I'll have to post again once I get my Prodiscus bag in but this DIY set-up has been my bag for almost an entire year now.
Made from a cheap $25 backpack I got at Academy sports (the Magellan Bonner II), outfitted with an L-shaped PVC frame. I made the "grip-style" putter pouch on top by sewing a velcro strap into the rear compartment for the putters to sit on top of and using zip-ties as zipper stops. The front putter pouch can hold 2 putters. If packed completely full, I can fit 22 discs (11 drivers, 5 mids, 6 putters) and still have room for towels and a clipboard in the front putter pouch.
It has held up surprisingly well considering the price and the flimsy material used It took a lot of trial and error to get the frame the right size, and I managed to make a lot of small tears and rips in doing so, but I think it shows that almost any large backpack can be made into a decent disc golf bag with a little time and effort.
