A gem in the woods 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 1, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-This high class course is located inside a deciduous forest and has a great layout to offer, with a nice variety in shots and even some change in elevation.
Baskets are placed nicely throughout the forrest.
Good flow!

-The fairways are almost perfectly maintained and many holes offer several routes to take.

-!Course equipment! The tees are probably the best ones ive seen on a public course in germany so far. They allow a good run up and seem to be pretty sturdy.

Teesigns are well built and give all the information needed. The basktets were also in great shape and cought well although i discovered that they tend to spit out at times.
There are two course maps (close to hole#18 and #2)
with flyers (containing information about how to play and a map).

-Even though the course is located inside a public forest, traffic is almost no problem due to the layout.

-Calden DGP also offers a family friendly/beginners 9 hole layout.

-You can rent/buy discs at the Crosslap Shop which is abou 5min away by car.

Cons:

-The baskets catch good but tend to spit a bit.

-In my eyes hole #1 is a bit too wooded.

-Although the fairways are well maintained, there are a lot of small stumps that stick out of the ground and can make you trip.

-Holes #17 and #18 are the only open shots with few obstacles. Both fairways cross a public soccer field. I have never seen anybody playing football there but it might happen.

Other Thoughts:

Calden DGP is definitely one of the best courses in germany i've played so far and highly recommendable to any kind of player.

The local club "Birdie Production" is running several tournaments throughout the year which are really fun and perfectly planned.

Two other courses ("Steinbruch" in Grebenstein and "Martinhagen DGP") are about 20 min away by car.

There is an open air bath and a parking space for RV's right next to the course.

Wish I lived nearby! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 13, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

New teepads are grippy and long.

Signage is great. You can even grab a map at either of the two parking areas.

Holes are generally wooded but not silly, there's always a reasonable line or two. Also, there is quite a bit of variety with length, turn and elevation.

Baskets have slightly modified chains, they are as good catchers as any I've played.

Even though there are dog walkers and joggers around, the course generally keeps play away from them.

The park is nice and clean.

Cons:

If you want long throws, this may not be for you, only three holes over 100m and one requires a bit of shaping in the woods.

No free beer!

Other Thoughts:

Kudos to the good folks who keep the courses in such great shape.

Great course in the woods 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 16, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Every hole has good tee signs. All fairways are cutdown, even next to the fairway are the small trees cut down. Next tee/hole is easy to find. Next to the parking area are tables and a fire place for barbeque and you get there a course map for free. The last two holes are over a soccer field, so there is also room for training longer throwes on an open field. Everything was in good shape, when we played the course.

Cons:

more long holes would be cool
