My friends have convinced me that I'm too old to go without a cart (I'm only 40, they suck). That said, they're probably right. I've done a little research, but I always wonder if there are other options I don't know about (like small companies doing amazing things that just don't show well in internet searches), or if people have some specific experiences I should factor in.
Some things to consider:
-I'm not worried about the cost. I want good value for my money, but if the greatest cart ever invented is out there for $1,000...point me to it.
-I'm 6'6", so seat height matters. I'm about 240lbs, which I think is fine for most seats, but something to keep in mind, specifically that I am not skinny and seat width may be a factor for a little comfort?
-I'm moderately handy, but not with metal (I'm fine with wood, I'm handy enough to put together some PVC stuff, etc). If some of my wants/needs can be satisfied with a mod, that's great with me. If I can't find anything I'm set on, I'll probably take an old pressure washer cart I have, build a wooden box on it, and use that (but it's a bit heavy, and the wood is only going to make it heavier...so who knows how that would work out).
Carts I've considered and I THINK I have eliminated (but if you feel strongly, I can maybe be convinced).
Ridge Roller-Looks well built but I think the seat is about 19" which I think is a bit low for me.
Rovic-I have a ball golf cart similar to this that I could tinker with if I wanted to. I THINK ultimately I'm looking for a self-contained cart rather than a backpack carrier...or at least the option to make it a self-contained cart if I want to.
Zuca Compact-Same issue as the Ridge Roller, too short.
Zuca Backpack LG-The height and width of this seat seems like a great fit for me, but I don't think there's a specific bag insert that goes into it to make it a self-contained unit (correct me if I'm wrong). If there were an insert for this like with the regular Backpack cart, this would probably be at the top of the list.
What I'd like:
Something with a seat. I'd like the flexibility to carry a LOT of discs and use it for disc-storage in a way. I've got 10 acres and a big field at the back of the property I can go throw in. I'd like to be able to load up everything and go back there. This isn't a necessity, but certainly helps (even if I have to make a modded rack for something to switch in and out).
Onto the contenders (again, if there's something I should consider not on this list, tell me please)
Zuca All Terrain/Disc Golf Cart-I think these are the same thing just with different accessories? The various disc golf cart sites all have different issues that make really nailing things down somewhat difficult. Pros are the sheer disc storage and lots of accessories to customize it a bit, con is the narrow seat width (has anyone found this to be a problem?)
Zuca Backpack/Trekker-Pro is that I can use it for the backpack cart if I like or the Trekker insert for a self-contained cart. Lots of color options. Con is the lack of additional disc storage (maybe I'd build a PVC rack or something to store my discs and just swap the rack and bag in and out? I think I could get 2 levels of discs in a rack in the cart?) Can also buy just the backpack cart now and see if I want to put the Trekker insert in as I have a workable backpack.
Zuca Transit-Pro is the discs are higher. Wide seat. Con is lifting the seat to access the discs (Does this just get super old? Will the seat stay up when I'm rolling it if I want it to?). I'd also love to know what the insert bag sits on. I can see a side rail in photos, but what is under the bag and is it sturdy enough to not flop around when pulling/pushing?
I'll probably only need 15-20 discs when I'm playing, but again, having something to hold all my discs would be great for field work or league meet-ups where people often trade around.
