I have been playing for 3 years and throw WAY shorter than I used to. For reference I am 6'4 190lbs so I know I should be throwing farther. Take a look at these videos and tell me what I am doing wrong. And please don't say "throw with hyzer" or "hyzer flip everything" because if I could I would. My grip is a regular power grip. I feel like I am dragging my arm through. I don't think the nose angle is the problem. I have a friend that is 5'9 140lbs soak and wet and can throw 100 feet farther than me on a regular basis. Please for the love of all things holy help me. In order the discs are: Star Katana, Opto Riot, Echo Destroyer, Champ Boss.

Two words. Disc down.

And weight and strength have nothing to do with throwing far. Look at Paige Pierce.

Now, I'll let the experts take over from here....

^Don't disc down

With that said you are "swooping" your arm down, you reach high (in the reach back) and swoop low. It looks as if you are leaning far back when you follow through, lean forward.

Remember pull on a straight line, Don't swoop.

Your form seems to be on the right track. Honestly for one thing your discs are to stable. Drop down to say Valk, Archon, Turning Driver (discmania), Roadrunner, Sidewinder, Avenger SS, Leopard, Zombee, Mamba, Maybe Blizzard Bosses if you really like the grip try 145ish to 150, 140 will be pretty flippy you might like it though, Lat River? I dont really throw lat but I hear these are flippy. Try throwing discs that don't take as much power to get the proper flight. World distance record BOTH of them were set with quite understable discs, so don't think you need super stable to throw far.

Let your hips lead and make sure your arm is ending in the direction you want your disc to go, alot of throws go wrong simply by facing the wrong way when you release. Make sure your not standing to straight up, try to kinda lean over your disc and pull through, and put good spin on the disc don't worry about snap. My run up is the about the same speed as yours and distance maybe a little shorter on distance and I can get it out 450-500. It's all form. Also how far is it you used to throw compared to now?

how far are you throwing now?

you are swooping and subsequently you may be rounding as well. I looked at your vid from October and it appears you were rounding in that one. you have to throw from the chest not around the shoulders.

hunt up the masterbeato video (working from the hit backwards). masterbeato is your height and maybe just a few pounds heavier but he is basically the same size as you.

throw out all those ****ty discs and get an eagle or a beast

Opto Riot is a good disc but it can be finicky with different grips. Destros ain't bad either.

but yeah you would do better with an Eagle. Discing down is always good for practice.

Smooth is far.

Start your reach back at the bottom of your rib cage, not your shoulder.

Pull straight through and throw at 80% power.

Most importantly, smooth is far.

Thanks for all of the replies everyone. I used to be able to throw 425-450 on average now 350 is a great drive for me. The video with the Boss I would say it went about 360. That was actually one of my better drives of late. I have tried throwing more understable discs and I have no problem with discing down. For some reason a boss has always felt the most comfortable in my hand.
All that being said, I see the arm swoop thing happening and I have tried to lean over my discs more but when I do that, everything comes out hyzer and stalls out very short, even if it's understable discs. I am still waiting for that "aha" moment to see what has changed from the way I used to throw. Sadly, I don't have any video that far back.

The one really obvious thing I see is that you follow through to the right. I think that you're taking a lot of power off the throw by redirecting the energy in a direction other than forward.

It isn't leaning over your discs as much as leaning forward, always forward toward the target. All energy should be directed toward the target... smoothly.

Just looks like strong-arming and balance issues, which are easy bad habits to acquire when you're trying to out throw your friend. Fix the swooping and rounding and focus more on leading with your hips.

Some tips to help:
Don't reach back as far. It doesn't do anything but throw off your balance. Your body is not on it's center of balance at the hit point, which is why you have to take so many steps forward off the teepad after release. In doing so, you're not finishing your weight transfer before pivoting so you're strong arming the disc around your chest instead of your hips/torsoe leading your arm and whipping your forehand across your chest.

Here's proof: the green line is your front foot pivot point. The red line is where your weight is centered. Ideally the red line should be overtop of that green line. When they are one of the same, your body will pivot on your plant foot and your body will follow through by rotating instead of moving/stepping forward.

This is how it's supposed to look: (Liz Lopez always displays great balance and has the best form of the top women imho. )

What I noticed was that your footwork seems to be small fast studder steps. Try slowing down your steps, and stretch them out. Step smoothly and in balance and your upper body won't be flailing/strongarming to keep up. Watch this video of Shoestrings in slow-mo. Notice how he glides and smoothly with larger steps low to the ground? No studder stepping etc.

Have you ever heard the saying " starting the lawnmower?" You need to get your power from the ground up. You look like your trying to turn a ceiling fan on. Lower your reach back and pull through with your hips.

See how the pull threw is around the belt buckle... Yours is around your shoulders which is a slower motions. Let me know if this helps

Classic...pretty sig worthy.

I definately see some arm issues...like said, the swooping will really slow you down. What you're looking for is more nipple to nipple, across your chest.

Also, please someone correct me if I'm seeing things, but to me it looks as if you're hips are too fast. They should be in line with your right knee and should, and they should all move together, providing the rotation to whip your arm through. It looks like you're opening up with your hips, and dragging your shoulder and your knee, thereby slowing you down and putting you off balance, another reason for the recovery steps after a throw.

The hips are fine because the hips create the speed to pull your arm through.
Also nipple to nipple is better for accuracy if you learn to get your pull tthrough even lower it will generate even more speed= distance

The term I was taught that helped me keep this in mind was "rip the nips..." perhaps crude, but effective - it got me picturing the motion. Paul, your participation is greatly appreciated - thanks for being so gracious with your time.
