[DGA] DGA's new disc, the Torrent.

So it's going to be a Nuke in DGA plastic I'm guessing.

Again with this speed 14 marketing crap.

DGA has a very simple lineup compared to most of the other disc manufacturers. They come out with one new disc a year, typically. This disc is a brand new mold. It's not a slightly modified Nuke or anything like that. For players with lots of distance, this will be a great disc! I don't see how it is "marketing crap"?

My guess, & that's all it is, is that a Nuke has the widest legal rim & is a speed 13. So technically, I don't think you could have a truly PDGA legal speed 14 rim

You can't make a disc faster then a Nuke unless you make the rim shallower like a Tern. Speed 14 is marketing crap. 99.9% of players throwing a Nuke can't get it up to speed anyways. It only hurts the chuckers and I see this as marketing to chuckers.

I believe Baldwin and Criss both bag Nukes for more distance over Hurricanes, so there is a need for some players even if it is the .1%. The whole sports/merchandizing model revolves around pros and getting amateurs to buy what the pros are using, so why the vitriol?

Personally I'd like to see a new 1.7cm fairway, but I'll try a Torrent for sure even if I can't get it up to speed. I already tease my hair and breathe out when I putt.

There's no such thing as a "PDGA legal speed 14 rim". The whole speed number thing is a concept that Innova has used over the years to market its discs. Other companies and third party flight charts in recent years have been adopting its usage. The PDGA has never given any official specifications or guidelines as to what size rim accompanies which speed.

So "Speed 14" is indeed marketing crap, but so are speeds 1-13.

HyzerHuckin' Inc's new Spinal Tap is speed 15. Just sayin'.

I am an engineer. For $1,000 I can make you one that is speed 20. :|

On an unrelated note how do you dye numbers on discs? ;)

First releases will be available in Bowling Green as fund raising discs - waiting on shipment!
Also players package disc for the DGA Hobson Grove Challenge on Wednesday and Thursday prior to the BG AMs

Speed 14 is marketing oneupsmanship but only a hair more so than any other disc speed rating.

What I predict the Torrent to be is the CrankOS. Discraft releasing a CrankOS would crowd the space between the Nuke and NukeOS which is already nicely filled by the Force. DGA needs that gap to be filled in their lineup.

Thanks for bringing this to the board, some will love it. I am not into facebook, nor can I realistically handle much more than a 9/10 speed disc anyway. Good luck to those who apply.

i think dga is pretty underrated. this disc will suit only very few select people though. myself not being one of them sadly

So it will not be the bowling green player pack disc from dga for the main event?

There is no set rules on disc speed so they should just market a fairway driver as a speed 20. It would be the first time that the majority of people buying high speed discs actually get a boost in distance from discing down. They would probably fly off the shelves.
