Holt says in the video that he wasn't paid, but that Idio provided the shoes for him to test. So it seems like a normal brand/influencer exchange of free product for channel exposure.
The Trash Panda video was more like an informercial so I have little confidence in that review.
For the last 2 years I've been playing in La Sportiva Boulder X approach shoes and wont hesitate to buy another pair if/when these finally wear out.
The shoe is an all leather upper with a Vibram and climbing rubber sole which makes them solid even when the pads get a bit wet and slippery.
Even with the shipping to Oklahoma the most expensive one is still 50% off buying them from a retailer. I will keep an eye on these today and might try to grab one.
I use climbers chalk, more for humidity than rain around here but it works great and you can get a chalk ball for $3 at most climbing/outdoor stores.
I didn't buy it specifically for DG but I have it laying around with climbing gear so it's always been cheap and convenient.
I am not entering the contest but this is an excellent idea. Something easy for TD to organize by just ordering the number of player packs needed and including the prizes like the Trilogy challenge.
