Pros:

West Fork DGC is a pretty solid 18 hole course on the south side of the city. The course plays through a mostly prairie type area, but there's a couple holes that bring you along the creek at least. There's some pretty solid elevation involved out here too though.

The baskets are Innova Discatchers. Two baskets on every hole except one. Hole 14 only had a single basket. The orange banded baskets are always going to be the longs with the green ones being the shorts. Except for hole 12 where they're flipped for some reason. This is always cool to seeing two baskets in play at all times.

The tees are all concrete of decent size and all grippy enough. I didn't have any issues with these whatsoever. One tee pad per hole.

The design here is done pretty well. There's some longer walks between a few holes but it's an oddly shaped piece of land to begin with. Kudos to them for fitting 18 holes in here.

Good tee signs at every hole. I liked these ones. Pretty simple but very effective. They have the hole #, distances and pars for both baskets, a basic hole map and instructions on where the OB is if applicable and how to play it if you find the OB. Nice looking signs.

The course is permanent and free to play. Probably the best option within a half an hour or so. At least. Restroom by the parking lot as well.

Cons:

Very real potential for lost plastic out here with all the prairie grass. This stuff gets pretty tall and there's not much for landmarks so finding a shot off the fairway can be a chore. The bushes and things down along the creek on hole 2 are ten times worse than the prairie grass. Do Not end up down there.

I mentioned it above and I get it, but there's some really long walks between holes. Especially for the first three holes but also from 7 to 8, 14 to 15 and 17 to 18. It's also a decent hike back to the lot after finishing hole 18.

The prairie holes feel repetitive after a little bit. It's a good thing they break it up toward the middle section of the course. But the last three holes are kind of a letdown after getting into some of the better holes.

Other Thoughts:

This course is worth a play if you're in the area. Be sure to bring some discs you don't mind losing if the wind is up. Even if the wind isn't up actually. But definitely a good option if you're near here.

Average course, a few too many boring holes 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 25, 2022 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Tee boxes are all good. Many simply make use of existing walkways
- Some holes make good use of the creek bed, topography and trees
- More elevation changes than most front range courses
- Reasonably good signage ... but see cons below
- Given the number of concrete hiking / biking trails, the actual pedestrian traffic is not very bad. I like the use of hazards outside the sidewalks to alleviate this issue.
- Lots of benches at the tee boxes

Cons:

- A short blind shot on on hole 1 tee. Given the layout of the property this was totally unnecessary.
- The signage shows two possible pin settings on almost every hole. But I was never convinced of the the actual orange or green pin situation, or that the distances were very accurate
- There are 4 or 5 very mundane holes that are wide open and amount to nothing. Hole 18 in particular is very boring hole on which to end .., and leaves you quite some distance from the parking lot.
- A couple of steep drop offs along two or three holes.
- A couple of areas of thickets that are not nice to look for discs in.

Other Thoughts:

- The course feels dull at the outset due to the nature of the open terrain. But a few fairway slopes near the drainage do add some complications to a couple of the otherwise wide open shots.
- The back nine is more visually interesting and seems more fun to play. It also has a few shorter holes mixed in with one par 5, and just seems to have a better variety of shots.
- Not a particularly easy course to play when the wind is up.
- Given everything, it is worth a visit every now and then if you are fairly near, but might not be worth going to far out of your way to play.

Typical Denver Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 6, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Concrete tees and brand new DisCatchers for every hole
Plenty of elevation shots
Well defined fairways
Mulch surrounds each basket.
Two basket placements for nearly every hole
Plenty of benches scattered about
Clean bathrooms at the parking lot

Cons:

Most shots are wide open; your main obstacles are distance, winds and elevation changes. What few trees on the property are not utilized very often, neither is the creek that winds its way through the property.
There are substantial walks between holes 1-2 and 14-15. You could easily shave off 1500+ feet of walking on this course while taking more advantage of the available topography. Perhaps the course designer had some restrictions that are not apparent that explain some of these cons
Not much shade

Other Thoughts:

South Denver doesn't have a lot of courses, so this course will probably be popular for that reason alone. This course will keep you entertained from Rec to Intermediate skill levels, but probably not the greatest for beginners, nor challenging for big arms. Not a bad course, just seems like potential was left on the table.
