12 is better than 9 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 10, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

12 holes is better than 9! Some nice mature trees but mostly an open course with 2 teepads per hole. Not a bad place to take a beginner, just the right mix of open and obstacles. Not usually very crowded and you don't have to worry about other users of the park.

Cons:

It can be a bit windy at times and the navigation isn't always the easiest.

Other Thoughts:

Some nice mature trees here but not old growth, there is very little true old growth left in the state.

Pros:

The signs had pictures that 'starred' the baskets. There is a softball field but it didn't come into play with the disc course.

Cons:

Nothing bad. The topography was flat but you can't have everything.

Other Thoughts:

This was my kinda course: in town but bucolic and just the right mix of distance and obstacles.

Pros:

Nice tee signage that includes a picture and a distance. Two teepads (short and long) at every hole. Nice baskets and I liked that each basket had an indicator for the direction of the next tee. Park was clean and free from graffiti. Pretty open, but nice use of trees and obstacles so it doesn't feel like you're throwing to a basket in an empty field. Good distance for a public park course (especially from the longs). Forgiving for beginners. Easy to get to off I-39. 12 holes is better than 9.

Cons:

Flat, no elevation changes at all. No holes that force a line. Pretty straightforward, some may find it too easy and kind of boring. Could be some overlap with other park goers in spots (though it seems this course/park is rarely crowded). Would prefer concrete teepads to rubber. Seems like there could have been room for more holes which would've been nice.

Other Thoughts:

I played this course as I was passing through north on I-39 on a Friday afternoon and had the course, and pretty much the park, to myself. On the whole, I was pleasantly surprised. The course is pretty open, I would call it lightly wooded, but the trees they have are mostly mature pines and they do well with what they have to make it interesting. And if you happen to hit one, these pine boughs are like Dikembe Mutumbo with the way they reject discs! Also, if you're expecting a public park course with a bunch of ace runs, think again. Even from the short tees, there are no holes under 220', most are over 250' and a handful over 300' (longer from the long tees, obviously). So you need at least a decent arm to card birdies. That being said, this course is extremely forgiving. Every basket can be seen from the tee. Pretty much every hole has a wide open fairway, meaning if you go right or go left, it doesn't really matter, you'll still have a clean approach look. The ones that do require a gap, there are usually multiple routes. Almost every hole could be parked with a good enough RHBH hyzer shot. And sometimes that's perfectly fine! Great for beginner/intermediate players, and sometimes I'm not trying to play the most technical course in the world. But more advanced players could get bored. I think they could've added a few more obstacles, maybe a blind shot or an elevated pin, that would've upped the difficulty a bit without changing the layout. Overall though, this was a really fun spin. Very easy to get to off I39, so if you're driving through I recommend it for a quick, fun round to stretch your legs. Not a destination course by any means, but I would play it again if I'm in the area.

Plainly Fun Field 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 19, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Old growth Pines and Sandy ground with a Country breeze

24 Pads and 12 Kingpins, beautifully Colored Kingpins :) 1-11 Orange Baskets with Greenglow Poles, and 12 with Blue Pole and Chartreuse Basket. Arrow on Number Plate points to next Hole

Tee Signs with Hole description, helps with navigation. 1 Long, 1 Short per Hole

Rubber Tees on flat sandy ground. Shorts are all Birdie-able, Red level lengths. Blue level Longs are great practice for throwing 10 to 12 Speed discs

Plenty of Shots to shape. The design uses the Pines to great effect. Fairways and Greens don't feel similar, and the Shot choices didn't get repetitive. It is open enough however, that you could throw any Shot off the Tee, but there is an Optimal line from each Pad.

Plays in a typical Rural City Park complex, but the DGC feels secluded

Plenty of room out there to have crammed an 18 hole DGC in, but this layout is Quality over Quantity. Plays as 24, anyways ;)

Cons:

Flat

First timers will get confused as to which Tee is next, due to some clutter in a couple spots

Older Golfers would like a Couple Benches

Other Thoughts:

Played this Summer and a couple Summers ago. Nice and Breezy both times. Tees and Grass were Dry after a big overnight Thunderstorm, and the course was not Buggy :)

Threw a little bit of everything for the 24hole Round. Shorts were Buzzz'/Rivals Backhand, and OLF/Outlaw Forehands. Longs were OLF/Outlaw Bombs, Fh and Bh. Lot of Forehands both loops, actually. Maybe Colyn throws Lefty!?!

Fun DG :)

Pros:

This course is 12 holes set in a multiuse park just off of I-39. The course is on the south side of the park. The flow of the course is very intuitive once you find the first hole. The baskets are Disckings that are all in great shape and catch awesome. These have the number plates on top which also have a next tee arrow on them which really helps with navigation. These are also bright and standout. They are funky colored (teal and light orange) but work great as far as spotting the next tee. The tees are rubber mats that are all in great shape, level and gripped nicely. There are 2 tees per hole. The course should never be busy since it's a tiny town. The course is permanent and free to play. This is a great course for beginners and also just a great place to work on different shots or try different things.

Cons:

There's nothing to really complain about here. The course is clearly designed for intermediate players and it does a great job with that. I only played this once but I figured someone should get a review up. The only real cons I can think of are it's not the most challenging course and I'm not sure about the mowing during the summer. The grass was fine albeit a little long in early September.

Other Thoughts:

Definitely not a championship caliber course but you can do way worse than this. It's actually a nice little place to stretch out if travelling along I-39, which is what I did. Pretty solid little course. Worth a quick round if you're nearby but if you're looking for more of a challenge just head about 20 minutes north to Yulga or Standing Rocks.
