Super Classy 9 Holes Sassy 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 2, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Cypresswood DGC is in a private Country Club area outside the neighborhood. The golf plays long and sparsely wooded- not enough for there to be any rough, but slightly more trees than on a ball golf course i would say. But they are used excellently with very clear fairways, open shots that even if you miss your line you might not hit a tree, and be able to save your par.

The course design was done both very well, but not with the intention of this being a course to introduce people to the sport. The holes average a little long for a 9 holer, but honestly I loved the open trees and air-it-out lengths.

The tees are full concrete, there is a sign with a map on every hole, so top notch on that perspective, the baskets are still regular Mach 3's with the number plates on them though. They were never hard to find or to see from the tee if you used the map, which was quite nice. There are benches on most tees, looks like it was a Eagle Scout project

I was also pleasantly surprised, given how, not crowded, but all the holes are in the same field area, I was surprised how easy navigation was. It was usually pretty clear where to go, and I never needed to use the map. A rarity for me.

A highlight was the elevated basket on hole 6. Just made that hole a little more interesting and set it apart.

Cons:

I wish the baskets were just a little nicer to put the real polish on this course. They obviously put a lot of thought and effort into it, so baskets that on a lesser course would seem very fitting, just seem lacking on an otherwise decked out course.

The grass seems like it can get a little tall, but I have no idea how often or how short they mow, so maybe I just played towards the end of a mowing cycle. It didn't bother me that much though, just make sure you track your disc well.

While sufficiently challenging and various, I never had that "wow" feeling that for me gets a course up to a 3.5. Something that makes me go "ok this is pretty incredible." The course was beautiful, it's well designed, and definitely one oft the better 9 hole courses I've played, but I didn't find anything that gave it that shift into the next gear from being a Good course, to a Very Good course.

Other Thoughts:

Despite the length, this round goes by quickly. I'd love to play this course twice through instead of some of the 18 hole courses in town. I consider a 3 on a 9 hole course pretty high, so hopefully your experience is as enjoyable as mine was. Definitely make sure you bring a decent sized arm to play though, otherwise those birdies are going to be few and far between!
