Great start

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 29, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Dg is meant for this track of land. Elevation plays on many of the holes. There are a few water shots. The land is quiet and dedicated to dg. Holes are long and challenging. Hole 3 feels like playing at Morraine.

Cons:

The course is off the beat and path. As of this review, there are only 9 holes and no teepades.

Other Thoughts:

I am looking forward to the completion of this course. It has the chance to be a 4 or higher rating

This Course is Going to be EPIC! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 25, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

I want to preface this review by saying that my rating is partially based on the potential that this course has. At the time of this review, Berlin Lake Dam DGC is not close to a finished product. However, this course will be expanded to 18 holes this fall (layout available on UDisc).

Once this layout is complete and all of the amenities are added, you'd likely be looking at one of the best courses in the area (and maybe even the state).

This review will be updated when the full 18 hole course is ready for play.

--------------

Berlin Lake Dam is currently a difficult 9-hole track that plays through the open fields near Berlin Lake.

With five holes coming in at over 500 feet (including an epic 937 foot par 5), there are plenty of opportunities to unleash long drives through this beautiful property.

The kiosk area already has permanent restrooms and a practice basket, overlooking the impressive dam.

The 9-hole layout will provide a challenge, even for advanced players. The shorter white tees will allow less advanced players to have a good time. Please note that even though there's only nine holes, this is NOT a beginner friendly course.

Cons
I'm going to split this section into two categories; Cons that will be resolved when the course is completely finished, and cons that are pretty much set in stone.

"Temporary Cons"
There is no signage or permanent tees. Tees are currently marked by small pink and orange flags in the ground.

The grass was very long when I played. I'm sure once the course becomes more established, upkeep will improve.

There are no wooded holes right now. The 18-hole layout looks like it'll be a pretty even split between wooded holes and more open holes.

"Permanent Cons"

The course is in the middle of nowhere. I personally like this secluded feeling, but some may complain that there are no gas stations or restaurants nearby.

I expected to put more in this section, but truthfully, I can't come up with anything.

Other Thoughts:

While the course is still in progress, there's no doubt in my mind that it will transform into a community staple sooner rather than later.

If you want to play a polished course at Berlin Lake, wait until the full layout is finished this fall. But by all means, if you are in the area, come check out this new project in Northeast Ohio!

I think you'll have a good time here 2+ years drive by

Pros:

The piece of land that we had to work with to design this course is quite beautiful. The course will be 18 holes when complete, and the other 9 holes will play along the water and through the woods. They will also weave themselves into the current layout to break up the longer holes that are in the grassy fairways.

Cons:

Tee signs have been installed for the long tees.

The tee pads are just grass at the moment with flags, but by spring 2022 we will have concrete tee pads for at least one set of tees and hopefully two sets.

There is still a small patch of rough in the middle and to the left of the fairway on Hole 3 that needs cleared, it doesn't affect the tee from the short tee so much. Should be cleared in a few weeks.

The current Hole 4 is not where the hole will be when the course is complete and will eliminate the walk back down 3's fairway to play it currently. This will be done in the next few months and will play in the wooded area that is currently to the right of 3's fairway to where the pin is at now.

Other Thoughts:

If it's wet, you can use the road for the tee on 5,6,7. Or all the time if you want until the tees are done. That's what I do.

Berlin Lake is an absolutely beautiful place to play disc golf. Right now, the current 9 plays through gorgeous grassy fairways that are constantly maintained and just absolutely beautiful. Eventually there will be holes playing along and over the water when the lake level is high. I hope you have as much fun playing as I have designing it with my friend Sid Olcott.
