I tried the top loaded cage with space at the bottom set up yesterday and I'm not a fan so far. The bag fell off my stool regularly, and the discs popped out a few times. Weather conditions were pretty bad though, so I'll give it another chance, but based on my experience so far, I'll likely go back to the bottom loaded cage.
Although, the lower pocket holds putters better than the top pocket, but I don't think that's enough reason for me to stick with the top loaded. Besides, the set up I normally use is to put 3 or 4 of my most used discs in the top pocket and secure it with an elastic cord. With that set up, I only go into the bag for about 50% of shots. Sometimes much less, depending on the course. Much more secure and functional that way since the entire top of the bag is free for storage.
