Greystone Woods - Morris Plains, NJ

All, We have made quite a few upgrades to the course this past year including improved fairways, tees, and selective mowing for the fields. I would like to welcome everyone to come out our first PDGA sanctioned c-tier event on September 27. All three sets of tees will be used for the various...

Junior Tees UPDATE: I am happy to announce we finally were able to mark all of the red tees (aka junior tees). Look for the slim red painted pvc pipes. A few of the tees will be changing here or there and some of the tee pads will need construction. But they are ready for play. Besides...

New Course soon in New Jersey, Thompson park

For anyone interested...This course played really nicely for the fundraiser tourney. It is in a beautiful park setting that is mostly open and allows the player to let quite a few drives rip. The layout we played strategically uses the tall groupings of trees and the nice elevation changes...

Greystone Woods - Morris Plains, NJ

Rocaholic74, Thanks for coming to check out the course and I am glad you enjoyed it. Even though it is still pretty rough, I think it plays pretty well especially for a new woods course. We have tried to use many of the best design concepts from many of the places you have mentioned as well as...

    Fairway Cross "Bunker" Hazard

I have heard a lot of good success from a 20-25 foot wide stripe angled diagonally across the fairway. The player then can choose and commit to go for it long or short or layup long or short. This way you really get a lot of bang for your buck and extend the risk of the hazard much further...

How many blind par 3's are too many on an 18 hole layout?

Tyler State park have come up with an awesome spinning marker on the tee signs that have A, B, and C. Which ever letter is up is the current pin setting. Could someone post a pic of their tee signs for me showing the tee marker? This concept should be used much more often at other courses.

How many blind par 3's are too many on an 18 hole layout?

I noticed you prefaced the original question with blind par 3's. I is almost impossible to not have blind par 4's or 5's without it being a completely open course. That being said I agree with DavidSauls... Try every way possible to eliminate blind shots that promote the lost disc factor...

wildlife We will have plenty of opportunity over the fall and winter to help out with projects. Please check out the FB page for all of the updates on workdays and approved side projects for anyone to do. A huge and simple help would be to collect any trash you might find along the way. It...

Greystone Woods - Morris Plains, NJ

Update...At this point we have crushed stone tee pads on almost all the tee pads. All of the holes and tee pads are playable. We have cut out a lot of the rough. The bridge across the dam on hole 10 has been reconstructed and is now open for use. I may not be saying much but the course is...

Greystone Woods - Morris Plains, NJ

We will most likely add some shorter tees before too long. I can't promise they would be sturdy built up tee boxes and probably will not be much more than just flags. The concept of the junior tees for the experienced players offers an ace run or sudo par 2 layout. It could be a lot of fun or...

Greystone Woods - Morris Plains, NJ

We have always had it in mind to add the junior tees but we are not that far into the installation process. And so far we have been swamped with just getting the basic elements completed. What we could do for the interim is mark the junior tees with flags. I am guessing that the distances for...

Greystone Woods - Morris Plains, NJ

Hobbiton...I love it! We should definitely put a round door in the side of the hill that you walk by after playing hole 4. Maybe we could do little smoke stacks for the tees instead of the wood blocks. Soon some of the old growth trees might start looking like treebeard and the Ents. The huge...
