Nice large course with 22 holes located between the dike and the Baltic Sea.
The location ist pretty unique and well used.
Hole #7 is one of the best and most fun holes i've ever played. There are some challenging holes with trees/stones.
Hole 11# is unique with its beach chair Basket.
The place Kellenhusen is a pretty neat township.

Due to the Baltic Sea it is pretty windy.
Because Kellenhusen is kind of a health resort there are quite a few people walking around.
Some holes are just straight too easy/no obstacles.

The place itself is pretty nice. There is a camping place right behind the dike.
Hole #7 is awesome.

Südstrand is located in Kellenhusen, Germany. Kellenhusen is a resort, beach type community on the Baltic Sea. This 22 hole course plays along a strip of land between the beach and a walking-bicycling path. The sound of the sea gently hitting the beach is always heard. There is a sign with the course name and pertinant information at the beginning. The baskets are double chained. A few of the holes have concrete blocks for tee pads but most are natural surface. Each hole has a sign with the hole number and distance.The first six holes are pretty much out in the open playing with prevailing winds at your back.

Then you come to # 7 which is not only the signature hole on this course but one of the most memorable holes on any course. I'll nominate it now to put on my all time top 18 holes. It plays off a metal life guard-viewing platform which sticks out about 30 feet over the beach. This is a two story structure. The top is for the lifeguards. The lower level is for viewing the Baltic Sea and the beach. At the end of this platform is the # 7 hole sign. So you throw off this platform maybe 15 ft. above the sand to a basket that sits right on the sandy beach about halfway from the surf to the grassy area. It's just a little 125 ft. flip shot but between the prevailing sea winds and the crowded beach goers, it makes for one interesting shot. The day I played there was a family set up fairly close to the basket. Unfortunately, there were no German bikini clad coeds lounging near the # 7 basket today. So trying not to nail the family I flick my disc down and the wind catches it and sends it toward the surf. I've lost discs in lakes, rivers, creeks, swamps, resevoirs, swimming pools, fountains but never one in the Baltic Sea or any other sea for that matter. Fortunately, it fell short of the waves by about 5 feet. And then with all the German sun worshippers watching, I choke on my 25 ft. birdie putt.

The next seven or eight holes varying from 125 ft. to 450 ft. continue to play out, some through from thick rough with many trees. Then at about # 16, you turn back and play against the wind. There are some very cool and interesting basket placements, two are in some large boulders making for some thougtful approachs and putts. At the end, four additional holes have been added bringing you right back to the start.

The prevailing wind off the Baltic adds to the difficulty. The day I played, it was more like a gentle breeze, very comfortable. This is a busy place, with people constantly coming and going to the beach, camp grounds nearby, millions of bike riders, basketball players, skate boarders, wind surfers and countless others. The first six holes are pretty basic, open holes. It was dicey playing a couple of the more wooded, technical holes alone.

# 7 alone makes this a must play German course. Plus it is the first of the seven European courses that I've played where I have actually seen other players. I was able to play three holes with Mikeil who spoke very little English. Then he abruptly left, got on his bicycle and peddled away. I guess he had to go.

The next time you're in Kellenhusen, stop and play a quick 22 at Südstrand. I think you'll enjoy it.
