A Course with a Potential 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 25, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course definitely has some potential. A lot of unique holes that really makes this course different than some. I really like how Kelly and his students made this course from the bottom up. Given the kind of equipment they are limited to I'd say this course is well off.

Cons:

Well obviously this course is pretty rough it is hard to make it look good if all you are using are loppers and saws to clear the place. Some holes could use some clear with trees as well like #9, maybe #11, and #12.

Other Thoughts:

Like I said some of these holes are very unique and i would like review each one. #1 blue has a cool oak branch that sweeps over the fairway and the mando that limits you to the right makes the hole a "shoot the gauntlet" type hole. #1 white is basically another look at the gauntlet. #2 blue is a shot over a little swamp, and a high hyzer will do. #2 white however makes you shoot through a double mando which can prove quite a challenge. At first glance #3 looks like a "just throw and rip" shot but when you approach the basket the basket is guarded by trees. #3 white is a total new look that is next to a creek so be careful there. #4 blue is a cool hole with a shot over the menacing swamp. And #4 white doesn't disappoint with a nice shot through the woods. #5 blue is a hard shot with a creek going down with the fairway and it proves quite a challenge with the basket being on a mound. #5 white is basically on the other side of the creek with a different look at the hole. #6 blue and white is a weird little hole that goes straight then hooks to the left really quick. #7 blue is basically a cool straight shot with a fade to the right. #7 white has the signature "stump" of the hole and can ruin your shot if your not careful. #8 blue is the peninsula hole that can be very wet if you go on either side of the fairway. #8 white is another look at the hole that makes you through over a mound. #9 blue is a hard hole that goes straight out of the woods then to the left quite a bit. #9 white however is an easy hyzer out of the woods. #10 blue is a straightish shot that goes over "shot pouch creek". #10 white is pretty much the same with not as many trees in the way. #11 blue may look pretty choatic at first glance but get on the teepad and you can see a flick shot to the basket. #11 white has a hyzer route you can take to the basket. #12 blue is a long par 4 straight shot down to a gap then down to the right. #12 white you can probably do a flick shot around the gap. #13 blue is a short but tight shot that makes you shoot through 2 trees, very technical. #13 white is made easier because is is moved up a little. #14 blue is a long sort of open hole with a mando that makes you throw to the left, quite a bit of trees. #14 white is another look at the basket with a few challenges of its own. #15 is an island hole where you have to shoot over a creek to an island made of railroad ties. If you miss you go to the drop zone for a pretty high to low shot to the basket. #16 blue is a shot where you have to shoot out of ta gap to where it opens up a little then shoot into another gap to get the the basket. #16 white tee take out the first gap for you. #17 blue is a nice rip shot to the basket, however there are a few trees. #17 white is where you shoot out of some trees into the fairway of #17 blue. #18 blue is a hyzer into a cave of trees where the basket is. #18 white is a straighter shot than blue. #19 blue is the bonus hole, which is also another sort of island hole, where you through down the path over the fence the marks the sort of island of the hole. #19 white is a cool shot though the woods to the basket. Well I really look forward to the future of the course and I hope you can come and play it sometime.

Needs worked in, but great start!! 2+ years drive by

Pros:

A good solid mix of shots and open/ wooded terrain. #4, 5, 8, 13, and 15 stand out as very fun to me. The white tees, for the most part, offer a different line/look to the basket. Navigation is logical and flowing with great use of the creek. Red tees are also available. Hole 14 has a great basket location on the edge of the ravine.

Cons:

This is a new course so there is still some work to be done with clearing around baskets and clearing some limbs and vines here and there. Some tee boxes are uneven or have roots sticking up. Venture off the fairway on some holes and you will have a hard time searching through some briers. Once this is cleared up and stomped down it will be fine. Holes 1-3 are sometimes blocked by cars parking in the way. The barriers to keep cars out have not been put up yet.

Other Thoughts:

Bathrooms are available at Holes 1 and 14 along with water fountains. I see this course with great potential once teepads are put in and some work on clearing off the fairway gets done. Names are given to each hole with some fun names. The two creeks are not very deep and are clear. Teepads, benches, and better bridges and signs are in the works for the future. Once all the amenities get in this could be a solid 4 rating.
