 unmarked - yes, it is the big concrete slab down from #9's basket.

Current pin position not noted at tee sign. Some baskets difficult to see. No benches.

Multi-use park, so may have some non-players to avoid.

Trash - two full cans at #1 and #18, no other cans but plenty of trash elsewhere - Miller Lite seems to be the beverage of choice. :)

Other Thoughts:

If your idea of fun disc golf is gripping-n-ripping up-and-down mostly open/scattered tree hills, having multiple birdie but few bogeys opportunities, typically only having to contend with 1~2 large trees enroute or near the basket, then this is definitely the course for you!

Want a good cardio workout? Go play this course on a hot-n-humid summer's day.

Good simple course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 14, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a nice course for anyone to try. According to other links, all the pars are 3 accept for hole 3 which is a par 5. They are all very possibly to par out on each one.

This is a very hilly course so make sure to be in good shape! I really liked how it was wide open which allowed you to really drive the disc as far as you can. It's really fun how on some holes you have to go straight up a hole while others you get to drive down a steep hill.

Cons:

None of the signs had the pars listed on the sign so I just played it like other reviewers did. Hole 10 didn't even have a sign which was very weird. Sometimes it can be a little difficult to find the basket but overall it's not bad.

Another con I forgot to add is that you could say this course isn't very well maintained. I saw at least two baskets with two beer cans in each along with some teepads having alcohol bottles right next to them.

Other Thoughts:

A very fun course if you want to get a good workout :)

Playing in the Rain 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 29, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is an very good course for those developing the ability to drive and putt up and down hill. This course does a good job of using the natural terrain to create challenging but playable shots. I happened to play while it was raining and with occasional wind gusts, but if you are in the valley on the front nine the wind has little effect on disc flight.

Cons:

There are not very many cons about the course. If you are not a seasoned disc golfer you many not be able to initially identify the a basket or two. And at the time I played the course 10 did not have a sign.

Other Thoughts:

Aside from the rain it was a good overall experience. Be prepared to walk up and down hill repeatedly as you go from hole to hole. The course map on this site has the most recent hole placements and was very useful.

Good day at the park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 16, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course as good length and is superb for throwing rollers. Two Rivers Park is situated on 3 rolling hills, with most shots playing uphill or downhill.

The best thing about this course is also the worst thing about the course. It is fairly wide open and provides lots of opportunities to rip a drive.

For the most part, the baskets are very well placed. Many of the baskets are perched next to drop offs or are protected by trees. Out of bounds comes into play on several holes.

Cons:

This course would be more interesting if there was some more foliage or other obstacles. The wind can also be a real problem on some days.

Not a course I would recommend for advanced players wanting a challenge.

Other Thoughts:

This course is great for people learning the game. There are enough obstacles to make it interesting, but it is definitely not daunting. I have taken friends to this course for a casual round and they all enjoyed it.

For someone planning on making a trip to Nashville to play some great courses, I would skip this one. Seven Oaks, Cedar Hill and Sharp Springs are the ones to play if you are in the area.

Disappointing 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 27, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Laid out very nicely to take advantage of terrain. Walking path interferes with course minimally. Informative Tee signs. Multiple pin positions listed for all holes. Concrete Pads. Baskets that were there were in good shape.

Cons:

A lot of baskets missing -- # 1 - # 4, # 17, # 12, # 16 -- those are the ones I remember. Signs did not seem to indicate which position the pins were in.

Note added 6-19-09 about missing baskets: Based on the fact that other reviews since I posted this one do not mention this as an issue, it seems that the baskets were only removed temporarily and they may be back in place. See my "OTHER THOUGHTS" section for more info regarding this issue. If I go back and play this course again and the baskets are back, I will adjust my rating accordingly. However, the "2 Disc" rating reflects the condition of the course at the time I played it.

Other Thoughts:

If the missing baskets had been present, this would easily have been a 3 or 3.5 review. What was really disappointing is that I tried to introduce my brother-in-law to disc golf today, and it was hard to get a rhythm going as we tried to figure out which pin location we were throwing to, and if the basket was there for that hole.
