[Discmania] Discmania Thread (Part II)

I predict the DD1 will be your goldilocks disc. Unfortunately DM will only run them once a year and they'll cost $100+ on the secondary market. 😬

You wouldn't happen to have a Grace to compare it to, would ya?

I don't have a Grace, but hopefully tomorrow playing with a guy who throws them. I think the Paradigm will be the unicorn.

A little bird told me there will be stock run of DD1 in C-line plastic soonish. Stock run will be more stable than mystery box DD1's. Horizon plastic will be in production also.

Good stuff. I'm happy to hear the Paradigm is a bit deeper than the DDX, I'm not a fan of the super shallow rimmed drivers.

Thanks. I really liked the Paradigm on forehands although my forehand is really poor. They have done great work with this one.

How far were you getting them with a forehand?

Now that you've tried the new DD1 and Paradigm, what drivers do you plan on using? I currently throw DD3 + Enigma, and I'm wondering where the new molds might fit.

IMHO, with only one round in (thanks frigid cold wind and overtime at work), the new molds don't fit in. My beat S-line Cloudbreaker and a 167g Enigma do it all. BUt- I'm ticked I haven't been able to throw, so might be an emotional response, haha…

Great question. I have been fighting with this question a lot.

The DD1 was a bust. If I want a disc for that slot I'll rather buy a grace

In my opinion the Enigma and Paradigm fill the same spot in your bag except for two scenarios:

1. You use the paradigm only for forehand's because you love the shallow feel.
2. You bag more than 1 enigma and 1 or more of them are from the really OS enigma run that was a thing a year ago. Those Enigmas where mini PD2's.

So to my choices->
I like to have discs I can easily replace. That's why I'm planing to use the creator series Cloudbreaker as my workhorse driver in different stages of wear.

For the OS side I have a white CB3 and in case it gets lost I'll replace it with a Halo Destroyer.

For the US slot I have some og dd3's to use. Those will probably be replaced with Enigmas or Paradigms. Here is also the struggle-> The paradigm feels better for forehands, but I like the Lux Vapor Enigma more because of the plastic. My guess is that availability will be the determining factor and it will likely mean a win for the paradigm.

Thank you for the insight, you and I have similar setups. I also have a white CB3 in my overstable slot, and a Cloudbreaker as the workhorse. I have a Neo Enigma for more understable shots, and I really want to add a Lux Vapor Enigma to round out my drivers.

I don't feel like I'm missing anything, but I'll probably try the DD1 and Paradigm just for fun. Frisbees :)

Sounds like a familiar predicament. For a good while now I've decided to just throw what I have and what I like throwing, with very little concern to replaceability or sensibility. If I lose a disc, I'll still throw the next best and next most fun disc I have. If I have overlap in my bag, so be it, as long as I enjoy throwing them.

So DD1 vs Grace? Why is the Grace the better disc, and how are they different?

I actually did a review of the DD1 here:

Discmania DD1 versus the Innova Wraith and Latitude 64 Grace
https://youtu.be/mIUDdQZFF7c

I must admit that for some reason the DD1 didn't want to fly well for me. It isn't as bad as I make it seem. Probably something to do with that little flashing on the bottom that seems to make discs more OS when new.

But the reasons:
1. Availability. I can find Graces everywhere in Europe.
2. Plastic, even though the plastic is almost the same, orbit is a touch softer.
3. Glide. I feel the Grace has a touch more glide.

I don't think DD1 is comparable to Grace. DD1 is more like DD3 or Destroyer. You can get the same stable flight with less power. Grace is more understable and turns more. In my opinion Grace is more like controllable distance driver than pure distance driver. I used to have Graces but my friend took them from me so I cannot compare them right now.

I have to agree with Deuzzz about Paradigm. Stability wise a fresh Paradigm sits between stable Enigma and well beaten Enigma. The glide is just crazy. The glide keeps lifting the disc upwards even if you try to throw it really low. Hope the new Neo plastic beats in similar to the old pastic. Otherwise I don't see me finding use for Paradigm.

