More tips and pics
I finally got out today and a few more things came to mind to share. In the beginning we would bring shovels and meticulously clean off the tee pads every time we played. It wasn't long before we figured out how pointless that was. We were spending way more time cleaning off...
7 Years of snowshoe disc golf at Haybro Redtail DGC
Steamboat Springs Colorado likes to call itself Ski Town USA. Haybro Redtail DGC, near Steamboat, is on its 7th season of snowshoe disc golf including the 7th annual round new years day round which is always a big hit for everyone that comes...
5.00 star(s)
Redtail moves to year 5
1) Infringement - much effort has gone into giving each card on the course as much privacy and ownership of the hole that they are playing by taking advantage of the huge amount of space available, as well as vegetation and terrain to give a private feeling to every hole...
My house (Emerald City) and guest house are next to the Haybro Redtail DGC and putting park in Steamboat Springs Colorado, which is also my course. I rent the guest house and part of the main house during the busy ski and summer tourist seasons, but it's fairly quiet during spring and fall...
I think I could write a book on Snow Shoe Disc Golf
We stopped shoveling the tee pads partway into the first season 3 years ago. It's not unusual to get more than 20' of snow here in a given winter - shoveling is so much work and driving without a runup is not that bad while it also improves...
'non golfer' grounds keepers
Redtail has better non golfers then others mentioned here, (about 50 or so) and they do a fair bit of grounds keeping. They sometimes leave a mark but it dries fast in this climate so you know you are having real bad luck when your disc lands in a fresh one. They...
A quick route to more courses and introducing people to the sport, but at a cost
I too fall into the camp of those that am turned off by disc golf courses at ski resorts and for a couple reasons, none of which have to do with elevation changes, which I think is a core technical and physical...
Solar Eclipse w/Basket on 5 at Haybro
Note the lens flare at the base and to the right of the basket, which is from the eclipse at it's peak at Haybro Redtail DGC.
Mandatory Eclipse Picture at Haybro
Solar Eclipse at Haybro Redtail DGC in Steamboat Springs CO. It's the best I could do as an amateur with no gear to speak of.
The grass and brush is growing like mad now - if we don't have all hands on deck running mowers and brush cutters (which amounts to 2 pairs spread very thin) the course will get ripped by people that are frustrated because discs are too hard to find. We have to be careful to choose our battles...
Nope, new people typically folded the fee up in their signed waiver or dropped it in alone. I had assumed people coming back would drop a fiver in and go tee off. Once these envelopes are gone I'll probably get ones with a tear off stub or something that people can take with them.
I've learned a great deal in 4 years as a private course owner. I'm always glad to help others out and have seen quite a bit. That being said, one thing I still struggle with a great deal is getting people to review the course, much less updating out of date reviews. Sadly the traffic on the...
