With all the cliffs and rough and difficult lies on that course, I would imagine delays are unavoidable, regardless of the sequence of holes. Seems like I saw more prone position putts and scrambles than I have seen in quite some time. The tougher the last hole is, the longer the wait to play it, which does present its own brand of suspense of dealing with nerves, for sure. Perhaps, with relatively fewer players like this event had, the answer would have been more staggered starting times.
Probably doesn't help that they send out the Age protected side if the event out first. Though most of those who played seem like good players according to the ratings, if you get one particularly slow group in the morning, it can/will cause backups for hours to come on some holes.
I think this is one of the main reasons they started a ratings floor for the DGPT events, as well as sending the FPO out after the MPO.
