A crafty fox, with a great finish 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 13, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good tee pads, concrete base with rubber mats.
Tee signs are also good, with layout, distance and par.
DISCatchers were in pretty good shape.
Mostly wooded course, a couple of open shots off the tee.
Lots of elevation change on this course, up and downhill, and a couple with both on the same hole.
Small park, but the course is in areas away from other uses.

Cons:

I played this course in December, and the rough was pretty bad in some places. I didn't have too much trouble finding errant drives, but in the summer, this would be a big issue here.
#3 plays pretty close to the entrance drive, but the route is through a narrow tunnel to the basket in the open. It would be a much better, and unique hole, if the tee was also in the open and away from the road.
Along with the thick rough, a few of the fairways are pretty tight.

Other Thoughts:

This course is in a rural area, in the town of Waynesboro, not too far from Staunton, VA, so its nice to have a course in a new area, and something else to do at the park. Staunton is about 10 miles away, after that, there is no other course within 15 miles. There is a large open area you drive through going back to the park, not sure if this is park property or not, but it would hold some long, open holes if it was used.
There are a nice variety of holes here, it feels like it was designed by someone who knew what they were doing, and not a general park employee.
With the tight rough, the Par 4s on sub-400' holes are not out of line.
They left the most challenging, and interesting, hole for last. #9 is a 374' foot hole that starts out uphill, under a low ceiling, then at the top of the hill, goes left and downhill to an open green area. If you can get a drive below the ceiling, to the top of the hill, you'll be in good shape.
Certainly not a destination course, but a fun play, if the rough is not too bad.
