Central location, yet an island in a mostly natural state. Lots of natural obstacles in stands of various trees and brush, logs and a marsh backing hole 9. All holes have signage, although in several cases distance is no longer accurate. Some holes have rubber tee pads, others dirt. Disc golfers are your primary fellow park users thus navigation - while leaving a few awkward gaps - is easily asked when the primary signage isn't clear. There are chances to use an array of shots and the unforgiving rough in many cases forces technical approaches. Fairways (where not permanently trodden down) are occasionally mowed and look inviting.

Lots of cons unfortunately, but not deal breakers. As above, several dirt tees, some of which (8 comes to mind) never seem dry. Baskets in some cases are loose and can and do tip over (8, 2 for sure). Park is a refuge for homeless, albeit in small numbers. It can be said however they are the clean-up crew for the beverage containers lazier golfers leave behind. On nice summer days, other park users - mostly cyclists - can slow play. Mosquitoes in season can deter even the hardiest of souls, thankfully this occurs infrequently during a short period. Errant shots can be lost to the natural rough fairly easily, especially on 9.

Central Calgary location, accessible by transit with short walk or by rear zoo parking lot - note the lot closes by mid October until April and parking may not be readily available during the winter. If one is careful, the bike path either from the base of the park side of memorial bridge or from inside the parking lot entrance is wide enough to allow a vehicle to enter the parking lot around the chains. It really doesn't seem fair that the zoo shuts down the only place to park for park users.

'Alternate' tee locations (in the form of worn areas) in some cases exist due in part to a partial change-over to an 18 hole course which reverted back to 9 several years ago.

Authorities occasionally walk the park, this is generally a positive. I suggest that one respects this possibility by being discreet with public consumption, consider a koozy or the like.

A surprising amount of wildlife frequents the park from simple mice and squirrels to bats and owls. Have also witnessed deer. On the plant side many wildflowers decorate the landscape throughout the season including Blanket and Cone flowers, Daisies and Goldenrod.

Very good layout with a good mixture of shots. Half the holes are pretty easy while the other half have some challenge to them. Holes #3, 7 and 9 are my faves.

Nice to have a course so centrally located with good pathway and C-Train access (you see alot of guys bike to the course for a round). On a hot summers day it can actually be a pretty nice park with lots of shade.

This park is full of very sketchy characters, especially during the evenings and weekdays. You would be best off coming here on a weekend when the park is busier...and dont come alone!

The course gets pretty busy in the summer, easily the busiest in Calgary, so you may end up waiting on a few tee boxes.

Its only 9 holes which is a drag, and theres not much potential for creating alternate layouts.

Depending on the time of year it can be hard to find your disc in the long grass and thick brush.

The signage is not great, a newbie would find the layout a bit confusing their first time there. Many of the signs have incorrect distances since the layout has been changed.

I actually really like the course itself, but all of the sketchy characters around are enough to steer me away most days. I'd rather make the drive down to Park 96.

I was in Calgary for a couple of days and found myself with a few hours to spare, so I decided to play this course. Course designers picked a great location for a course! The really utilized the space that the island provides, and have spaced the holes out great. The first hole starts a little ways from the parking lot, but hole 9 finishes right by it. Although this is a walking and biking park, that usually doesn't interfere with your round. Even thought this is a city park, it doesn't have that feel. On many holes, it really feels like you are in the bush. The have utilized the trees that are there, many small-medium sized, but also many large mature trees. For being a 9 hole course the length is average, but I think that has more to do with the capacity of the island. There is a preferred flight path to each hole, but there are more than one flight path to all of the holes. The baskets are well marked and once you find the tees, you know what basket you're aiming at. There is a very large sign by hole 1, which has the disc golf rules, and large course map. With more visits, the map would become more easy to remember.

Unfortunately most of what I didn't like about this course is just due to the limited size of the island it is located on. There are no dual tees or baskets, and would be difficult to add later due to space. Although I think this has been remedied, when I played the course, there were no tee signs, just a rubber mat for hole 1. It also helped to have the course map at #1. There is a lot of thru traffic and not a lot of people other than disc golfers that stay at the park for any length of time. Normally that would be a good thing, but I think that lends to more vandalism at this park, which was why there were no tee signs. Most of the holes had a post at the tee, which was just dirt. I think there were supposed to be rubber mats at all the tees, but only hole one had it. From looking at pictures more recently, it looks like signs have now been added. No signs on a course are my biggest aggravation. There were a few tees that were becoming worn, but it looks like the locals take care of the course and occasionally fix the worn tees.

Located on St.Patrick Island minutes from downtown, this course offers great views of the Calgary skyline. The Calgary Zoo parking lot is the only place to park, but you can also bike to the course. This is a great location for a disc golf course in Calgary. The nine holes occupy as much of the island as is possible without feeling cramped. The fairways run in all directions so wind is not an issue for the whole game. Although the course is on an island, even if your shot is horrible you shouldn't be too bad. With only a couple of challenging holes, it is more for a beginner to moderate skill level, but advanced players will enjoy the natural setting and the unique views. It is like an oasis in the middle of a city.

Mix of long and short holes. Great course for newbies. 1-7 fairways were cleaned up this year and 8 and 9 are playing fine in the fall now.

Great for lefties..tougher for the righthanders.

City has been cleaning up the park with less of the riff raff around.
