simple but well done 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 20, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

-nice discatchers, tee posts with hole numbers
-natural tees are level
-has a mix of holes in the widely spaced rows of mature trees and open holes on the other side of the park
-uses well the small space available
-fun short game practice
-safari options if the course is not busy (likely)

Cons:

-playground comes into play on the front
-the basketball course is in play on hole 9
-it's a small park so mostly very short holes
-the first 5 holes are practically all the same hole and all have parallel fairways

Other Thoughts:

Dob Goedert Memorial Park is a small park in the tiny town of Wallace, population ~360. It's pretty cool such a small town has a disc golf course and especially one that is pretty well done considering what's available on the land.

The first 5 holes play through an area that has rows of large trees with a high ceiling. These holes are simple, straight shots in the wide lanes and are really repetitive. The playground is also in this area and comes into play on hole 5 and possibly others on an errant shot. The last 4 holes play around the open area on the other side of the park.

Hole 6 plays from the edge of the wooded area, over the small building (that I think was a restroom but can't remember) and between a couple of bushy evergreens. The basket is blind from the tee so basket 7 may look like the obvious basket. Basket 6 is to the left. This is the one hole where you can open up a little bit. Hole 7 has a line of trees down the middle to avoid but it's an easy hyzer. Hole 8 has a tree line on the left to stay out of but it's otherwise wide open. I was bummed that my ace run chained out. Hole 9 plays around the side of the fenced basketball court.

If the park is busy with people it wouldn't be wise to try to play a round. It's a small park and people present are people in play. I imagine that is rarely the case but it's worth noting. If you do have the place to yourself, there are lots of safari options to add some distance and variety to the experience. Otherwise, it's a reasonable pitch & putt worth checking out to stretch you legs if you're passing by Wallace but definitely not worth traveling to play.
