Rough, but with great potential 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 4, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is getting this high of a rating because it has serious potential to be a great course. It's not there now, but it's possible.
--- Some disclaimers: the designer/town has signs up saying the course layout is not done, but that they hope to complete it in 2019. Playing it 2/3's through 2020, I expected all baskets to be there, but they're not. Also, I played this a day after day long rain, so that changed my experience.

PROS:
-Two really great disc golf holes. Holes 1 & 15 are dynamite. They are fair, pro level holes that an average player could park if they throw it right.
-Chainstar baskets in good condition.
-Some clear thought was put into this course. Some holes are really rough, but when this is done, it will provide serious challenge.
-I mean, disc golf is still disc golf, right?

Cons:

-Holes 5 & 6 do not have baskets, but they do have tee signs. I found this incredibly deceiving. I spent 25 minutes trying to find my disc on hole 5. I didn't play 6 or 7, although I found 7.
- Holes 5 - 9 get extremely water logged. I played after a day of rain (which arguably is my own fault) but those holes had water above my ankles.
-Distances on the tee signs seem off on some holes. Hole 10's sign says 165 feet, and honestly I think it's more than 300. It's not even close.
-Hole 4 is a blind spike hyzer that's fairway is a walking path for other people in the park. I had to wait for a group to leave the woods and another to get past the hole before I could throw.
-Hole 16 doesn't have a tee sign. It's also seems to be an unnecessarily dangerous hole for loosing a disc.
-Hole 17 seems to have a tree down in its fairway, covering up what I believe is the main gap.
-No tee pads.
-You NEED a map. There's no guidance from hole to hole if you don't have one.

Other Thoughts:

I hope the course designer finishes this park. There are some great holes.

When you drive into the park, skip the first parking lot and keep heading north to the back parking lot. The tee area for hole one is on the right.

HOLE BREAKDOWN:
-1 is a phenomenal disc golf hole. It's a tunnel shot created by tree branches making a low ceiling. You probably have
a 30 foot gap to hit there. There's a 3-5 foot tall stump and a small tree far down in the middle of the fairway, which could potentially smack down good drives. They're within 100 feet of the basket. There's also a wide right hand back hand (RHBH) hyzer line if you want to try it, but it's really wide. My guess is you need 400 feet of power to get to the basket doing that. There's no wide anhyzer. A tree just off the tee cuts that off.
-2 is around 20-50 feet from the playground, which could be tough if kids are around. The hole shapes up for a RHBH turnover of a 300 foot forehand. The few trees are a mando. Throw to the left of them.
-3 is a dead straight, open field shot. If you go into the rough on the right, it's very thick.
-4 is a blind, spike hyzer that plays over a walking path. The basket is under a tree, so you need to throw an overstable disc that pushes foreward and does't just fade. I parked it with a 2018 Nate Sexton Firebird.
-5 There's a tee sign but no basket
-6 There's a tee sign but no basket
-7 could be a great shot, but it needs work. It runs a long a creek, which is all left of the tee pad. The basket is around 300 down the fairway. There's a lot of stuff in the way. The only logical throw I saw was to throw out over the water and fade back in right.
-8 is a woods shot. You want to throw something fading left, but pushing forward. This is probably around 300 feet.
-9 is another potentially really great hole, but water kills it. It's a tunnel the whole way with maybe 30 feet of space. If you fall off the fairway at all though, on either side, your disc could be underwater. Both were deep or flooded when I played.
-For 10, keep going straight from 9's basket over a bridge. Go straight from there until you see a tee sign on your left. It'is a straight shot with a strong right fade at the end. You throw over a creek here, and need to fade right late. There are several small guardian trees in front of the basket, meaning you could get lucky or kick back into the creek.
-11 is a tight woodsy hole. Not much more to it than that. Hit the one gap in front of you. It fades slightly left.
-12 is another woodsy hole with a larger fairway. This basket is right of the tee. From the tee, it looks like you need to throw most of the way straight and fade late. Once you walk up the fairway though, you see more gaps to the basket. A lot of right fading shots could work here.
-13 is a long walk from 12. Take the obvious path you see near the creek. This shot fades right from the tee, but it fades hard. The right shot, I think, is a very overstable driver that you can try to skip right. This probably won't park the hole, but you could get inside Circle 1 for a putt. I tried a RHBH turnover off the tee, but there are a lot of branches that limit the height you can get on the disc.
-14 needs work. It's kind of a longer version of 12, but there are too many trees at the end of the fairway. A good shot will likely get bashed down within the last 60 - 70 feet. You'll need to be lucky, not skilled, to get this one.
-15 could be in USDGC in my opinion. The creek runs along the left side of the fairway. You throw out of a tunnel for 30-50 feet. This takes out a wide right hyzer shot. You could take a left hyzer that fades right, but you'll be throwing over the creek. There's a bush halfway down the fairway that you have to throw around or over. The slight tunnel and bush height really force a great shot. The basket is mostly stright, maybe slightly left of the tee. The green is wider than most of the fairway, so it opens the landing zone for players that want to go for it. If you'd rather play safe, throw a straight shot that fades right 150 - 200 feet. You'll have an easy upshot from there.
-16 does not have a tee sign. Based on the map, you have about 200 feet to an opening into the woods. The opening is right next to the creek. Meaning, you need to throw 200 ish feet to a 30 foot gap. Go too far right, you have no upshot up the tunnel to the basket. Go too far left, you're in the creek.
-17 looks to me like a tree has covered up the main gap. There's a walking path left of the tee sign. You can throw a disc 50 feet out through there, but then you leave yourself a 200 foot upshot. There is a visible tomahawk/thumber line. I took that pretty easily, and I left myself a 100 foot upshot.
-18 is mostly over a pond, looks like 200 - 250 off the tee. You can't miss seeing the basket. It plays back towards hole 1's tee.
