I throw star in the 171-174g range. I DO NOT THROW THE SIGNATURE DISTANCE RECORD STAR VALKS though.

I have a second run and they ARE overstable but DO become more flippy over time. Probably have around 12 CE valks from various runs.

Moose, I have that first one, tealish greenw/ white stamp as an X out if interested. Only a bubble mark on the top but doesn't affect the flight. Just looks kind of weird.

I have one of those signature star's also and it sits at my house. It's too stable for what I use the valk for (this might be the problem because I need to beat the crap out of it to make it flippy).
As for the valks comparison to the flow. At least for the valks and flows I throw we are talking apples and oranges. My flow can be thrown on a slight hyzer and will fly straight, break to the right briefly, then fade to the left. My star valk has to be thrown on an extreme hyzer so it will flip up and then turn over to the right. If I throw the valk flat it will likely roll for me.
It took me a long time as a beginner to get how this disc flies, but once you figure it out it's like butter.

some of the new star valks are pretty damn stable at first... they aren't going to be doing any flipping without some major wear

That is why I don't throw them. They are NOT like what the valk is supposed to be like so the one I do have is only used when being thrown over water. The regular run star valks are much more friendly.

One of my favorites......Great for anhyzers, hyzer flip-n-go straight, and BIG "s" shots.

I take them out of my bag sometimes, but they always seem to hang around.

Try its faster little brother the Archon for a little more distance.

:)

moose, I think I speak for everyone when I say I hate you... nice plastic, idiot. :hfive:

I love Valks. I used to throw all 4x JK Pro Valks, but those are getting harder to replace now so I've been switching over to Star plastic. I have one 175g JK Pro in the bag that I use for turnover/roller duties, and a fresh 172g Star for straight/turnover shots. The Star Valkyrie is one of the domier ones with the distance record stamp and I love it. Probably the best Valkyrie I've thrown. It has lots of glide and seems easy to turn, but it always hyzers back. I'll probably be buying more of those.

I've been on and off with snap lately so the disc flies different depending on how hard I throw it. The past few weeks my timing has been off and I'm maxing out at about 420-440, and at that power level the Star Valkyrie just flips up, tracks right a bit, and hyzers back. It's very easy to throw. When I had a bit more snap, the Valkyrie definitely had a lot of late turn and was getting out to about 460-470. At that power level, it flipped up to about 350 and then turned right sharply and held that nose down turn while slowly panning out to max D.

The most beautiful shot I've ever thrown with that Valkyrie was hole 18 at the Angry Beaver course in Elon Park in Charlotte. That hole is a 800+ ft dogleg right par 5. The fairway goes straight about 350-370 then doglegs right and goes another 400+ft to a pin tucked in the woods on the left. I snapped the Star Valkyrie hard on a hyzer line with a little torque and it flipped up flat and went straight at the woods ahead. Just as I thought it was going to crash into the woods deep, it suddenly broke right and had the most awesome fade to the right down the second leg of the fairway. I landed about 80 feet down the second leg of the fairway smack in the middle.

I love Valks too. Actually a found champion valk about 5 years ago that started me on the path I'm on today. Prior to that I threw only DX gazelles. Now I can't get enough disc golf. Anyway, today I thrown a Star Valkyrie for all my anhyzer needs. It's just flat out money. I've had it for about 2 years and at first it was just a straight flier for me, but now it's flippy gold. I'm lefty and with that disc, I never complain about a hole being a righty hole. It doesn't matter, I actually have better lines with it than my righty friends. I have a couple of Valks in champion plastic, but they are not as flippy and usually still have a slight fade at the end (vs. the star which just stays on the anny line). I use them for straight low tunnel shots. I have purchased a new star recently to start breaking it in as a replacement It's weird, it has more high speed turn than the champ counterparts, but since it's newer the fade is still there and more pronounced. Pretty good for S line shaped shots. I'm wondering if the older valk I have is more like a star roadrunner now. I've thrown Valks for so long that I've never even tried the RR. I guess if I lose my money maker, I can try it out.

That's because new Pro and Star Valks are the "Valk+". Last time at Play It Again, I am pretty sure there were champ and DX Valk+ discs also!

Like I said earlier, I really like the Pro Valk+ I have, big turn, reliable fade, and lots of glide!

I have a buddy that I play with all the time and he is lefty. He shapes insane lines with a beat star Sidewinder and a beat champ Roadrunner. They both fly similar lines but the Roadrunner holds the turn to the ground whereas the Sidewinder will try to fight back at the very end if given enough height.

Well can you ask innova to stop making it in + mold because the distance record was done without and it should stay that way.

My 150g 4X JK Valk goes as far straight (no wind or tail wind) as anything I have.

This first run 167g is a bit more overstable;

Champ glow, flat and stable (for a valk anyway)
167 star, beat to sh*t one that's been in the bag for a few years. Monster annys and rollers.
The flat champ glow flat out bombs in little to no wind.
Over the years my drivers have changed around a lot but I can't remember the last time I played without a valk.
If I was voting for greatest disc of all time the valk would go right up there with teebirds.

I keep a champ in the bag at all times. The katana has displaced the valk as my understable max D disc, but I still use the valk for a few things, namely 1) max D when I need something to go right and FINISH right(rhbh)...katana still fights out of the turn on a distance line, and 2) hyzer flip for a gentle s-curve with less left-right action than a katana, and similarly 3) more-hyzer flip for a longer straight shot than I can achieve with a fairway with less effort/height.

In short, for me the valk is my longest "workable" disc.

I'm 42 and feel like it while on the course, and my max D so far is 310. My 171 gm Star Valkyrie is my main driver. It's also hot pink, so if I do go OB, I can spot it 75' away.

For me, I like it with a slight to no tailwind, a mid-grade right to left side wind, or a slight head wind that I need to turn over to the right (RHBH). Depending on KS wind, I then switch to either a Viking, Sidewinder or Firebird to either run with the wind, or fight it straight on or left to right. Speed 9 discs is where I can get the most distance and control.
