Bridgewater College has a nice little 9-hole layout. The few decents holes are overshadowed by an illogical layout.
- This is a wide-open nine-hole course that lets players throw loose and fast. From memory, I can picture three trees that come into play. My math tells me that's not a good ratio. If you want to practice throwing, this is your spot.
- Hole #1 is a decent multi-shot beginning to the course. At 522 feet, it starts wide open and ends with a basket nearing one of the trees. #2 is a mid-range, 236-foot uphill shot. Be aggressive here because anything long will land softly just past the basket.
- #3 is the best laid-out hole, along with being the most scenic. You tee off over the edge of the pond, throwing to a basket behind the course's second tree. Unless your shot sails to the right, the water should never be an issue. Trivia question: which hole has the course's third tree?
- #4 continue away from the campus, playing out in a field. #5 plays across the back of said field, offering one of the other distinguishable hole layouts. #6 begins your walk back, and offers a little more elevation factor.
- If you like walking, you'll love this layout. You get some long walks between holes, mainly from #6 to 7, and again from #8 to 9 to the parking lot.

The layout is mediocre at best. There isn't a shortage of space. It's simply poor planning.
- After finishing #6, you then walk backwards alongside holes #3, then #2, to get to #7. To top it off, when I played, #7's basket was missing, so I also got to walk the length of #1. Walking past 3 straight holes before getting to my next tee isn't the best use of space.
- Then, #8 & 9 are backwards. #8's basket is next to the parking lot...meaning it should be the final basket. Instead, you play to a basket close to your car, then turn around, play the final hole, then turn BACK around and once again walk #8's hole a second time. Did nobody else notice this?
- Two simple solutions fix this all. Remove one of the existing holes, probably #4, and add a hole that plays along the other side of the pond. That cuts down on the long walk. Then simply flip #8 & 9 and eliminate the redundant walk.
- There's no variety to this course. This isn't the fault of the course designers. It's a simple reality of having your course play in an open field.

Bridgewater College is a course with one good hole (#3), three others that are slightly different (#2, 5 & 6), and then there's the rest.
- Here's the answer to the trivia question. The third tree is on #9. And yes, there are several other trees near the course.
- This is a pleasant looking small college. The college is built right along the road after several miles of open fields. Just drive past the Burger King and you'll drive onto the campus.
- The good news is that the first thing you see on the campus is the disc golf course to the right. So, there's that.
- The course was as generic as you can get. Not a single great hole. Not a single horrible hole. It looks like someone looked at the map, drew 9 straight lines and realized they just designed a disc golf course. It's safe to say what isn't a major at this school.
- I had to convince myself to make a right at the stop light to turn towards the course instead of making a left for the interstate. Still not sure if I made the correct decision. At least it's one more course I've played.

The course is located on a beautiful plot of land near the entrance of campus and near a nice housing development.

The baskets are top of the line DISCatchers and are in great shape.

There are tee signs for each hole and indicators on the ground marking the tee.

Honestly the beauty of the place is what the course has going for it the most. I really enjoyed my time on the property probably more so than playing the course. There is a nice pond that comes into play on a few holes with a fountain.

OPEN. Too open. I think there are only 4-5 trees that even remotely come in play, but at the most they might only force a straddle putt. From short/medium to long, you'll be bombing drives in an open field.

The tees are natural and are muddy. Most of the fairways are soggy and you'll get a little wet unless there has been a drought.

There was a drainage "creek" that was too large to jump when I was there. It prevented you from walking directly to the basket on holes 1 and 9.

I'm not sure what the rest of campus looks like, but as beautiful as this piece of land is, I bet there is some better disc golf land that could have been used.

You'll likely enjoy your time admiring the houses and land, but that may be it. Golf is a little simple here, but unlike most simple 9-holers, it will let you bomb some drivers, even for the really big arms. (2 holes near 500ft).

Nice concrete pads, a few bridges and some more creativity and this course could be a lot better. As it stands, it's a touch below average.

