Lots of upgrades 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 29, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Concrete teepads that are in great shape
Very good baskets
2 tee positions on every hole
Decent signage*

Cons:

Walking path interference on more than half the holes
*Needs "next tee" indicators
*At least a few of the signs need to be updated to new basket positions
Adjacent to smelly city facility
Trees planted when the course was new are now grown and provide some good obstacles... but some key pruning is needed.

Other Thoughts:

- I imagine greenbelts are tough to design. There isn't a lot of elevation to work with. If you are going down and back as most do, it is hard to keep from overlapping fairways, and while this course does a pretty good job at that there is still a lot of potential for that on 2/3/4 with 14/15/16. The much bigger interference danger is the path with unsuspecting walkers. I played on a nice Sunday morning and only encountered 4 or 5 people on the path, but it requires you to be very aware.
- 1-4 and 14-17 run east-west just across the fence to the north of the water treatment facility and the compost depot. If there is a wind from the south you really get a snootful of pungent smells.
- There is an 8 foot fence (with 3 rows of barbed wire at the top) that runs along 2-4. It doesn't take much of a driving error to lose a disc on the other side of this monster. It's closer to the fairway - especially 3 & 4 - than I would prefer.
- The course is easy to get around. The greenbelt is an engineered drainage channel. There are bridges and a nice path of raised concrete cylinders for crossing when it is wet or muddy.
- It looks to be well maintained. It had just been mowed the day I played. But it needs some tree pruning to restore some of the original fairways.
- Most of the holes, it is relatively easy to find the next Tee. Though hole 2 requires a backtrack of 200 feet and it wasn't obvious.
- I wish I had taken pictures. These always help me with a course (thank you to all that do this!) But the pics on this course's page from 2012 show the original 9 hole layout (per the info page, the redesign to 18 holes happened in 2014.) You can get an idea of the terrain and baskets (they added 9 of the same type in the pics) and signage (probably all new signs, but they are the same size and look as the ones in the photos), but I think all of the holes shown were changed.
-Sometime since the most recent previous review in 2015, concrete tee pads (2 per hole) were added.
- I don't see the 8' fence that crowds holes 2-4 in the photos and it is very possible it was added after the course had been redesigned in 2014.

Improved, but still a work in progress (that needs a lot of work) 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 30, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Okay mixed level course with two tee locations (currently marked by color coded signposts). Holes are decent length. Good easily visible orange DGA baskets. Some of the holes use whatever foliage is there to make short but challenging holes. Water carry shots on 1, 17 and 18 add some spice to a rather bland and mostly open layout. Rec players will like the short layout. Advanced players will find the longer one manageable. The short wooded hole on 7 is cool and unique.

Cons:

Some holes here, particularly most of them between 8 and 16 are just flipping boring. A number of other holes are still too snuggied up to the walking paths that pretty much form the spine of this greenbelt park. Path wasn't heavily used, but I had to wait a few minutes on Hole 13 for two unsupervised girls piddling around on their bikes right in the line of fire. Drainage ditch on 8-13 will be muddy during rainy season. Spherical 'nickels' atop the baskets are hard to read from afar. Needs signage and pads.

Other Thoughts:

I went here on a beautiful evening and there was nobody playing DG here. I'm honestly not a fan of greenbelt courses like this, and the fact that such parks are often used for trails is why. A few of the new holes off the path are a welcome change (although it looks like the path could extend into this area eventually).

This course was originally a nine hole course that had some ridiculous 800' holes intertwined like a 'T' along the path, often with hidden basket a mile away in a random plot of trees. The shortening of the holes has alleviated that madness, and the powers that be here have planted some trees to improve the boring open shots. Unfortunately, they only grow so fast.

Better than the course it replaced, but not in the caliber of other Wichita area courses like Oak and Herman Hill. In fact, I enjoy the nine holer at Riggs Park just a mile from here better. But one you can cross off your list if you're passing through.

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 25, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

1.open clear shots on most holes,
2.brand new baskets
3. aces are possible on several holes that seem to be less than 200 feet.

