Pros:
This 18-hole course is located in a wooded area next to the College of the Rockies Campus in Cranbrook.
The only challenge is the trees. The course was placed into a heavily wooded area, and trees were cut to shape the fairways. The ground is pretty bare and the trees are all trimmed up so you are looking only at the trunks as obstacles. This makes the course a bit strange as you can generally see a tight direct line to the basket, but many "fairways" are cut in such a way to encourage a turning or fading drive to the basket. Even if you hit a tree off of the tee the ground is so clear that saving par is often possible.
Most of the holes are in the 200' to 300' range, with only Holes 9 and 10 getting past 400'.
Nice concrete teepads at all holes. Some holes have nicely done simple wooden signs, but many have nothing. Some baskets have hole numbers, but many do not.
There is a short 9-hole front loop available, or you can add in the back nine for a full 18 holes. Having the course map is handy the first time to understand the path to the back nine and direction to a couple of tees.
Large parking area near Hole 1. No other amenities like water or restrooms were seen.
Cons:
In spite of a couple of gullies and a steep hillside, the holes have virtually no elevation change. Throwing across the gully is fine, but the distances are such that it isn't a significant challenge. A basket or tee down in the low area would have been interesting. Likewise a basket closer to a hillside edge to bring it into play.
WIth little elevation change and similar distances on so many holes, there is a repetitious feel to the course.
This is a multi-use park and we had to wait a couple of times on a group of mothers with kids who were either unaware that they were on a DG course, or didn't care. We waited about 5 minutes at Hole 16 as their kids were playing on the large rock that the basket is located near. Most other users walked on through without causing significant delay.
Signage is hit and miss, with some nicely made wooden signs up on trees near the tee for about half of the holes, and nothing for the others.
Other Thoughts:
There were some distance errors on the Course Map and DGCR Scorecard that I have corrected.