I gave it 3 stars for one reason, after playing Westover Park you should come here and play 9 wide open holes where you can just let it go. It took me about an hour to play the course.

It's like a great field practice round on testing out your distance throwing accuracy.

For the layout of the land it's put on it was done about as well as it could be.

The natural tees were okay and the tee signs were nice considering the course.

It could get boring but it's only 9 holes and by that time you are finished. On a hot sunny day there is not much shade so you will feel the heat on this long walk.

The long walk from 6 to 7 is kind of a pain.

The layout of 8 & 9 and the basket placements do not make sense.

This course is about as good as can be built on the land available. (8 & 9 need to be redone)

Just bring you longest driver and a putter for this course.

Side note: As we were finishing up there was a security type person in the distance checking us out. But they never bothered us just making sure we weren't up to no good. But that's another post.

If you like your courses tight ...

Course plays in a counter-clockwise fashion in the wide open space at the front of a small college campus. What elevation is available is used - about half the holes have some elevation change, about half the holes are perfectly flat. Minimal obstacles - a tree or two near a few baskets.

With 2/3rds of the holes in the 200'~300' range, there should be some birdy opportunities, while the other three holes will avail you the opportunity to crush your favourite distance driver.

Teesigns have been installed. Natural tee locations denoted by red-n-white in-ground blocks. From tee-1, the most obvious basket, straight ahead, is number-7 - basket-1 is to the right, near the intersection. Bit of a walk from basket-6 to tee-7.

If you like your courses open, give it a try. If you like your courses tight, you won't find it here.

-Proximity to Campus (exposure to the sport for students/community)
-Good variety, given the land
-Hole #4 plays over a pond which makes for a really pretty hole.
-Can be played in under an hour
-The course plays mostly in maintained grass so little chance of losing plastic
-maintained by the College

-Long walk between holes #6 and #7
-AS OF NOW: No Tee signs, Course Sign, or Tee pads.

As is noted in the description of the course, the tee signs, course sign and tee pads have either been ordered or are currently in the process of being ordered. While, the course may not be a "destination course," it does make for a fun and relatively quick 9 hole round on a college campus and is less than 5 minutes off of interstate 81.

If you are in the Harrisonburg area it is certainly worth a trip over to Bridgewater.

-high visibility for the student body, I can't imagine any Bridgewater students not at least knowing what disc golf is by the time they graduate thanks to this course.
-it's in a field, therefore mowed, hard to lose a disc.
-Nice place for a quick lunchtime round or a good place to bring beginners.
-Everything is wide open so it's a good course to bring a stack of drivers too and practice as you play. Better then boring old field work.

-The tee pads are listed as "rubber mats," and maybe these are still in the works, but at of 10/16/11 it's still grass tee pads. Most of the pads are fine though with the exception of #5 which is on very uneven ground.
-Being in a field there is very little variety. The two par 4s are simply 500 ft holes, and it'd be hard to imagine a decent player with a 250 ft drive picking up any bogey's on the par 3s.
-Holes 2-6 play through a drainage field for the surrounding neighborhood. The area is always wet as far as I can tell and going from hole 4 to 5 and walking the fairway on hole 5 you are forced to walk through the wettest parts.
-I think the College was concerned about discs ending up in the pond, so the tee pad placement on hole 3, which could have been a nice drive over the water barely utilizes it.
-tee pad 7 is far away from the 6th basket and it might be confusing if you're not familiar.

-I think course like this are great additions to the sport and to the local disc golf community. Every course can't be located on tens of acres of country side and if there's an opportunity to add a course anywhere I'm glad people take the time to get it done. That being said, the landscape available just wasn't varied enough for any designer to do much with. Elevation and trees are used when every possible at BWC but there aren't much of either and the course doesn't offer much variety as a result.
-If you're travelling/visiting I would skip this course and go to Westover Park (Harrisonburg), Kiwanis DGC (Staunton), or Greene County Community Park.
