What Happens After An Ace?

Hey, everybody.

I'm interested in knowing what anybody reading this would do if they ever throw an ace or what they have done whenever they've thrown one.
Would you write the date, time, hole #, location, throw used, weather conditions, and witnesses' names inside the disc you used and then frame it, never to use it again?
Or would you smile, cheer, high-five everyone around you, reclaim the disc and just move on to the next hole?

Those are just two examples from opposite ends of the spectrum, so let me know, folks!

What do you think you would do if you ever throw an ace. Or, if you already have one under your belt, what do you do with your discs after having thrown one?

Had the witness sign one. Added the date and course. Still use it.

My other two were solo. I didn't note anything on either and continued to use them.

Next one, if there is a next one, probably no notes or signatures as I no longer ink any of my discs at all. Keep using it.

I used to record aces... we have a fairly short course so there's plenty.. I used to write them down on my discs but I stopped doing that now that I only rimtag it.. Out of 27 holes out here I'm only missing 7, 13, 14, 24, and 27.. 7 will be next the other 4 are pretty long though I splashed chains on 27 many years ago.

Truthfully, I've inked the bottoms with the course, hole #, and date. It's a sweet little reminder when I look at the bottom of the disc. I keep the discs in the bag, though I am a little careful about throwing them in a high-loss-risk situations, but eventually most of mine have been lost or broken. Except a couple that fell out of favor and so don't get much use anymore.

Not sure if I'll continue that, mainly because Global Warming has caused Earth expansion and all of the holes have grown longer than my drives, so there may not be any nexts.

the first time I totally geeked out. after that it was more like "cool! wish someone else would have been here...". I date the disc, but I KNOW I'll remember where I was when I threw it. then I keep throwing it, like David said, as a cool reminder.I've never NOT thrown an Ace disc, but a few times I'll admit I've been more careful in a risky situation.

Thank you! I've been wondering why I'm getting fewer looks on holes I used to birdie with regularity.

It's not me.
It's the world.

I'll let you know when it happens. when/if it does I'm sure I'll commemorate it in some way. Depends on if I'm solo or not. The beer will flow like wine after the round for sure though

One day I'll explain how the constant bombardment of meteorites has increased the Earth's mass, and thus it's gravitational pull, as can be proven by changes in my vertical leap.

I am in the same boat, enragedmullet. One day there will be an ace. And on that day I will probably celebrate with a bottle or two or four.
And I'm the kind of guy who would want to commemorate the occasion, so I would most likely write the time, date, which hole at which course and who was present all on the disc's underside. I also keep a journal, so you can bet that I will boast furiously about that for a full page.
And I probably would use the disc again, except only where I am sure to not lose it.

I didn't know we had such a genius in our mitts. I am so glad to out why these things are happening. All this time I was thinking I was just old. Now I have scientific proof it's not me . What a relief!!

I'm usually pretty calm about it. I hit 45 in my first 11 years. The next one, though, I'm gonna celebrate. Its been 3 years in May since my last one. I don't write anything about them on my discs, I just go post them on DGScene (before that - it was DGRUS).

I've only thrown one ace. When it happened, I was in disbelief at what I'd seen (it bounced off a tree and into the basket), so I didn't go crazy. Then I high-fived the witnesses, they signed the disc (that's tradition, isn't it?), wrote the course, hole, and date on it, then retired the disc to the wall. Depending on the situation of the next ones, I may or may not retire or keep playing that disc.

If the shot was exactly what I tried to do I get more excited than if it was a shot that went in out of more luck than skill.
I've never signed a disc or retired one because of an ace.

I usually grin sheepishly if my buddies witnessed it, then always put a 1 down in my scorecard, then sharpie the date, hole# & ace# in the rim, and keep bagging that disc. I know how it's likely to fly for me the next time. :p

...yep, my multi-ace discs have substitutes when near water or really thick stuff.

What about money? In random groups I've played with, there's been a money element. Granted this has only happened twice so pretty anecdotal. Both times when someone hit the basket (not an ace) the others in the group insisted on giving the thrower $1. It was mentioned that an ace would be $5. (FYI, I steadfastly refused and don't want/expect money from anyone else, especially randoms ). Both times this happened it was at Morley Field. Maybe it's a regional/local thing?

Specific to the OPs question: have the group sign the disc, and write the date, location, hole, and ace number on the disc and retire it.

For my first ace I signed and dated the disc, then retired it. It is still in a box somewhere... I had a couple of short aces after that where I simply hugged my wife and played on. I did have a league-play ace where all of the guys on the card signed the disc and we whooped it up a little. I think that disc is still lying around somewhere but I don't throw it anymore. I haven't aced in a long time, so I don't know what I'll do.

I remember seeing something like this on the site a few years ago:

What is the hardest thing about getting your first ace? Working it into every single conversation for the next week.

You know you want to!!

I want to get one so I can contribute to this conversation! I've had many close calls and "How did that not stay in?" shots. The most painful of those was one that hit the center pole cleanly and bounced back out as if there weren't any chains - my two boys would have been witnesses. I got into DG as something to do with them, although they never caught the bug
