Go hiking and then play this course

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 3, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Hey, I'm only rating it 2 stars, but this is a fun little course. If it were 18 holes and some more of the wooded area was used it could easily be a 3.5.

Landscaping was borderline immaculate. Well cut grass and a beautiful spot. All the baskets were in great shape as well.

Nothing super challenging here, but there is enough variety in the way of trees, elevation and throwing over a pond.

This was the perfect course to play with my fiancee who is a casual golfer. I enjoy courses that give us both the opportunity to play.

Cons:

As noted, the teepads are a mix of sand a river stone. Didn't bother me a lot because none of the shots were long enough to require a big run-up.

No course map that I could find, and there seemed to be two tees marked as #1. No matter where you start it's pretty easy to follow the flow of the course.

Not super challenging, but I feel this course was installed to introduce people to the game.

Other Thoughts:

This area of Tennessee is spectacular. I visit this area every year to hike Fiery Gizzard or Savage Gulf. This course is a great warm-up or cool-down between hikes.

A Fine Addition to a Campground 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 16, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Baggenstoss Farms is a nice little 9-hole course that offers diversion to campers and residents of Tracy City.

-Barebones Basics: Natural tees are marked with spacious wooden frames. Dynamic Discs Patriot baskets appear to be solid.

-Terrain and Elevation: Gently rolling hills slowly blend into a tree line to create a lightly wooded and multi-sloped strip to play disc golf on. The beauty is also good. All in all, a very pleasant setup.

-Shot Shaping/Gameplay: Interesting, but not much more. By my estimation, holes range from 200 to 330 feet. The smattering of trees is used quite well to force some minimal shaping--a slightly guarded basket on (1), some danger to the right on (3), a hyzer on (4), a low ceiling on (5). You'll also have to put slopes into the shot choice calculation, and an OB path prominent on (6). Most entertaining is a 180(?)-foot water carry to close things out on (9). Difficulty is rec level or low intermediate.

-Navigation: Even without tee signs or cues, navigation was easy except for the (5)-(6) region, which I figured out without too much difficulty. The course plays down the edge of the woods then back, with the last hole out front over the pond.

-Maintenance: On my appearance the grounds crew was trimming already-short grass to a pristine shine. No debris around either. My impression is that the proprietors of this site care quite a lot about all aspects of their property.

-Beginner Friendly: Great place for those new or almost new to the sport to enjoy a round.

Cons:

-Lack of Challenge: Largely due to the length, there isn't much here to challenge a good intermediate or advanced player. This upper rec player took 4 birdies and blew two more.

-Lack of Signage: I had to ask the check-in desk for a course map, and the one they provided was a very small draft map of the entire property--which was adequate except for the (5)-(6) transition, which could use a next tee sign. I think barebones hole # and distance tee signs are called for as well. Furthermore, the baskets would benefit from numbers. (I'd at least like to know what hole and basket I'm looking at without having to guess.)

-Tee (5): Is facing about 90° away from the basket. I do sincerely hope they fix that soon, as it currently faces straight towards basket (6), which is just 100 feet away.

-Design: I think they've left a bit on the table. Seems to me that there's room for holes (5) and (6) to stretch out a little and create exciting variety, maybe even making one a par-4 if the slope and trees were used well.

Other Thoughts:

I think this is a great casual little course that enhances the campground. There was just enough to keep me interested for all 9 holes between the elevation, the trees, the scenic fields, and the water carry. Tee signs would be a major help, and I'd like to see one or two longer holes. This course is every bit "Reasonable," and with dedicated improvement could easily be "Typical"--which is pretty great for anyone camping their RV around.
