Pros:
The Huber Park disc golf course has nine challenging holes for the Rec to Intermediate player, mostly because 5 of the holes are over 300 feet, with two of those over 400. Concrete tees, new Innova Disc Catchers, new and informative tee signs, and a variety of other park activities are tucked into a relatively small park just across the street from the High School, so this course will get plenty of foot traffic.
The first hole starts just past the park entrance, and runs left (west) down a slight hill, making it a fun ace run opportunity. Then the holes run primarily north and south, following the design of the well-crafted map you saw beside the first tee. There are opportunities to shape shots in and out of the majestic park trees, and there is little to no chance of losing a disc here.
Cons:
In terms of safety in design, 'interesting' fairways for 6, 7 & 9 bring a lot of other park activities & structures into play. Hole six drives straight past the playground and picnic table area, 7 is a mando that will grind up your plastic on the driveway, or risk going over the guardrail to the fields below, and nine is a long-ish hyzer (rhbh) that sweeps around behind the gazebo shelter. The park will be replacing a lot if the roof shingles there prematurely (and plastic will get chewed up by those same shingles).
Hole #4's tee box slopes significantly down and to the left. When (not if) it is replaced, I actually hope it is moved away from the hyzer line from the first tee.
The effort to finish the ninth hole near the front is commendable, but leads to unnecessarily confusing flow for 5, 6, 8 & 9 (please see map).
Other Thoughts:
Finally, though usage is needed to grow the sport, the location of this course near the high school will result in a LOT of usage by teens. Hopefully, the local club, and other more mature players will keep an eye on things, and mentor these up and coming players to be mature and responsible disc golfers!
