Pros:
- 18 holes
- Mix of open and wooded holes
- Elevation Shots
- Course doesn't seem to interfere with other park attractions
- Ace Runs!
- Work the Mids/Fairways
- Great Beginner/Intermediate Course
- Wooded holes are not disc eaters
- DisCatcher Pro 28s very visible
Cons:
- No tee signs / Map (Yet?)
- Tee Pads uneven
- Single Tee Option (Red)
- Few long walks (Limited by shape/space)
- Favors RHBH
- Although holes look unique, many distances and fairway angles are really similar
- Some putting greens not really brushed (I like trees and branches around the basket, but not weeds, grass and brush 5 feet off the pin)
Other Thoughts:
Always exciting to see an 18 hole course.
There is only a Red tee box option, so this course was designed for the Beginner/Intermediate Player. That said, this course accomplishes it's mission.
Opening holes are wide open, great warm up on the initial holes. Ace opportunities across the board throughout the course.
There's a walk from 5 to 6, and back to parking lot from 18 due to space and design limitations. There's a path coming off hole 5 and traffic will wear in a trail. Some directional signs on many holes would be a big help for first time players.
Holes 8-11, 14-16 are "wooded" holes, and was happy to see the area has been cleared/brushed pretty well. Hole 5 is the first "wooded" hole, with very thick woods to the left, and if the woods are brushed out it would be much less aggravating for those (other people) going in there. All other holes are open underneath and with traffic and maintenance, you should not be afraid to lose discs on the "wooded" holes.
There are no Tee Signs/Course Map, which for me is a big strike. This is a new course at the time of this review, so I will be happy to edit the review and possibly the rating depending on further improvements. Having designed and built courses, this review is trying to take into account for this course maturing and cleaning up over time.
Tee Boxes are baseball infield dirt, which compacts well, but also ruts out and gets uneven. They were already uneven when I played - these will need to be maintained/scraped/leveled and then they may be OK. (If you decide to put in "white" tees, let me know! This could attract more intermediate/advanced players and I've already seen some good potential lines)
There are a lot of straight, and slight right to left holes, with just a couple slight left to right. This favors the RHBH player. Found myself reaching for the Buzzz a lot, however this is a Red course.
There are a few holes that demand a shot shape to be executed, I think with varying success. Hole 11, 14, 15 very memorable and do well at this. Hole 16 in particular, doesn't know yet what it wants to be when it grows up. Given no real lanes, it's a luck shot.
Hole 18 finally you can pull out the big driver and let it rip, and it's a fun one. Two wide lanes with a row of large trees down the middle. 400'+ leaving an approach shot of some sort for most players, where as most other holes are just driving to the basket.
Overall, it is a Red level course and does well for that level. I found myself wanting to see a different line (hard curve right or left maybe) and wanting to throw a few driver holes. Good course to work the Mids and Fairway drivers. I will be coming back because there are lines I want to hit, and aces I want to hit!
