Pros:
- Good layout that requires a variety of different shots, left to right and right to left. Hole 1 has the river right behind the basket so players must be careful not to overthrow. Three, four, and six also have water hazards near the pins.
- Equipment are nice Discatchers which catch great and are brand spankin' new. The course now finally has what I believe are perm signage which gives good enough info (par and distance).
- Adequate parking as well as a bathroom in the parking lot.
- Short, quick, sweet pitch and putt good for warming up the arms and legs before taking on some of the other courses nearby or on your way out to Rockford if you're coming from the Chicagoland area.
Cons:
- Grass teepads which as of right now, are fine but eventually they will get worn down and teeing off will be a lot less safe. Not quite sure if cement teepads are in order but those would bump this up to a 3/5.
- Short technical wooded course with none of the holes going over 350 so advanced players might get a little bored.
- I can imagine this one might be a little rough during the summertime if you happen to get off the fairways or get a bad kick from a tree.
Other Thoughts:
River Run DGC is a short and technical wooded course which is still in it's infancy. I had a great time playing this one on my way out to the Rockford area. It's by no means a destination course but it's definitely a solid 2.5 course that I wish I lived closer to.
