Very Rustic Course Along The Naches River! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 2, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

FHYR DGC is a 21 hole course located on the property of a school for troubled boys. The course has been relocated a couple of times. The current new location down near the river is on a site that used to be a mill of sorts. A few holes play through old abandoned equipment. Most of the course plays through thick groves of Aspen trees much of which is along the banks of the Naches River. It was very pretty on a warm May evening.

The course is currently very primitive. The baskets are single chain Instep models. The tee pads range from rough to rougher. Since the only way to play the course is to line up a tour with Chris R, navigation is not an issue.

The course is very technical in nature. Definitely, accuracy over arm strength will help you score well on this course. Almost every hole involved threading the needle either off the tee or further down the fairway. Even the longest hole, # 16, a 460' featured a tight alley about 250 down the fairway.

Cons:

Right now, the very rough tee pads will really put off a lot of players. Anyone who uses a big run-up will hate these.

The single chain baskets will spit out more than their share of putts.

Being less than consistent (Much less) I quickly grew tired of tight fairways and thick roughs. I guess I prefer nice green, more open park like courses.

Other Thoughts:

This course is a long way from anywhere but Yakima. I don't expect to see it get a lot of walk in visitors, maybe a few dedicated course baggers, such as myself. It's probably not going to be worth the drive for most players.

Donations are welcome. I feel bad that I was late and in a hurry and failed to donate. I'll try to figure something out.

I'll also try to increase my rating when I see that improvements have been made to the tee pads, especially.
