Oh how far this course has come! 2+ years

Pros:

The newly improved Angry Beaver course in in the best shape it has ever been in! New course director Brad Ramsey and CDGC volunteers have worked tirelessly to give this once considered "least favorite course in town" by some, a major facelift.

This course is TOUGH. Being arguably the hardest course in Charlotte, the new and improved Angry Beaver features a great mix of par 3s,4s, and 5s to challenge even the best professionals. Virtually all of the changes to the course have made it tougher and there really isn't an "easy stretch" on this track. This is "put your nose to the grindstone" kind of golf and strong focus and control is required for 18 holes.

Course flow is very good right now and with the new improvements you don't have to cross the street which is a nice safety improvement.

Some holes have multiple tees and a few have multiple baskets for some different skill and layout options. The Gold layout should only be played if you want to leave feeling like you got beat like a rented Mule. I don't care what your rating is and I don't care how far you think you can throw...this course is a game humbler!

I love the variety and risk reward on this course. You can play safe and take pars or you can dare to play aggressive and go for birdies. The scoring separation is so high on this course however its a hard enough course that everyone seems to have a struggle or two at the very least resulting in similar scores. Players with a large arsenal of shots will strongly increase their chances. Those with good scrambling abilities will also have a leg up on the competition.

Cons:

As of November 2020, the biggest con on the course is natural tee pads for the newly added tee areas. This will be fixed soon with plans to pour concrete pads.

Signage could certainly be better and more detailed but all of the distances are accurate. I believe I heard that new signage is in the masterplan.

Some of the OB lines need to be finished and not stop in random places. This is currently being addressed and updated to the current layout.

If you don't like hard courses, the Angry Beaver may not be for you. HOWEVER, there is an easy short course approximately 150 feet across the parking lot so this park really offers both sides of the coin in regards to skill.

One critique I have heard and agree with in some respects in that there are too many trees in the middle of the fairway which creates a fair bit of poke and hope golf. This is a fair point and this is definitely a course where almost perfect drives can get an unfair kick and result in multiple lost strokes. I could see a few trees being removed on holes 8,11,12,13,14,and 15.

Other Thoughts:

I cannot thank Brad Ramsey enough for his hard work, design skills, planning, and execution of bringing this course back from the ashes.

I can honestly say that this course has gone from being my least favorite in town to one of my favorites in town.

Holes 4,8, and 18 are some of the hardest par 4's in town. New long pads still being designed on some holes but rest assured every change has been carefully thought out and in my opinion are great additions.

I would encourage those of you who have already rated/reviewed this course in the past to revisit your rating/review under the new layout and see if it doesn't improve. I am certainly changing my rating!
