Park Guides Should Charge For This Tour 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 6, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Meadowbrook is a multi-use park with a pool , many courts , a cement walking trail and ball fields . Most of the park features at least a part of this course . There are a couple of places to use bathrooms if the park is open ( pool and baseball field ) . There is a cool lion statue to greet you in the middle of a spacious lot . The course starts to the immediate right as you enter .
The Equipment : Almost all of the holes have 3 1/2 X 8' cement tees . A couple of places just have a cement section of lot to throw from ( 16 & 18 ) . The baskets are nice yellow banded Discatchers . There is a great kiosk with map near hole #1 . The signage really stands out here . Very unique looking and with hole# , par , distance ( accurate most of the time ) and flight path .
The Landscape . There is a creek that could come into play on a couple of the early holes . There is also a real small one that you will have to travel over on 16 , 17 and 18 . The course has more of grades than anything . Some will require you to throw near other activities .
The Highlights : Hole #1 236' , has a fairway with a small treeline , and the basket sitting on a mound . #2 has a lane that pushes your drive down a slight right to left treeline . The basket sits part of the way up a hill . #11 is the longest hoe on the course by far ( 525 ) , and the green is bordered by a long brushline all the way down on the right , and a parking lot that comes into play at the end . #16 is a shot over a creek ( sometimes dry ) to the basket beyond . #17 , 256' isn't eventful , but a pool wall might come into play if you overshoot your drive to the right , you trowing over a small creek . The nicest thing about this hole is that you cross a picturesque covered bridge to travel over the creek to the green .
Amenities : really just the nice bridges .
The Time . It took me a little less than an hour to play here . A foursome might take a little less than 2 hours .
Disc Risk : low . The park is well cared for , the overgrowth is only bad near holes 10 & 11 ,and the lion statue will eat whoever tries to run off with your prized driver .

Cons:

#1 Safety : What to address first !? The first 3 holes place throwing lanes right next to each other . and 5-6 , and 8-10 . If the course is ever busy ( doubt it ) , it could be a problem . As far as safety of the park users , this course is potential Park Patron Pinball . The cement walking path runs in and out of most of the park . The course is all over the park . Ding ! The bridges like #16 and the basket are close to potential park users . Dong ! I can't remember if it's 6 or 7 , but my vote for one of the most dangerous holes in the midwest goes to this one . Your short midrange/putter drive travels over a virtual plethora of outdoor games : Giant chess , shuffleboard , horseshoes , maybe bocce' ball . just think , You can easily clip a player of one game , and get a 2'fer by hitting another of a completely different game !! Think of the excitements !! And the fights !! Clang !!! I think #14 forces a drive over part of a fenced in outfield . Won't Junior be surprised when a disc appears in his glove instead of a baseball !? The creek near #1 could swallow your disc .
Challenge . The course is a deuce fest with a few ace opportunities . Nothing here that you can't get out of a jam by making a good upshot or putt from a bad drive . Several holes have the same feel to them .
The course is fragmented and if the park is crowded with other activities , you may have to skip holes .one thng that this park has a lot of : Shelters . You can place your drive into one of them and play " Shelter Skelter " , watching families scramble for cover . " Peak Time is Freak Time " .

Other Thoughts:

The park just lacks space to put a real and safe 18 hole disc golf course within it's confines . I know I am poking fun at the course , but I actually had fun out here on a Monday morning . Even off peak , there were people walking and swimming . The friendly park personnel helped point me in the right direction for the tee on #16 ( kind of a guard house near the pool area ) . Thanks .
This might be the type of course that you could eat a sandwich in one of the shelters near hole 16 or 17 , and people watch the many park users .
My Recommendation : Not a course to go out of your way for , but if playing off peak , okay for newbies , 1 disc players . families , and dates . Also appealing for the locals .This course might bore the better players . The course is a little out of the way for travelers , unless in the Bascomb area , and is a little off the path for the Course Collector , unless they are coming for Hedges Boyer Park , too . If in the Tiffin, or Findlay area , drop in just to get a look if you want .

Meadowbrook 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 29, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

-nice park with plenty to do other than disc golf
-some good holes
-a few holes i think 7-14 are wide open and a few offer longer throws
-holes 1-6 are very technical and good practice on threading the needle
-innova baskets

Cons:

-holes 1-6 hug the creek so there is possibility of losing a disc
-was difficult to navigate for the 1 time i played
-hole-to-hole navigation is tough and not marked well
-natural tee pads
-some holes play close to the playgrounds where the kids are playing alot

Other Thoughts:

I've only played this course once and it might take some consideration to go back. I realize this course is just starting out, but the combination of the water risk, mosquitos, and some of the holes playing close to the playground I may no go back. The main reason i would possibly play again is because it is a nice alternative to Hedges Boyer Park.
