Quick 9 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 2, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Good for a quick 9 if you're too busy to take time to play the longer, 18 hole Jackson
-Good for teaching beginners how to play disc golf
-Won't lose a disc
-Nice baskets
-Signs with distance and general map
-Nice cement tees
-Nice big trees as obstacles

Cons:

-Could be busy but probably less than Jackson
-Is fairly short
-Not enough trees to make you shape your shots at all
-There are other people out on the course that aren't aware of disc golf and soccer fields nearby
-Could be quite windy as with most courses in SD
-Isn't always the cleanest.
-Omaha is the busy road right next to this course and it can be pretty loud with traffic noises.

Other Thoughts:

I think this course has been updated since many of the reviews here. The signage is no longer in yards but in feet. The signs and pads are nice and it is a pleasant little 9 hole course in a city park. It is just off I-90 and not too far from Jackson Park so if you are in Rapid you might as well play it. I believe this to be one of the older courses in SD. Other courses you need to play if you are in the Black Hills are Pagent Hill in Custer, and Spearfish Canyon just South of Spearfish.

It's Alright 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 20, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Quick and pretty easy; great if you just want to waste some time tossing discs
Generally pretty empty of other golfers
Big, mature trees

Cons:

Short, even for a nine-hole course
The road on hole #1 can make you nervous your first couple of times
Garbage-strewn
Lack of variety

Other Thoughts:

As I said, a fine course to waste some time at, but a far better course is right down the road.

quick fun 9 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 12, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Fun little 9 hole course in the middle of Rapid City. Easy to finish 9 holes in about 25 minutes. Some great large old trees to make some challenges on most holes. Great safari possibilities could make for some great holes. Saw no one on th course so could easily air it out playing safari. Tees nice and large

Cons:

Right next to major road, but it did not come into play. Out of bounds posts around, probably not really needed except to add a little more challenge. Very short course.

Other Thoughts:

Fun course, but very short and average. Good use of small plot of land. Fun and if you need a quick break in a road trip, this course will do.

Nice 9 hole course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 16, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

There were large concrete tee pads at each hole which made it very easy to throw from.

There were signs at each tee pad. Holes 1-8 had wood posts in the ground while hole 9 had a metal sign. These signs had the hole distance and par on them. The wood poles also had a hook on them for you to hang your bag from.

I thought this course was very easy to navigate. The tee pad for the next hole was visible from the basket being played.

This park was very clean. Although there was a lack of garbage cans, there was no litter.

The park has very nice baskets. They do not look very old and are in very good condition.

Cons:

W Omaha St. creates a lot of noise. If you like playing quiet courses, this would not be a course for you.

Hole #6 runs along the railroad tracks. There are O.B. markers between the fairway and the tracks, but there is not a fence to prevent anyone from crossing them.

The fairways seemed close together. Although they did not cross each other, the potential for an errant disc hitting someone is there.

Other Thoughts:

The distance markers at the tees were in yards instead of feet.

Basketball court and soccer field in park as well.

The disc golf course is in a very nice park setting. The grass was nicely mowed. Most of the fairways are open, but there are many mature trees in the park.
