Pros:
Goose Island is fairly average course located in a pretty park with some nice views along the Mississippi river. No holes play directly along the river but the winds coming off of it can add a bit of challenge. Moderately wooded but more your traditional park style course. Completely flat throughout.
The baskets are Nice Blue Prodigy T-1's. These were all in great shape and caught well. The blue baskets stood out pretty good, not great. One basket and pin placement per hole.
The flow of the course is pretty easy to follow for the most part. Not really any lenghty walks between holes. It's not the obvious of transitions though. A map is recommended, but not vital. The course plays in a generally counterclockwise manner. Generally being the key word. It starts and ends right by the little parking lot that I assume was put in for the course itself.
There's some interesting hole shapes out here. Nothing mind blowing or anything, but not all dead straight or RHBH hyzers either. The design is pretty solid for the space available.
Cons:
Natural tee pads. These are already starting to get rutted out in places. Not a promising sign, especially, and probably partially due to the course sitting in a flood prone area. These were not ideal. The front two corners were marked with little orange flags on some. Many were missing. About half I'd say.
No tee signs so some of the holes required a walk up the fairway to get eyes on the pin.
As I mentioned already, this course is prone to flooding being so close to the river. Mississippi river flooding too. Like the whole course is underwater, hurricane Katrina level flooding. I originally intended to play this in mid May but that was the situation then. Don't plan on playing here in the spring. It's possible, but also just as likely to be underwater.
Lots of places that will retain water even when the rest of the course is seemingly perfectly dry. This lends to lots of opportunity for lost discs. There's some long grass on numerous holes that will gobble up discs without concern for your feelings.
Numerous roads come into play. While probably not usually too busy, they're busy enough to become annoying. People park all over in random spots too which may cause you to have to skip a hole or two.
Other Thoughts:
Decent addition to the area for sure. Not a destination course by any means. It is worth a visit in my opinion. It's like a poor man's Pettibone.
If they added some tee pads of some kind and some tee signs or signage in general I'd probably bump it up to a 3. I doubt there will ever be concrete tees here due to the location. Some signs would go a long way though. Decent course.