I am also using similar drivers as Deuzzz. Cloudbreaker is my go to distance driver. CB3/C-line DD3 fills my overstable driver slot. I used to have Enigma as understable driver but it has got too understable for my liking. Maybe well beaten Cloudbreaker replaces it next season.

During this off season I have been throwing new and old C-line FDs but the new FD is just way too stable for my liking. Past two season I have been throwing different plastic and wear of Instincts and Latitude 64 Explorers and I'm going to return to that line up.

With a couple of rounds and a couple of hours in the field, I have better opinions on the mystery box discs. I can throw mids around 275-320' and drivers 360'-400' (old, born in 1974…) these are practical on course -to- everything goes right ranges.

The Tailor: really controllable, very straight to hint of turn and gentle pushing fade. I kinda wish it wasn't this good. I felt guilty throwing it better than the MD3… I think the tailor might be a hint deeper and I get a better grip? Not sure why. Approve

The Glow Magician: My first thought was that if someone loved fairways, hated throwing mids, AND wanted the flight of a midrange, that's the Magician. It feels like a fairway but flies slow like a mildly stable mid. It's fine, if you can tolerate the dome. Forgettable

The glow Majesty: Mine is board flat to slight puddle-topped, and plenty overstable when thrown flat. I will say that when I throw it I always feel like it is a bad throw. Then when I go get it, it's longer than I expected. Pushing hyzers are actually decent. Thrown on anhyzer it's workable. Forgettable

S-Line MD1: Remarkably similar to the Mind Bender. Flip up from slight hyzer and go straight. The only way to work it is the angle of release and height. It turns 'as much' as the Mind Bender, but doesn't fade at all. Love it

Lux Vapor Enigma: It's an Enigma. It flies stability between the 166g and a 174g NEO I have. Of the drivers in the box (plus Paradogms), it was most often longest, but not always. Approve

Horizon DD1: Neither DD1 (blue, purple) would really turn for me *sigh* unless there was a slight headwind. I can't throw fast enough I guess. But it does push straight until the last second when fade kicks in. Anhyzers would pan to flat, but not come back unless I err nose-up. My beat up Cloudbreaker turns quite a bit by comparison… which means these will beat up real nice. Approve

Bonus NEO Paradigm: This is a copy-paste from the DD1, but consistently a little longer on the same line. Have to use them a while and see what happens. Great plastic though. I received two blue and a yellow. The yellow is noticeably flatter, but didn't change flight much at all. I think I prefer NEO it to the Horizon. Approve

The Enigma, DD1 and Paradigm fly similarly.

Any chatter about variance in colors for the new Cloudbreakers? Also, any thoughts how they'll handle that moving forward? The next run will have the same name but a new stamp and no number? Hard time wrapping my head around that.

I saw a blue P1X in the used section with dog bites that didn't puncture all the way through. Thoughts? I know it's technically a legal disc.

Also, can anyone compare a Link with a P1x?

This is from when they first came out.

I was in love with the X-P1xs. Such a lazer straight disc. The Link does have a little fade in some situations.

Ive only ever thrown Exo. Nowadays I alternate between Logics and Links. Both for putting and throwing. I'd love a little more beefy throwing putter. Likely either in premium plastic would work or perhaps a Rainmaker will do. Swirly S-P2s used to be it, but I've done away with all Innova manufactured now.

Thank you! The two molds aren't similar at all in shape.

It's funny you say that, I have a Spirit Fox(old name same disc) that I use as a mid/fairway replacement when I'm traveling with a small bag. The crazy thing is the base plastic is pretty flat and the premium is always super domey. One of those discs where I think the base plastic is just a better thrower. Gains some glide as it beats in as well.

I also have a couple of Yikun Kui that I'm pretty sure is the same mold or very close and they do that also.
