I will be in Orlando the second week of April

Lots of time to play, what are the shoulds and should nots of my plan.

Might drive over to Tampa for a day.

Same question.

I have played at Fredrick Park probably 12 yrs ago, same for Barnett in Orlando.

Same time frame for Coachmen and Cliff Stevens.

There are a lot of new courses in the area now. For the Orlando area, I would recommend The two courses at Debary and the DG store across the street

https://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=2597

and Lake Hiawatha which has a couple of cool nine-holers nearby

https://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=8347

Inbetween Orlando and Tampa is the nice new Lakeland course Hidden Oaks

https://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=9678

Which could be paired with the awesome Ed Medard course

https://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=4568

In the Tampa area, I would suggest the really nice new course in Oldsmar

https://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=9104

Which could be paired with the Picnic Island or Cypress Point

Florida is experiencing a new course boom with new courses popping up all over the place. I hope this helps and have a fun trip! Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

In Tampa I definitely agree with Oldsmar, Picnic Island, and Cypress. If you could only do one go with Picnic Island for the water views.

Much appreciated.

Looks like Hosfeld has been busy.

Side story....

I had breakfast with him one morning before Waterloo Worlds. And goofed off with him and Big Daddy Dave Griffin (we actually had an old mutual Frisbee friend) during Dayton Worlds.

He has been very busy. I think he is in the middle of another one that should be quite nice when done.

Hosfeld has been designing the "Lake County Disc Golf Trail" which is a span of 7-8 championship courses with at least 1 course in every major town in the county. To date, Clermont's course @ Lake Hiawatha was the first major one to finish and its gorgeous. Nature Park on 9th Ave in Mt Dora has 2 tees and 2 baskets on 9-holes but can play as 36 is probably the best 9 hole course in Florida right now by far and I'd even choose it over several decent 18-hole courses just because of how beautiful the grounds are kept and how fun the shots are. The challenge and elevation are there as well.

They literally just finished making playable a brand new course in Umatilla / Eustis area at Palmetto Point Park. They expect to have it fully ready and in good shape in time for the Lake County Trailblazer A-tier in late May. I'm looking forward to getting up there and playing that one soon. Just as they have at Lake Hiawatha in Clermont, PPP has multiple tees and 2 baskets on every hole to accommodate any skill level.

Disc Golf Center is the world's largest, and the Debary courses across the street are great. I like them more than Hiawatha.

Personally, I would drive to the New World complex in Jax, host of the DGPT Championship. It has the sand dune course separate from the golf course, but call and find out when they let you play the 4 courses on the golf course. I was there during golf only time, but they let me play anyway, because they're super nice people. The back 9 (red I think) right of the clubhouse is one of the hardest I've ever played. The owner is great. He gave me a tour around the dune course in his truck before I played, and gave me a bag of his homemade beef jerky, which I highly recommend. I didn't get a golf cart and never regretted it, but it might be a fun novelty.

If you go to Tampa, Sun King in Hudson has an amazing used selection, especially if you're into old X time Innova molds. The course on their property is pretty decent for the money, but I'm glad I was playing with someone who knew where they were going, and we were the only ones on the course.

I pretty much echo what has been stated.

For Orlando area I recommend River City Alpha and/or Lake Hiawatha. I've rated both in my top ten for florida out of 109.

For Tampa I'd recommend Picnic and Medard for beauty, Cypress and Oldsmar for challenge, and Taylor for vibe. I've rated all of these courses in my top twenty for Florida.

Looks like I will be in the Orlando area again, probably early February...

Last trip in '19 I played Debary, the 3rd course at Fredrick, Hiawatha and made the day trip to Picnic Island, "squeezed in" Airport before flying home.

Looking at a similar schedule, minus the "squeeze in"

Suggestions, including a day trip to Tampa Area.

TIA

I would go with Palmetto Trails this time. It has become one of the highest-rated FL courses and is a blast to play.

It pairs well with the nearby Nature Park course, one of the nicest "9" hole courses on the planet, and you could quickly also bag the nearby cute neighborhood course, Lincoln Ave if more DG is needed that day.

As for your extended drive, you might not want to even go as far as Tampa. Lakeland has two nice courses now that would make for a fine day golfing and would be an easier drive.

If you still desire some Tampa area golf, Ed Medard is a much more fun round in the winter and could be paired with the wonderfully unique Showmans course or the nearby Limonia course. Tampa and Orlando's areas are seeing a much-needed boom in new courses and other options are certainly available.

Thanks Thrembo...

Tentatively, Sunday...
get into Orlando early afternoon, drive up to Debary for around after a quick stop at DGS
Monday, drive to east of Tampa for Edward Medard and Showmen's
Tuesday, Palmetto Trails and Nature Park
Wednesday, one @ Bill Frederick, or maybe two or drive out to Lake Hiawatha
Thursday, drive to Lakeland for Holloway and Hidden Oaks

Probably is a little aggressive since I have not thrown since probably November.

I usually play back tees (can you say "masochist" ) for most courses (it was Ed who said "most throws wins" wasn't it ?) and challenge. I could always go to short tees, or on Hosfeld's courses play to short baskets...

Noon temperature...

50°

WTF

Florida?

Well at least it's not snowing...

So timed your visit for our week of winter, lol. Of course, the high temps go back up to 80 after you leave. Enjoy your stay!
