Pros:
I don't need to write a review because previous reviewer, Sunday Mike, stated everything I was going to say and he probably stated it all more eloquently than I would would have.
But to confirm what he already wrote. The Freestone Recreation Center is a lovely facility with a friendly staff. They have loaner discs and maps available. You don't need maps once you locate the first tee. There is a course rules sign at the beginning. The tee signs are nice colored, metal ones with hole #, par, map, next tee and distance. The concrete tee pads are just right. The baskets are very pretty, orange, DGA Mach V's with the red # on top. There is also a next tee marker on the ground pointing to the next tee. They're really not necessary on this course. As Sunday Mike stated, holes 1-7 are fairly short, open, boring ACE runs played over dirt. No thrill here.
But I liked 8 and 9, too. Although short, they were both interesting and fun. # 8 is a 215' hyser where you to have to throw around some tree branches. What's fun about this hole is 1) the basket is just barely visible from the tee and 2) the area around the basket slopes off kinda quickly.
# 9 is another short (212') hole off the pad but you have to thread your shot between two trees to a pretty little natural green area. It's definitely not a difficult throw but it's a fun little ACE run.
And now, one charming little detail that Sunday Mike failed to mention! As you finish # 9, you're greeted by a sign Thanking you for playing and reminding you to return your loaner discs to the rec center. Now when have you seen a sign thanking you for playing their free course?
Cons:
Playing on dirt.
First seven holes are basically just wide, open straight ACE runs.
Only # 4 at 334' stretches more than 261'.
Other Thoughts:
Great signs and baskets, nice pads and the last two holes saved this course for me. This course could benefit from a couple of nice man made obstacles installed on a couple of the open holes. Not some junky looking crap recycled from somewhere but something decent looking. Like maybe, burying 3-4 poles of various lengths in front of one of those baskets. Something to add to the challenge and change things up a bit!
