Pros:

The Ridge should be a premier stop in the Birmingham area. 18 holes in and out of woods with tons of elevation changes. Uphill, downhill, water hazards to parallel and to cross. Long shots and some reasonably short. The course is in and thru dirt bike trails and zipline tours and an airsoft course so it is very exciting. The pro-shop sells all sorts of motocross gear as well as signature discs that say The Ridge on them starting at $10 up to $16. There is so much to see. Lots of cool rock outcroppings. There are caves but I did not find them.

Cons:

Signage and tee areas are lacking. They offer a map but it did not help much. Asked the owner for directions a couple of times and figured it out but it took like 3 hours to play 18. They have made an attempt with signage but it needs upkeep and renewal. There are no tee pads, just outlined areas that you thro from. Hard to navigate but doable. Some tee areas are slippery and downhill on pine needles.

Other Thoughts:

After two years of being marked as "Closed and Unplayable" the course is open again. I have been waiting to try it out the whole time. I got to meet Jason the owner and a very helpful young man named Brandon. With their directions I was able to get a feel for the course and make it thru.

Oh hole 4, you tee off in a path that crosses the zip line launch area. I pegged a chic with a driver right in the head and felt terrible. She had a helmet on for ziplining thank God or she would have been hurt badly. Seriously, I was a little off target to the left but I nailed her HARD in the head. She threw my disc (understandable) and told her I was sorry, picked my disc up and threw from right next to her. She was not hurt so I made light of it and told her I was going to have to play thru from her helmet.

I had a blast out there and hope a lot more people start going so the place gets some decent paths tramped down to make navigating easier.

Bring good foot wear for hiking. Thick socks are a must too. Bug spray may be needed in warmer weather.
