Pros:

Camera Park DGC is your typical Chicago niner. The course wraps around a mostly open park with a little bit of elevation toward the beginning section of the course. Not much, but not totally flat either. There are a few trees that can come into play on a few holes too. Again, not many, but not totally wide open.

The tee pads are pretty good here. Nice sized and poured level with good traction to them. More than serviceable for a nine like this. One tee per hole.

The signs are pretty solid too. They feature a basic overhead hole map, hole #, par and distance. They also show any other holes that fit onto the hole map. Many times this is the next hole, so it's almost like a next tee arrow. There's also a QR code on each sign. I didn't use these but these are becoming a more popular thing nowadays.

The course is pretty open for the most part so winds can pick up pretty good out here. This will be the main challenge on this course.

The baskets are Discatchers which are all nice and shiny. These caught great and really pop out. Zero issues with these. One basket and pin position per hole.

The course was in phenomenal shape when we played it. Very clean, freshly mowed and not crowded. Baskets in the ground yearround and free to play.

Cons:

Too open for my tastes. They did incorporate some trees where possible, but most of the course is just wide open nothingness. Very repetitive feeling in a hurry.

A few of the holes play pretty close to the walking path that meanders through the park. Shouldn't be too much of an issue but you may have to wait on walkers/joggers at times.

Other Thoughts:

Typical Chicago nine. It's a quick play if you decide to play it. There's just nothing memorable about this course, or exciting. No signature kind of hole, not even an elevated basket or something.

Not a bad course per se. Play it if you must. There are better options in the area though. If there were a few more trees I'd probably bump it up to a 2 but that's as high as I could go with this one. 1.5 seems about right, even with the nice equipment. Meh.

Typical 2+ years drive by

Pros:

Great flow from basket to next tee box. Great for practice for experience players to not to challenging for beginners. Nice elevation throughout park.

Cons:

Could use some obstacles to add challenge. Could imagine park gets busy when weather is nicer.

Other Thoughts:

Made the mistake of playing with 15+ mph gusts. Since course is fairly open, plan accordingly when winds are really high.

A Very Basic Municipal Park Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 7, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

- relatively clean and well mowed park
- brand new Innova DISCatcher baskets
- good size concrete tees
- some limited elevation change incorporated

Cons:

- no navigation aides at all, and wide open park lacks some directionality
- no tee signs/tee markers
- walk between 1 and 2 is unnecessarily long
- several holes very close to walking path, particularly basket for 8
- course ends a decent ways from hole 1
- very limited obstacles/almost entirely wide open
- not much in the way of amenities: no practice basket, garbage cans, benches, etc.

Other Thoughts:

This is a very new course and is pretty typical for a Chicago area suburban park. My hope is they are still updating it a bit and we'll see some tee signs and navigation aides, as right now it's a bit tough to navigate. Thankfully DGCourseReview has a map, because 1 and 2 have a huge retention area between them that isn't exactly obvious. I think this could have been designed a bit better.

The course seriously lacks challenge, although the tees and baskets are nice enough. It's serviceable for working on some things or for beginners, but will be pretty boring for even intermediate players. The only hole I felt had some real obstacles, hole 8, has you throw between 2 pine trees for a straight shot at the basket - but even then, it's only 142 ft. I think I landed within 10 feet of the basket, so it was still pretty simple.

The minimal elevation change here is well incorporated, though I wish the 9th hole ended a bit closer to the start. I kind of feel like this course was just put here to say the town had a course, and this was the land that was available. It isn't particularly well suited to disc golf. As a previous reviewer mentioned, the walking path hazards are a major concern. If the park is busy, you may either be waiting long times to throw or seriously risking hitting someone.

All that said, it's an ok place to get in a quick round. Unless I lived within 10 minutes or so, I wouldn't go out of my way to return.

Beginner/Intermediate

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 21, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Course is set in a good-sized park, that has various fields and a walking path about. Definitely the possibility for some park user interference on a nice day.
- Decent length for a suburban Chicago course, with a few holes right around 300'.
- Three of the holes here have a tree or two in play, so some basic line shaping is helpful in those spots.
- Some very slight elevation changes, like an uphill fairway on #2. Holes #5 and #6 also have a slope on the right side to some fields; an errant drive would require an uphill approach shot.
- Great pads and baskets.

Cons:

- Lots of open shots that don't require any specific line. #1, #2, #4, #8, and #9 have literally no trees to worry about. The shots that do have trees are very short unfortunately.
- The biggest hazard here is the walking/running path that snakes next to most holes. Definitely could see some long waits in many spots. Also, I think #2's teepad is in the circle of #1's basket...

Other Thoughts:

- Overall, not a bad course at all. It has some long enough holes to challenge people who have been around the block a few times, and multiple ace runs. Perfect for people who have played a few times at Horizon Park down the road and are ready to make the step up!
- I uploaded photos and a map before tee signs were installed, but I would be surprised if the hole numbers aren't correct. If I was wrong, let the mods know to fix them!
