Chet's Nuts

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 28, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

~Easy flow within a tight park
~Baskets are clean and easy to spot
~Quick 9 good for a warm up round
~Don't need to carry more than a few discs

Cons:

~Tee area toe boards can be tough to locate in a few locations
~Lack of signage
~Small city multi-use park provides for a cramped course
~No real reason to seek out this course

Other Thoughts:

I'm glad to see a course within the City of Akron, but this is located atop a hill in the Kenmore neighborhood within a very small park. If the land was for walking and disc golf only I could understand it's purpose but it winds it's way throughout a small parcel with playground equipment, a pavilion, and bordered by houses and city streets.

Truly a beginner style layout, anyone with a few years under their belt will be fine with a few discs under speed 5. Overall the holes are solid, and the attempt to capture imaginative features of the landscape are there, but it doesn't work all that well. We had no problem navigating thanks to Udisc, but most of the toeboards are grown over and there is no course map in the kiosk by the parking lot.

I visited this course mid morning to warm up before heading out for more course exploration. It was OK throwing putters and mids off the tee and did the trick, but all in all it's not a course I'd visit again. There's just nothing there for where it's located to want to come back.

A One-of-a-Kind Nine!

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 30, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

+ Chestnut Ridge Park is very nice park located in the Kenmore neighborhood of Akron. It features plenty of mature trees, stone structures, and a rolling hillside.

+ Despite most holes being under 200', designers Ben Rahe and Pat Jackson do a great job at making this a super fun place to play. Several greens are challenging but fair, with the stone structures and mature trees incorporated perfectly for a great track.

+ Not only is this a great place for beginners, but more experienced players could make it a nice putting/mid range practice course.

+ Akron has some shady areas, but this part of Kenmore isn't one of them. No graffiti or litter to be found.

+ Nice new Gravity baskets on every hole.

Cons:

- This course was just opened up near the end of 2020, so it's still a work in progress. Most tees aren't marked, so you'll have to pull up the map on UDisc to find your way around.

- Tees (at the moment) are a mix of grass and existing concrete from the trails.

- I could see a few of the blind shots being a problem during busier times at the park. Those playing will have to keep an eye out, especially the stretch from #4 to #6.

Other Thoughts:

Chestnut Ridge is a very enjoyable short course! It has a lot of replay value in my opinion despite the total length being just over 1,500 feet. Worth a play if you're in the area!
