No love for Dry Creek 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 2, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- A full 18 hole course.
- Restrooms on site.
- Water on site
- Ample parking
- Soccer fields for warming up on
- Water in play on back 9

Cons:

- No course map. The downloadable map is accurate
- No tee markers
- No shade = a hot round. Play early or late
- Front 9 is busy with mountain biking kids
- small, rutted tee boxes
- Lots of yapping prairie dogs

Other Thoughts:

Dry Creek DGC is an open-space park. The park isn't irrigated so it's just dirt and weeds throughout, with a winding creek running through the back 9. The front 9 is overgrown most of the time with weeds coming up through the baskets

Navigation is very tough here even with a map. There are no tee signs or markers, and many of the tees are overgrown so it's hard to spot them. They do have the tee number though.

The back 9 has a small, winding creek running through it, and the baskets are well placed throughout using outcroppings in the creek as the greens. It's a fun challenge if it's not overgrown and really tests your distance and ground control.

The front 9 has a lot of mountain bike trails running throughout, with a lot of kids riding. I've always had to skip 1 or 2 holes here because of safety concerns. It's more popular as an MTB park than a disc course.

My final thoughts are this course is really no fun to be on. The back 9 has some potential with the creek, but mostly I just don't like being here. I'm hoping with the housing development projects finished, Longmont will make this more of a park, and not just a hot, dry field but for now, I don't think the city cares much for Dry Creek.

Slowly eroding 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 13, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Lots of space to throw how you want with plenty of long holes to work on your drives. Very forgiving with barely any obstacles and no trees.

Cons:

Construction on the course took out two tees and made one of the pins unreachable without a little trespassing. No signage for the whole course making it very difficult to find hole 7 & 8 (the only cement and reasonably sized tees). The arrows on tee 8 are backwards and both 7 & 8 cross a running path. Creek is running deep and fast this spring and runs pretty close to 8, 9, 10, and 14-17. The river runs right in front of the 11th tee and they recently took out most of the bridges you have to hike backwards a bit to the only remaining bridge if the creek is too wide for you to jump. The entire course is super exposed so when it's windy this course can be absolute torture.

Other Thoughts:

Plenty of potential but it looks like this course might be fading away if they don't update it after construction near the back half is done.

Prairie Dog Patch 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 24, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

18 holes, with a good mix of short and long par 3's. Hole 5 signature hole throwing from the top of the hill towards the Rockies. Mach 3 baskets nice, has rest room, and other park amenities.

Cons:

No signage, navigated holes 1-6, could not find 7. Next found and played hole nine, then jumped around, never found all the holes. The tee pads are too short, and the crushed stone is too loose. Some holes have the creek winding through them but it is hard to tell where there is creek vs prairie, so easy to end up in the creek. 18 holes, but actually, 100's of holes. The course is a prairie dog patch, worried about hitting them, or stepping in holes. A cycle cross course winds through the same area so if there is bike traffic you will wait to throw.

Other Thoughts:

We called the City of Longmont to find out if the signs were up, because they said end of October. But no one knew anything. Obviously maintaining this is not a priority.

Work In Progress 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 14, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Easy to find, right by the Altona Middle School parking lot
-Lots of wide open space that can/should be developed

Cons:

This is a relatively new course that was established some time last year, 2015. As of April 2016 they have gravel tee pads mostly marked with short orange flags on the ground with the current hole number written on them. There is no map though on site. I did not realize there was a map until I looked further on this page. I highly recommend referencing it prior to going out.
The course treks over a lot of scraggly small bushes and dry grass. The creek that runs through the back 9 is a little tricky to navigate and it also smells horrible. There is a lot of new housing being built nearby and the trash from that has spread unfortunately.

Other Thoughts:

This course has a lot of potential. I would love to see the grass cut, and the land developed a little more. Also not having construction trash floating around the creek would be nice. I plan on coming back in a year or two, but right now the course needs a lot of work.
