Great course! drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 2, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Mostly wide open, long drives, well kept, benches & trash cans, groomed like a golf course, easy to follow.

Cons:

Caught a tick roaming through a field searching for my disc.

Other Thoughts:

Overall a great course. A bit long so wear comfy hiking/running shoes. Not for beginners unless you want to play for 4+ hours.

Silver & Gold 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 21, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

~Pristine setting in a Summit County Metropark
~Extremely challenging yet fair
~Fantastic navigation
~Great concrete tee pads
~Love the Mach X baskets

Cons:

~Tailored towards upper level advanced and open players, ignores the casual players due
to level of difficulty
~Only offers gold level tees
~The rough is unforgiving and full of briars
~Huge lost disc potential throughout the course

Other Thoughts:

Threw a round on a warm Winter Solstice afternoon with a good friend. Right away you can tell this park is well maintained, and that the course is a showcase for high level disc golf play. Ample parking lot with a nice restroom facility, you can warm up on the practice basket before following the asphalt path to the first hole.

Fully aware that this is a championship level course, and knowing it was long, I was skeptical heading into this adventure with how much enjoyment this 43 year old sub 900 rated player could have. While the majority of the holes here play long, the course is very fair overall and rewards smart shot selection and placement. Huge risk reward is constantly offered to the player, and you need to decide on when to go for it. Most holes played bogey golf to my distance and ability, and I walked away satisfied with that.

The course shows it's teeth with sneaky distances, elevation changes, and landing zones that appear more accessible than they truly are. The key with Silver Creek is keeping your disc in play, and often times that means discing down and choosing your spots which often costs you a stroke from par, but keeps you in play. The rough throughout this course is brutal, thick, and full of thorns. Lost disc potential is extremely high if you go more than 10' into the thickets.

Extreme length occupies a good 75% of this course, with a handful of reachable par 3's and some modest par 4's but everything else is bombing controlled shots sometimes three of them to get into putting and approach range. We specifically waited until Winter for our first time visit knowing how brutal the rough was in the growing season. I don't know if I would seek a round out here during the Summer, but Spring, Autumn, and a warm Winter day makes for a good option.

This course doesn't appeal to a regular player like myself as a place I'd come back to very often, but it's extremely well thought out and constructed. It exceeded my expectations at all levels, and was worth the visit. I just don't understand why a gold level course would be installed in a metro park without shorter sets of tees to accommodate all skill levels. Unless this is meant to generate revenue through pro events, it does fall short on what public disc golf courses should be built for.

Bright Future, very challenging, and fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 15, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course has awesome amenities and a professional tournament level feel. The current foliage will develop to be a 4.5 * course.

Cons:

Understandable off the fairway it's rough, would be 4 stars if the 10 meter circle was clear to walk on each holes green, not unobstructed, but clear of undergrowth.

Other Thoughts:

Look forward to playing again next year or in the winter. Lots of bramble and some poison Ivy, accuracy a must.

Gorgeous Park, Long Bombs, Spotters a Must 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 8, 2019 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is the best course install I've ever seen at it's opening, beautiful signs, baskets and tees, immaculate fairways. The park is gorgeous and allows you let it rip. Signature holes for me are #4, #7, #11, #16 & #18, a couple good shorter par 3's in hole #1 and #15 as well. #4 and #11 are easily two of my favorite par 4's in the area, some technicality as well as a risk / reward in how aggressive you want to get off the tee.

Heavy equipment was able to define the lines through some tight areas and thick brush and expand landing zones, hoping these stay mowed and clear. The course drains extremely well.

Cons:

Some cons are of no fault to the designers, just the unfortunate downfalls of the property. The rough is ROUGH, especially on 14-18. Some will get better with age and play as people make paths through the rough, but I don't plan to ever play that stretch of 14-18 without a group or friend for spotting.

Even as an advanced player with 380' of controlled distance, without 450 of power, things start to feel a little repetitive by hole 12 and I find myself throwing the same stable distance driver and same shot over and over. While I understand the goals / restrictions for this course and appreciate the challenge, I would've liked to see a little more variety in the distances on some of the straight forward holes.

UPDATE: After playing the course with the designers I learned that they had quite a few restrictions, specifically on pin placements, definitely gives more respect for what they were able to accomplish. Having played the course for a 3rd time, knowing what i'm getting myself into, I'm definitely growing to like it more.

Other Thoughts:

Potential Improvements: Would love to see the addition on some shorter tees added in the future, though I know it might be tough considering the restrictions with the running paths. Continued clearing of paths through the rough and maybe knocking down some of the areas with dense thorns on the final 5-6 holes. I found myself afraid to be aggressive during that stretch because anything more than 10-15 feet off the fairway was pretty much lost.

Overall it's a very good course, installed with excellence, and those tee signs are beautiful! I appreciate the vision and guts to design such a demanding course in an area with very few high level pros. There are some very memorable holes and its unique from other courses in the area. Would have liked more variety and technicality, but overall it's great considering the property. Wear long pants, bring friends to spot and a large stick or machete for the brush, and throw your arm off.

Final thoughts? Disc golfers, TAKE GOOD CARE OF THIS COURSE! If the metro parks see the value in disc golf course and approach them with this level of excellence, there are other incredible metro parks with tons of potential.

Load the Cannon! One of Ohio’s Longest Courses.

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 6, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Silver Creek Metro Park is split up into a few different parcels of land. The area that hosts the disc golf and cross country courses is 186 acres, giving plenty of room for designers to create a nearly 10,000' tournament course.

+ You're greeted by a large parking lot (overflow parking down the road for tournaments), a beautiful public restroom facility, and a large practice area. The path to the first tee is to the right of the restrooms, with a sign pointing the way.

+ Ammenties are top notch. Bright red Mach X baskets, concrete tee pads, and really high quality tee signs. This course is tournament ready one day after the official opening!

+ The design is very solid and nails the target audience. The course is tailored towards more advanced players that can consistently throw 300'+.

+ While the rough is pretty unforgiving, the fairways are trimmed to perfection. Landing zones were carved out when necessary.

+ There's a few memorable holes sprinkled in. While I wasn't a fan of #16, you'll remember it just because it's a 1000' hole. Holes that stand out for their quality are #4, #7, #11, and #18. If I had to pick a favorite, I'd go with #4. 600'+ downhill throw to a difficult green. Very well defined fairway and landing zone.

Cons:

- A few holes are really wide open. This cause will be helped when the new saplings begin to grow.

The flow from 15 to 16 is very noticeable to say the least. After finishing 15, you walk 250' or so down #16's fairway to the tee, and throw a drive right over where you just walked. I understand the designers wanted a 1000' hole here, but it really flopped. Just move the tee to the top of the hill and make a really fun par 4.

- Some areas of the rough are basically wetlands. Pair that with tall grass and discs are going to be lost.

Other Thoughts:

Silver Creek is a new-age type of tournament design with many long holes that will play towards the strength of long arms.

Please show the MetroParks that disc golf is beneficial. Don't litter, and be respectful to everyone and everything. Doing so will help us build a case for more MetroPark courses in the future!
