Another good city course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 5, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful city park setting in an older part of town.
Disc play does not interfere with jogging trails, swingsets, etc.
Great for newbies, families.
Not a beer drinking, leaf rolling course.

Cons:

Wish course was longer, but still a very fun time.

One or two baskets will have water after a rain.

Other Thoughts:

Mature trees to give you a challenge.
No water hazards.
Short course, but still a good time. Birdies for the seasoned player.
Great family setting. Not a beer course.

Each time I am in a small town, I always check out their courses. I have yet to find a bad one. This one is a nice 9 hole in a beautiful park. Worth 30 minutes if you have the time.

Eye of the Beholder 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 14, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course plays super quick and you can get in multiple rounds. Ample tee pads, great baskets, and adequate signage. Trash cans at most holes.
This is a great course for beginners or someone that doesn't want a long bomber style of course.
More advanced players can work on their mid range game here. This course is well maintained and has restrooms on site. This is a good place for Ace Runs. Holes 7 & 8 have alternate tees.
The flow of the course is logical and there are both A & B pins positions. The baskets are moved around from time to time which helps make for slightly different lines.
War Memorial uses what trees are there to its advantage.

Cons:

Can get crowded at times due to the popularity of the course and also because it is so short. There are no benches, however with this course being as short as it is, wasn't an issue for me but might be for some.
Pros will most likely be bored here. Walking paths come into play on holes 1, 2, and 7, and are often busy with walkers/joggers.
Many of the holes are open here so wind will factor in. Also several holes don't have a lot of shade so it can get hot here in the summer time.
As of this review #8's basket is bent, most likely from a mower.
There isn't much elevation here in this park.

Other Thoughts:

This is a the kind of course that you look forward to early in your dg career. It isn't long and you should score well, it also helps build up your confidence. As you progress you will want to test your midrange game here. Or maybe you just want to run the chains and see if you can add to your ace count. Ponca City Disc Golf Club has 3 courses now in the Ponca City area with this course being the entry level course If you are looking for a course with more length then hit up the Lake Ponca course. Want a more technical course? PCDGC has you covered in that dept too. Check out Lake Ponca Bois D' Arc for a technical challenge. Overall this is a fun, short course that is an entry level, park style course. It serves its purpose well in that regard.

Short but not bad.... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 26, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Good tees

-Good baskets

-Great tee signs

-Easy to navigate

-good use of trees w/ slight left and right hooks

-clean & pleasant park

-nice course map on site

-easy to locate

-alternate concrete tees!

-alternate basket positions

Cons:

-pretty short/easy I played the course in about 20 minutes with only a fairway driver and putter. I finished 4 under par assuming all par 3s even with 1 OB bogey. very easy, even from the longer tees.

-pars on tee signs are off. these should all be par 3 or 2

-very flat course

Other Thoughts:

They probably could have used a larger portion of the park to make this course longer and more challenging but other than that, the design is pretty good. It was very short and easy but still fun. There is one hole (7?) that was about '350 and that was a fun one to play and would be a challenge to birdie for the average player. I would recommend playing this course if you haven't before and you want a really quick/easy round. It would be a great course for a beginner to start on. If you are in the area, I would HIGHLY recommend you play the Lake Ponca courses instead. They are very good courses.

3rd permanent pole hole course in oklahoma. This is the course i first started playing on 11+ years ago. It has seen many of negative things since then including lots of trees being removed. Still fun to play every so often

Well, it's Ponca. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 24, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-The course isn't ever that busy.
-The park is a nice park with good, old growth trees that are thick and tall, not short and shrubby.
-Being in the middle of town, it's easy to access.
-Right beside tennis courts/facility, so there's water and bathrooms right beside the course.
-Nice baskets in great shape.
-Tee Pads are all in very good shape and of reasonable size for the length of the holes.
-Plenty of parking; seriously, there's stupid amounts of parking available.
-The baskets get moved around a fair amount, leaving you to not throw the same shot for years on end.
-Good for beginners and families wanting to get introduced to the sport.
-Plenty of trash bins (though they seem to be rarely used).

Cons:

-Very, very short holes.
-Very compact in the park, and a lot of people entirely ignore hole structure and play random layouts. I don't find issue with this other than the fact that when people play these made-up layouts, they seem to completely ignore the fact that other people are already using, correctly I might add, the basket they're throwing to and they just throw regardless. I think this is just poor form. Be courteous, particularly when you're going about things out of order.
-Holes line up really close to one another, and being that the holes are so rarely guarded, you are sometimes left guessing which basket is the correct basket. You'll figure it out permanently after playing the course once though.
-Only 9 holes.
-Plays stupid fast. You can double the 9 for a full round of 18 in less than an hour with a group of four. Less than 30 minutes if you're by yourself.
-There's always people walking the jogging/walking path that goes around the course and commonly runs along and remarkably close to many of the landing zones around baskets and fairways.
-You should be able to deuce every single hole at this place with very little trouble.
-All those trash bins that never get used. There's smashed beer cans all over this course.
-This course can be populated by a pretty rough crowd at times.

Other Thoughts:

This course is good for a quick practice round for players, or to learn the game for people that are just being introduced. Beyond that, it's pretty subpar...

Excellent for a Beginner 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 3, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Brand new DisCatcher baskets, most tees are new as well. All holes have signs marking baskets, alternate basket locations and the location of the next tee, so following the course is no problem at all. There are a good mix of both simple, straight-forward holes and technical shots, so it's perfect for a beginner. The park is well kept and very easy to find.

Cons:

Players with even a few months experience wouldn't find much of a challenge from this course. Due to the course's easy play, it appears to draw a lot of families and young players, which leads to a lot of waiting at the tee unless you're an early bird.

Ponca City, OK intown 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 19, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Nice well kept park. Nice short course and quick. Good for a quick round while in town. Good tees and older baskets.

Cons:

Tee signs, 1,2,6,8 have no signs. 5,7 are rusted and 3,4,9 are the only ones readable but missing numbers.

Other Thoughts:

I like this course, as it is in my hometown and I've played it from the first time I started. The course is a lot easier now as the ice storm a few years ago took out a lot of trees.

The course is in Ponca City, the mapon this web site of this course is actually for the old Otoe courser about 15 miles south of Ponca City. So read the directions on the course page and not the map.