Cons:

1. no tee pads
2. very open course, (no wind blockage)
3. no markers for yardage,
4, construction and very loose ground on tee pads from 7 to 10.
5.confusing layout (spent a lot of time searching for tee pad stakes and flags)

Other Thoughts:

This course is a work in progress, so I assume they will put teepads and signage in soon,
hole 1: short straight shot, basket by berm that has water on left.
hole 2: probably a 250' straight shot along a berm guarded by pines on both sides.
hole 3: fence OB guarding right fairway, basket guarded by pines on berm. probably 300'.
hole 4: basket out in open field, long throw, possibly 450'.(I think this is the longest hole ).
hole 5: short drive, basket tucked into a group of pines,
hole 6: tee box in field, drive over a area of small trees and tall grass, basket tucked into a clearing (island) by the woods.
hole 7:( New area) tunnel shot , about 250', tunnel is newly cut and very difficult, looks like a mando will be put in place through these woods. will be a great tunnel shot in the future,
hole 8: a short straight shot along a ditch/hedgerow on the right,(very loose ground from construction vehicles).
hole 9: a open, very boring hole, possible 300,'
hole 10: throw through a small row of trees, basket on the left, another 250-300' maybe.
hole 11: another basket out in the middle of an open field. 250' maybe,
Hole 12: open, straight shot by the restrooms toward the playground, 200-250?
hole13: this one goes from the sidewalk over the ditch and back towards the basket by the restrooms, nothing spectacular so far!
hole 14: short hole going back towards the parking lot, old hole 8 , throw from sidewalk toward basket up on berm, protected by pines.
hole 15: very short possible 175' straight shot. .ace or defiantly birdie hole
hole 16: another short throw, but basket is on the edge of berm that goes into the pond,
hole 17: blue tee (long) has you throwing across pond, red tee marker is on the other side of pond. this is at the narrow end of pond, probably a 100' shot, not really a problem if you can throw straight, basket is on the far left on the other side of pond,
hole 18: runs right along the other side of pond (new area), pond is on the left. short run, but tight.

Pros:

Course has been dedesigned and now has 18 baskets. There are now shorter, more technical, and challenging shots. Look forward to concrete pads being poured.

Cons:

Always windy, natural tee pads make footing difficult.

Other Thoughts:

Will update my review if more work is done and concrete pads are poured.

Deja Vu 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 15, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course has good signage and the baskets are excellent.
The grounds are well kept and on the back side of the course there is a playground.
Most likely you will have the course to yourself.
Hole observations:
1-Long with the basket behind some pines.
2-Long with the basket up on a hill.
3-Open shot that throws across the ditch
4-Straight shot with the basket in the open.
5-Straight shot with the basket in the open.
6-Open shot.
7-Short hole, basket just in front of some pines.
8-Long and plays R to L.
9-Long with the pond on the right.

Cons:

These holes are very long and there aren't a whole lot of obstacles to make the holes interesting. It gets pretty repetitive after a few holes. Wind obviously will be a factor here as this course is out in the open, so in the summer time it gets pretty hot here.
There is a walking path that comes into play on some holes so be aware, also there are some light poles on 1 & 8 and 9's fairways that are going to get pegged eventually.
There aren't any trashcans or benches.
The walk from 9's basket to the parking lot is pretty lengthy and the walk from 3's basket to 4's tee is long as well. Also the walk from 7's basket to 8's tee is long.
When it rains heavily the fairway of 4 is going to be a challenge to get across as it is basically a drainage ditch.

Other Thoughts:

If grip and rip style courses are your thing then you are in luck because this one is just that. If you are into the park style of a course then hit up Riggs across town. If you like a more technical course then skip this one and drive over to Stone Creek in Derby.
I feel that this course was supposed to be the opposite of Riggs in that they wanted a course with more length, in that regard they hit the mark. However this course doesn't have much for variety or challenge, other than the length and the wind.
With all the other disc golf options in the area this course doesn't seem to get a whole lot of traffic. Not a must play by any means but if you like length then give this one a shot.
