Cons:
My biggest issue with Helmstedt was the rough. The majority of fairways consist of 8-10ft wide mowed lanes in otherwise up to knee high grassland. I probably spend as much time looking for my discs as I did actually playing. You don't really lose them, but I sure had plenty of searching to do. As a result, I refrained from taking second shots and sometimes held back on drives, just to not spend another 5 on weeding, which spoiled part of my fun.
I'm not sure how the mowing is organized, probably by the club itself so I'd understand that there can be some restraints, but getting it all mowed would greatly improve the experience.
A quick fix could be to not play by yourself and have a second person spot where the drives land (or just be more accurate than I am).
Other than that, not much to complain about, a couple holes are somewhat short and my first impression was that the majority of holes leans to (sometimes forces) RHBH hyzer throws.
#11 and #12 apparently had to be changed due to neighbor complaints about discs in their backyards. As a result, there's an old #11 tee sign and tee in the middle of the park with no basket attached that confused me at first. A local explained the deal, old #12 tee is now new #11 tee (with the basket up on the hill) and #12 has a new tee (though no tee sign) on the far right of the hill with the basket likewise being on top.
You can check the map on the link above, as it shows the new layout.
Other Thoughts:
I definitely have to play Helmstedt again and reserve the right to bump up my initial rating.
The park is really nice, has water and rare elevation and did not seem as there would be much interference with park visitors (except for 2 easy to spot bike paths), a major drawback on not just a few German courses.
It is nicely complimented by a great course in nearby Schöningen.
