Improved, but still a work in progress (that needs a lot of work) 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 30, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Okay mixed level course with two tee locations (currently marked by color coded signposts). Holes are decent length. Good easily visible orange DGA baskets. Some of the holes use whatever foliage is there to make short but challenging holes. Water carry shots on 1, 17 and 18 add some spice to a rather bland and mostly open layout. Rec players will like the short layout. Advanced players will find the longer one manageable. The short wooded hole on 7 is cool and unique.

Cons:

Some holes here, particularly most of them between 8 and 16 are just flipping boring. A number of other holes are still too snuggied up to the walking paths that pretty much form the spine of this greenbelt park. Path wasn't heavily used, but I had to wait a few minutes on Hole 13 for two unsupervised girls piddling around on their bikes right in the line of fire. Drainage ditch on 8-13 will be muddy during rainy season. Spherical 'nickels' atop the baskets are hard to read from afar. Needs signage and pads.

Other Thoughts:

I went here on a beautiful evening and there was nobody playing DG here. I'm honestly not a fan of greenbelt courses like this, and the fact that such parks are often used for trails is why. A few of the new holes off the path are a welcome change (although it looks like the path could extend into this area eventually).

This course was originally a nine hole course that had some ridiculous 800' holes intertwined like a 'T' along the path, often with hidden basket a mile away in a random plot of trees. The shortening of the holes has alleviated that madness, and the powers that be here have planted some trees to improve the boring open shots. Unfortunately, they only grow so fast.

Better than the course it replaced, but not in the caliber of other Wichita area courses like Oak and Herman Hill. In fact, I enjoy the nine holer at Riggs Park just a mile from here better. But one you can cross off your list if you're passing through.

Deja Vu 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 15, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course has good signage and the baskets are excellent.
The grounds are well kept and on the back side of the course there is a playground.
Most likely you will have the course to yourself.
Hole observations:
1-Long with the basket behind some pines.
2-Long with the basket up on a hill.
3-Open shot that throws across the ditch
4-Straight shot with the basket in the open.
5-Straight shot with the basket in the open.
6-Open shot.
7-Short hole, basket just in front of some pines.
8-Long and plays R to L.
9-Long with the pond on the right.

Cons:

These holes are very long and there aren't a whole lot of obstacles to make the holes interesting. It gets pretty repetitive after a few holes. Wind obviously will be a factor here as this course is out in the open, so in the summer time it gets pretty hot here.
There is a walking path that comes into play on some holes so be aware, also there are some light poles on 1 & 8 and 9's fairways that are going to get pegged eventually.
There aren't any trashcans or benches.
The walk from 9's basket to the parking lot is pretty lengthy and the walk from 3's basket to 4's tee is long as well. Also the walk from 7's basket to 8's tee is long.
When it rains heavily the fairway of 4 is going to be a challenge to get across as it is basically a drainage ditch.

Other Thoughts:

If grip and rip style courses are your thing then you are in luck because this one is just that. If you are into the park style of a course then hit up Riggs across town. If you like a more technical course then skip this one and drive over to Stone Creek in Derby.
I feel that this course was supposed to be the opposite of Riggs in that they wanted a course with more length, in that regard they hit the mark. However this course doesn't have much for variety or challenge, other than the length and the wind.
With all the other disc golf options in the area this course doesn't seem to get a whole lot of traffic. Not a must play by any means but if you like length then give this one a shot.
